This is something that's been bouncing in my head for a while.  Does anyone else think it's odd that parents of players send their kids to college with the expectation that coaches assume a father figure role, while parents of non-athlete students send their kids to college with no similar arrangement?  Can you imagine professors making recruiting visits and telling parents they'll take care of the kids?

I'm not making any sort of point there.  Just a random thought.

Well, coaches everywhere are likely telling the parents that they'll take care of the kids.  No?

I second that because with the Coach making a bunch of inroads in our state I would hate for new folks here who  have grown up in basketball to think that this is the norm for the Ohio view of the game. My guess is if they come here for a look it will undo any recruiting advantage Coach may have.

And with these sentences you just lost all credibility.

"Mommy, I'm not going to play basketball at Ohio because Bobcat695 and Gman the Cat Fan are mean on the message board"

Gimme a break. We've heard this argument so many times, and so many times it has become stale and inaccurate. Kids aren't choosing schools based on message board fodder, and if they are - it's probably not a kid or family you want around.

The people that start associating a message board with recruiting tumult are people where I click "Mark as Read" ASAP....and they join Slavin and OCF in that category of purgatory.

LMAO!  Gman is as nice as they come, but I can understand why my name comes to mind when controversy swirls.  I'll bet Jay Kinney would have skipped on Ohio if he read my post about the irresponsibility of smoking weed during the season.  I am also glad Melvin Payne did not read my posts on not breaking and entering.  I think our board is as non-controversial as it gets.  In conversations I have had with player's parents, they lurk and agree that this is a tame place to discuss Bobcat sports.  Heck, we even gave a nice ovation to the coach of our most hated rival yesterday out of sheer respect.

On a side note regarding the baseline seats, I kind of liked them if the right group is down there.  I was offered 4 of the seats Sunday, but we were with a group of 11 and I wanted to sit with all our friends, so I passed.  I'll take the OBC guys up on the offer some game.  I think I'll fit right in with the Ozone, too.  There will be loud cheering and good natured ribbing of the officials.  I think we did a good job filling in for the students during December in the same capacity.  Let me get the seats with Love, Mrs. Love, Hooligan and his wife, McBin, McKinney, Steve Ragan, GMan and my two boys.  Throw in Reggie Keely's dad Nick Kellogg's mom and we would do those seats proud.

This is one of my concerns with these seats...  A lot of the rougher comments made in the O Zone are a single person (no one in specific) yelling something...  Those quick bursts aren't heard around the rest of the arena...  If you think some of the things yelled by the O Zone as a whole are bad, try sitting in those seats against Kent Saturday.

Someone is going to sit in those seats at some point and end up creating a big fuss about what was said...  Can't wait for that to dominate anti-athletics bashing for a couple weeks.

Another concern is court storming...  This is a much bigger issue if they decide to stretch those seats completely across the O Zone, which is a big mistake in itself.

That said, I'm not completely against the idea.  I don't know how floor seats on the ends are in comparison to ones along the sidelines, but if there is demand for the end lines I'd say go for both ends.

Another advantage of me sitting there is that, even at 37, I would at least make the Shoot for $750 Contest entertaining if picked by Brian.  100% chance I make the layup, 80%+ to make the FT, 50% to make the three pointer with nobody in my face and I'd have a gambling chance at the half court shot.  I lived in the Convo my freshman year and was well prepared for the Athens Honda Shootout after nightly half court shooting practice.  It is simply muscle memory at this point.  I would also donate the cash back to the OBC if I won anything.

I know Love suggested Vernon Alden should have had those seats, but that is not a good idea.  I considered bowing to the guy when I saw him in the Rohr Room pregame.  He is legendary.  I just don't want to see DeVaughn dive at him for a loose ball.

Then again, there's a few of us old farts that might offend the relatively virgin ears among the student body if ever given an opportunity to sit in those seats.

I won't mention DFC by name, though. That would be irresponsible.

The word out of New Orleans suggest DFC might have earned that reputation honestly.

The most legendary in-game rants from Bobcat history:  Pete Chouteau and DCF are tied for first.

Good call. I think I'll be hearing "Kellogg.... 3... BANG!!!" in my sleep tonight.

And say what you will about our rivalry with Miami, but it's always fun to beat Akron. Just top to bottom, the way they've played offense, the defense on Marshall, Baltic and DJ jumping the passing lanes, obviously Kellogg's offensive performance...

Exactly what you'd want to see in a bounce-back performance from the Cats tonight.

Agreed. The test is in how they can build off of this momentum going forward.

Ahem, Love...If anyone should be bragging, it should be those of us (Me, Dragon, Flomo, Carey, etc) who said something to the effect of more 3 balls for Nick (6 for 9) and Tommy (5 for 8) and less for DJ (1 for 5)...and even higher assist totals from Cooper (15) would result in WINS.

Exactly what I ordered tonight and I'd like to see more of it.  Great win, makes up for the Miami loss.

Just got in, and the first thing I see when I flipped it to the worldwide leader is the score running in the ticker.  TALK ABOUT PUMPED.  I did not see this coming at all.

Love, credit is always due when deserved.  Nice call.

HeHate and Dragon, both are right.  We need to build off this, BUT, considering we haven't won up there in friggin' forever and against the front-runner for the MAC, I will certainly take it.

Last time we won at the JAR was a first round tourney game in 2002-2003 season.  We won by 2 on a tip-in by Brandon Hunter in the final seconds of the game (which capped off a great night by him, Jeff Halbert and Esterkamp.)

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=230692006

We had lost there by 2 in OT about two weeks prior.  Ohio was an 11 seed and Akron was a 6.

Ohio went on to Cleveland where they beat Fiami (3 seed) by 10, then lost to Kent by 3 points in the semi-finals.

Kent lost to the tourney MVP Chris Kaman led Chips in the final.

Heard there might have been some extracurricular activities post-game...  Probably a good thing, needed to toughen up before the real thugs come into town Saturday.

Great job by our boys. We needed that. I do see Dragon's point, though. Saturday is huge for this team. We need to build on this and not continue the trend we've been showing all season.

Miami is our rival... but I think there is a legitimate hatred for Akron from the team and many fans...  Rivals are usually respected... I have no respect for Akron...

Weren't there some extracurricular things after we beat them here in OT during the 08-09 year?  I think they were pissed about Coleman dunking at the buzzer after we'd put it away....

I said it before the game and I'll say it again. Put us in a one game situation with anyone in this conference and I'd love our chances. Now the question is can we keep playing with the proverbial chip on our shoulder and actually defend home court & win games when we're the favorite. If we can do that and defend home court the rest of the way in MAC play then maybe this isn't the lost season a few of us on here think it might be.

I remember those Akron and Miami games from the 02-03 season like they were yesterday. 2 of my favorite Bobcat  games of all-time (you know that didn't result in a MAC Championship or NCAA Tournament win or anything). If only we would have had a bench with those Hunter-Esterkamp teams. Once Sonny Johnson got hurt in that car accident, and Delvar Barrett sprained his ankles, the starters were basically playing 35+ a game.

I remember Hunter absolutely taking over those games.  What a force.

We might have beaten Kent in the semis if that elbow got called.

How we didn't win the MAC or the MACC with the likes of Hunter, Este, Sonny, Jaivon, and Flomo is still beyond me.  Shows you how good the MAC was back then.  If we had those guys today, it would be a cake walk all the way to the NCAA tourney.
