A postcard with a special $5 per ticket offer for the Dec. 22 Temple game.  I'd like someone in the athletic department to explain how this continues to happen.  I seriously question why I donate money to this department.

I'm sure they just sounded the department-wide 4 alarm fire signal to get someone in the office tonight to reply to you.

It probably went out on time from the Athletic Department, got shuffled around locally in the Athens mail stream, got slowed down by that little holiday called Christmas, and then ended up at your rural route mailbox.

Pretty simple explanation really.

Because you have to Drew.  Going forward, for my four seats in the Convo one row behind Love and on the other side of the section, my $100 per seat contribution has to go to the Bobcat Club - UNRESTRICTED - which means I'm helping to fund over $100,000 in club operational expenses to get that post card to you on time, bonuses for coaches to get us in bowls that cost the university money and where the looser can finish the season with less than a .500 record and summer school tuition to keep athletes eligible so they can sleep in hotel rooms the night before a home game.

Why do I continue to give?   Because my seats are too good to give up and the AD knows it.

No spelllllllling lessons though.

But seriously Alan, do think OBC mailed that, or marketing?

* I don't disagree that the timing of this mailing was poor. Mine came late too, but even if it came on-time/early, there's not much excuse for waiting up to the last minute when this game was planned for months. Nevertheless, interesting how something came to you a week later than I, and I assume we're only 100(guessing) miles away... USPS at fault for that differential I'd bet. And if that's the possible I wouldn't be too surprised why it's late in the first place...

The mail has to go through the university system before it even tastes USPS.  That's the kink in the stream and the core of the delay.

Now that is true support, Alan!  Give because you have to and not because you want to help make a difference.  You are true philanthropist.

Regardless of what the Ohio bobcat Club money is actually spent on, it does allow significant opportunities for student-athletes.  Who cares if it is spent on Coaches bonuses!  Spending it there still frees up money from other areas in the budget that allow the department to pay for scholarships, improve facilities and improve the student-athletes experience.  So let them spend it where they want, it still has the same benefit.

Oh, and perhaps you should get in the spirit of giving this holiday season and give because you want to make a difference, not because you have too.  I am just glad there are a lot more people involved with the Ohio Bobcat Club that truly understand what the organization means to Ohio Athletics than individuals like yourself that simply see it as a way for the department to hang you upside down and collect the change that falls out of your pocket.  Thank goodness Bob Walter isn't as crabby, pessimistic and self-serving as you with the "me, me, me and the I HAVE to pay." crap.

VOR, let me make myself perfectly clear, in the past I have given because I wanted to and designated those funds to where I wanted to.  However, the policy has now changed and only funds that go to the general bobcat club account count toward seat contribution requirements.  That I have a problem with.  One reason that people give to a specific cause is that they believe in that cause.  Take the Walters gift for example.  Another reason is that they feel that they have some control over how the money they give is spent if they designate where it goes.  I don't like the idea of throwing it into a pot so that it can be spent on things that I don't agree with.  I'm about to write another check to Muskingum for a specific scholarship fund because I believe in what that fund will support.  I support OU athletics too. I just don't necessarily agree with how a significant portion of the funds are being spent.

Bobcat Love's typical dumb ass reply aside, do we not know that there are delays built into the OU postal system?  That being the case, why do we not plan around them?  I received my MAC championship flier two weeks after the game.  Pretty sure we also knew Christmas was coming and that mail volume would require an earlier distribution.

As for you, Aaron (Bobcal Love), Bobcat Squared was kind enough to point you out during the Temple game. You're one of those rare individuals whose looks match their online personality. That's not a compliment. Happy new year.

I think this thread has legitimacy to it.  I gave the department a free pass on some of the things that required quick turnaround (bowl bid, MAC Championship football and basketball info) and let it go.  I did get a mailer from the Convo about 4 weeks ago concerning the Temple game.  The postcard was a last-minute follow-up that arrived a week late.  I'm not sure how that happens, but it is inefficient.  It seems folks are extra sensitive (with good reason) to fiscal waste and these mailings have been complete waste.

Instead of speculating about the reason, i will simply ask Schaus if they even know this is happening.  They may not even know it is an issue.

Now, back to the name calling and finger pointing.  I think I'll change my Rohr Room passes to bobcat695 so everyone can match a tool to the "anonymous" handle.

I agree it's embarassing and shouldn't happen.  Just mail the freaking things earlier, this is not rocket science.

Just a little off topic but the required OBC donation reminded me of how outrageous some other programs are. Did you know that in order to get the opportunity to purchase lower bowl seasons tickets for the men's basketball program at the University of North Carolina, you must donate at least $100,000 within a 5 year period. I'm aware of relativity and all, but that just sounds like abuse of people that love their university.

On topic:

"If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?" - John Wooden

I don't care if the university is running a lemonade stand, if it has Ohio on it I want them to put forth their best effort. This mailing fiasco is just another hack job by someone who doesn't care enough to put in the amount of effort to do it right. I might not know  enough about coaching to challenge for the offensive coordinator spot, but I do know without ever stepping foot in the mailing office that I could send who ever is responsible for this home with their tail between their legs in embarrassment.

Coming from the guy who looks like Martin Van Buren's ill, elderly cousin, I'll take that one in stride.

Come find me at the next game you're at and we can talk in private about any matters you wish.

Ever notice how the fewer wins we have in foot and basket, the better the threads on BobAttack get?!

That mail probably followed our football offense:  slowly get to the line of scrimmage, spend a lot of time looking around in indecision, maybe get a delay of game call, maybe run a miscellaneous play with no deception which fools no one and lose big to kents and Troy.

I'd love to participate in this debate, but I've not yet received any Temple-centric mail in these rural reaches of Southern Delaware County.

At some point, somebody needs to realize that these mailers are a no win proposition. Nobody has even mentioned that they're printed with a paper and ink that are easily separated by small amounts of water. So that rainy day resulted in not only an unreadable mailing, but also ruined pieces of mail next to it.

There's a lot we can all disagree about regarding OBC, budgets and the like. We can all agree that these mailings are a heap of fail... and that these personal insults are simply unfair to President Van Buren.

I think George Constanza and the Van Buren Boys street gang might have to pay a visit to Bobcat Love. Displaying the gang's hand sign is Love's only salvation.

Maybe by a couple, but overall...no you didnt.  I think the majority agreed the MACC was an embarassment that should not have happenned.  To me, this is worse because this game has been set on the schedule for months.

Didn’t realize how badly you were treated.

You must be in therapy now.  I am especially taken aback by this zinger defending the other side of the argument by Mr. M:

“The mailing was a mistake, but even the most frugal and fiscally conscious organizations make mistakes from time to time.”

Just brutal
