Why only 15 minutes for Clayton today?

Did he get hurt?
Not hitting shots, bad shots, bad passes, not grabbing/securing rebounds. I'm a fan of him but just not effective/producing lately.....
If he was 6’3” he’d be at the end of the bench. It’s unfortunate we don’t have any reliable big men outside of DW3.

I'm also a big fan of AJC, but he seems to be in some kind of funk since his cool winning shot against Belmont turned out not to be the winning shot. Might have nothing to do with his mental state, but it seems that he's not been the same since.

Funny how there are 10 times as many posts after a loss than a win. Also funny how we win this game without any leadership on the floor.

Not specifically addressing this to you OCF but Clayton as a freshman averaged 2 RPG and 3.3 points. This year it's 7 RPG and 8.1 points in 22 minutes a game. Not too shabby.

And I noticed the poster who said Wiz would be working in the Rohr room next year was as quiet as a mouse after Wiz' near doubled-double yesterday.

Great team win yesterday. Got contributions from guys that haven't been contributing lately. Boals made some rotation changes and it seemed to have helped.

Its pretty obvious the offense must go through Wilson until they start to double team. I liked the ball movement when the double teams came.

Still seems like there is a lot of isolation but I guess that's going to tend to happen when our #1 option on offense is on the low post.

16 assists, I think that is a very important number to look at from this game.

Got some positive momentum back, let's take another step forward.

Have you been watching all year? We've seen small improvement but that's not exactly saying much considering he was an instant turnover + foul at the start of the year.

*had to edit to clarify I was speaking about Wiz's improvement.

Well yea, a blowout win is the exact opposite of a blowout loss. Yesterday was night and day across the board in comparison to Wednesday. There’s not much to say when the former is the outcome. This team bounced back well and displayed everything yesterday, that they didn’t against Florida — including leadership on the floor. Here’s to continuation of that moving forward.

Wizniter's improvement is *small*? Yesterday, he was one rebound away from a double-double and I believe was 100 percent in FG percent. That's huge improvement. He is by far, IMHO, the most improved player on the team since the start of the season.

[Russell said that he hadn't missed a shot at about the 12 minute mark of the second half. I don't think he took a shot after that, but I might have missed one. Yes, I'm one of those nerds who has a transistor radio earbud in my ear when I attend games in person.]

Having an ear bud in listening to a ball game does not make you a nerd. Doing so on a transistor radio does though. 🤪😎. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 OCF

Boals is a good coach and the team is trying hard and wants to win. Sometimes a bad whuppin’ like we got vs. Florida is a wake up call and a motivator.

Too much latency if I connect my ear buds to my iPhone. Sometimes old school communication like radio is more efficient! If that makes me a nerd, so be it. (ha-ha) I think I've told the story on here about how my elder daughter's friends had a vote for the most nerdy dad and I won a close competition with a father who did research at the university on slime molds. All the ham radio antennas on our roof, my daughter said, put me over the top to win the coveted Nerdiest Dad Award. I'm actually very proud of that! ;-)

Offense looked really good. They had no answer for DW or Wiz. Those 2 were 13 for 14 and never went to the free throw line once. That's pretty incredible and a bit embarrassing for Stetson. I believe DW & WIz were in and out for each other all game and Boals never had them on the court together. I'd kind of like to see that at least a little bit in certain.

We all seem to agree, AJ Brown is really good. Dangerous outside shot and top tier driving ability. I am not sure we all understand how much of a scorer he could end up being. I think counting only conference games, AJB will end up a top 10 scorer in the conference. Is there anyone in the MAC who could challenge him for MAC freshman of the year? Also he is such a good teammate and leader out there. I'm every bit as excited about him as I was Sears & Preston.

I don't get the negativity on Clayton, I have really liked him the last 5-6 games and his approach. He's getting inside the arc and mixing it up in a way he didn't do at all last year. I am glad he seems to be trending away from the spot up shooter. If he can keep this rebounding up it'll be huge for us. Only 15 minutes was a little strange but every game has it's own unique flow.

We need to do a physics study on the ball flight of Ben Roderick's shots. For 2 years now we consistently see this weird in and out phenomena way too much. Does he have a unique spin to it that requires nothing but net for it to actually go down? It's bizarre.

It looks like Boals is settling on Hunter & Sheldon being a direct 1 for 1 pairing this season that will add up to 40 a game. I like the approach, I just hope Sheldon can handle big spots in tight conference games.

I agree Hadaway may be heading out of the rotation along with Adelodun. I wonder if EJ ends up out as well. Come conference play we may end up as simple as:

DW/Wiz - 40
Hunter/Sheldon - 40
Clayton/Roderick - 40
Brown/Brown/Baker - 80

Would love to get a solid road win at Delaware before a tuneup at home and head to conference play 8-5.

I'll give credit, we have seen improvement on the stat sheet, this is factually true.

I don't have much trust in him to do that again tbh. I'm rooting for the kid. Transferring down from Louisville to the MAC had to be humbling so I'd love to see him contribute on a nightly basis. I'm not exactly sure what that is yet but limit the turnovers and grab some rebounds is really all I'm asking for at this point.

Boals seems to be trying to mold Clayton into the next Ben Vander Plas. Hope it works but I'm skeptical.

I gave him credit - said I was a fan of his. The question was why only 15 minutes PT. If you watched the game he was not "on". He was obviously not happy with himself couple times when went to the bench. I am confident he will bounce back.

Really good post here. I'll take a stab at some of these thoughts. My frustration with Clayton is that there have been too many games in the first half where he has been an absolute no-show from a scoring standpoint. Take a look at our losses and take a look at Clayton's stats in the first half. It can't be pretty.

Boals had to cut the rotation down and Hadaway was the obvious first man out. I knew he was in trouble confidence wise moving forward after his two free throws against the Gators nearly broke the backboard. I love his energy, but he doesn't have to always feel like he's running downhill all the time on the court. His play reminds me sometimes of Jesse Spano's personality in the Saved By The Bell episode..."I'm so excited...I'm so excited." For the younger generation, head to YouTube and find it. Also, we can end any debate here. Kelly Kapowski will always be better than Jesse Spano. However, Spano gets bonus points for the movie Showgirls.

I hope James can stick in the rotation. I know he can help and brings a lot to the table with his strength. If somebody would be cut from the rotation in MAC play, I'm guessing he would be next. Sheldon stays because he's the only one behind Hunter to run point. He looks to be getting more confident so hopefully that continues.

Somebody mentioned this about Whiz and it's true. I don't care if the guy scores another point the rest of the season. His job is to rebound and not turn it over. Do that every night and I'm happy.

Brod...he's been better this year. And yes...0-7 against Stetson...but five of the shots were in and out. I think he's going to come through for a big win or two in MAC play.

I'm really not expecting a Delaware win on Wednesday. Going to be a brutally tough game. However, I like Baker off the bench and tightening up the rotation the rest of the season. Problem is we have a brutal 5 game stretch to start the MAC and 0-5 isn't out of the question.

Continue to grind.

I hope he can get his offensive game going like he has demonstrated he can. But I question his defensive skills. When he defends a player either underneath the basket or when driving to the hoop, they score.

This is an excellent point. I've noticed that too. So many of his misses are almost makes, where the ball spins out of the net. You'd think the coaches could figure out how he could modify his shooting to put a slight different spin on the ball. I know that it's hard for someone to change how they've been shooting for years. Another thought that occurs to me is that I'll bet he makes a much higher percentage in practice, as his teammates are still willing to give him the chance for those open threes.

That's always been true, for all message boards, for all time.

Think about it from a human emotion standpoint. You get fired up to watch your favorite team. They lay an egg. You're pissed. You need an outlet. You vent on the message board with people experiencing the same emotions. You discuss plans/options/reasons/ways to do it better.

Same person watches the team execute well and get a good W. You're happy. Good job team. When you get around to posting, in between celebrating and feeling good about yourself, you will. Nothing to complain about because whatever happened apparently worked.

This is a gross oversimplification but you get my point.

Winning doesn’t cure; poor hand dryers, stale popcorn 🍿, bad pretzels, Fort Knox barricades. We’ve always got a topic to bitch about. 😎
