I started this thread, but I get more confused the more I read it. Okay, so now that Buffalo beat Miami and WMU beat Ball State, someone help with the scenarios, please.

If I understand right, an OU win over Miami and a WMU loss at Central would give us the three seed. That's the only way that could happen, right? And an OU win and WMU win should get us the fourth seed... but not necessarily... right?

What happens to get us the fifth seed?

WMU loss would only hurt us if there is a Ball State win coupled with it.

WMU is the 2 seed right now, would hold it with a win.  Thus, we would take the 3 with a WMU win and one of our own, as we would hold any tiebreakers over Balls, Miami, Akron.

WMU loss + Balls win makes Balls the 2 (divisional record tiebreaker), and WMU would then bump us for the 3 (head-to-head tiebreaker), assuming we beat Miami

I think...

so tonight was a good night for us...apparently.  So Friday.  Understanding a lot of games impact our world.  But, with a win, looks like we would be.....       If we lose, we would most likely be......

If we win, we'd most likely be tied with Miami and Ball State. We'd win the tiebreaker and be 3. But that's assuming Ball State, WMU and Kent State all win as the favorites. No guarantees.

If we lose, we could do no better than 5, and I think that'd be the most likely seed based on tiebreakers. But then again, there are too many scenarios to count.

I don't think the Kent-Akron game is a factor if we win. Even if Akron won, we swept them so we'd get the higher seed.

I think we could get the 4 with a loss, Akron loss, Ball State loss and Buffalo loss (or a Buffalo win and a good coin flip).

All that seems unlikely so just WIN!

It comes down to just one thing... Just win! The rest will take care of itself and then we'll just win, win, win, win, and then win some more

I'm under the impression that if we do this, we'll win the national championship.

My, I sound like The Optimist.

I love March.

Actually, you need four more wins for the national championship.  The first one is Fiami; the next three are the MAC, so the last two get you into the NCAA regional.

Actually, I'd be quite okay with that.

It appears that 9-7 could get Ohio the 4th seed with  Kent, NI and BGSU wins! Perhaps even with the Bugs not winning as I don't know the tie breaker should crAkron, Ball State, Buffalo and Ohio all finish 9-7.

Watching the Miami vs Buffalo game on STO showed that Miami was slow, not battling and really off on their shooting.  Basically their offensive sets in the second half scored nothing in the last 12 minutes with points coming on breakaways.  It will be interesting to see OUr opponents "legs" with only a day and a half rest before the basketball version of the Battle of the Bricks part II.

Kent beat Ohio at home and we returned the favor; I'm predicting the same outcome in Oxford for the Bobcats and the number 3 seed.

Ball State's Kamenecki pulls a post player down to the floor resulting in said post player throwing a punch....

Sound familiar...just watched video on WRTV 6 in Indy.

BSU/WMU brawl ensues tonite

NO worries though....Lick has not levied penalties in obvious situations this year involving flagrants. NO reason to believe that he would suspend anyone based on a blatant punch, worse that the refs have not figured out how Kamanecki keeps getting guys to the floor resulting in pissed off post players getting tired of the cheap shots.

We get the #3 if:
We win and Western wins.
We win, Western loses, and Ball State loses.

We get the #4 if:
We win, Ball State wins, and Western loses.
We lose, Akron loses, and Ball State loses.

To add on to Dragon's post, in addition to potentially finishing 3rd or 4th as he outlined, we could also finish 5th, 6th, or 7th with a loss to Miami.

Specifically, we will finish 5th if we lose to Miami, BSU beats NIU, and Kent beats Akron.

We will finish 6th if we lose to Miami, BSU beats NIU, Akron beats Kent, and BGSU beats Buffalo.

We will finish 7th if we lose to Miami, BSU beats NIU, Akron beats Kent, and Buffalo beats BGSU.

Taking this one step further, I believe these are the scenarios for our potential opponents in the first round/quarter finals of the MAC tournament:

If we finish 7th, we would host NIU on Tuesday, with the possibility of advancing to play either WMU or BSU.  We would face WMU in the QFs unless they lose at CMU and BSU beats NIU, in which case we'd play the Cardinals.

If we finish 6th, we would host EMU on Tuesday, with the possibility of advancing to play Miami or Kent.  We would play Miami in the QFs unless Akron beats Kent and WMU loses to CMU, in which case we'd play Kent.

If we finish 5th, we would host Toledo on Tuesday, with the possibility of advancing to play Miami, BSU, Akron, or WMU.  We would face BSU in the QFs if we lose to Miami, Kent defeats Akron, and WMU defeats CMU.  We would play Akron if we lose to Miami and Akron defeats Kent.  We would face Miami in the QFs if we lose to Miami, BSU defeats NIU, and WMU loses to CMU.  We would face WMU in the QFs if we lose to Miami, WMU loses to CMU, and BSU defeats NIU.

If we finish 4th, we would potentially face Miami, Buffalo, Akron, or Toledo in the QFs.  We would face Miami if we win in Oxford, BSU defeats NIU, WMU loses to CMU, and then Miami defeats Toledo in the first round on Tuesday.  We would face Buffalo if we lose to Miami, BSU loses to NIU, Buffalo beats BGSU, Akron loses to Kent, and then Buffalo defeats Toledo in the first round on Tuesday.  We would face Akron if we lose to Miami, BSU loses to NIU, BGSU beats Buffalo, Akron loses to Kent, and then Akron defeats Toledo in the first round on Tuesday.  We would face Toledo if it upsets whoever the 5 seed is in the first round.

If we finish 3rd, we would potentially face Buffalo, Akron, Ball State, or EMU in the QFs.  We would face Buffalo if we win in Oxford, BSU defeats NIU, Kent defeats Akron, Buffalo beats BGSU, and then Buffalo defeats EMU in the first round on Tuesday.  We would face Akron if we win in Oxford, BSU defeats NIU, Kent defeats Akron, BGSU beats Buffalo, and then Akron defeats EMU in the first round on Tuesday.  We would face BSU if we win in Oxford, NIU defeats BSU, and then BSU defeats EMU in the first round on Tuesday.  We would face EMU if it upsets whoever the 6th seed is in the first round.

I vote for your scenario where we finish 4th with a win Friday in Oxford. Then Oxford Tech squeaks by the Rockets and their fans enthused about knocking off the 12th seed come in droves to Cleveland to be immediately sent home with a butt thumping twice in a week by the mighty Bobcats.
