The two most improved teams in the conference and the fiercest rivalry.  Gonna be fun.

You said a lot in a few words, Dragon. I'm looking forward to it.

Seems like Akron games are always fun and close recently.  We've played 4 overtimes with Akron in the previous two seasons (5 games total).  They're hot and we're hot.  It is senior night.  Huge game.

Negative -- usual 7pm tipoff, per ohiobobcats.com.

My sense is that while Kent is Akron's historical "respected" rival, they actually hate us.

All the Hipsher family craziness, the negative recruiting Akron does against OU, and how they attacked DJ up in Akron this year makes me hate them.

Makes for fun game.

I'm expecting a small turnout overall.  But man, I hope the Ozone will somehow be full and crazy.

Don't forget Bubba. There's a lot behind these games, it seems.

With the student tailgate before the game and with Green Fever going on I would have to expect no less than 8000 people in the convo with a reported attendance around 9000

The biggest question mark on the Zips team - and I have to believe even Zips fans would agree - is Zeke Marshall.  He was described as the most significant recruit in MAC history two years ago but has fallen far short of that mark.  I'm amazed he has not become a more consistent offensive force. He also appears to be a below-average rebounder.
Zips fans still insist he's a future NBA draft choice, and that might be true, but it sure doesn't seem like he's made much progress this year.  Even Dambrot has alluded to being disappointed in his performance, saying recently that "maybe he'll just have to mature at his own pace."

Marshall has improved in just about every way this year, and quite significantly.  His offensive rating this year is 101.  Last year, it was 86.  He's shooting 52% field and 58% at the line.  Last year, those numbers were 47% and 46%.  His block rate was excellent last year and it has held steady.  His rebounding rates have dropped slightly, but his turnover rate has gone down too.  He's one of the better big men in the country at not turning the ball over.

The only area he's really regressed is fouling.  He's drawing slightly more fouls per 40 minutes, but has a bigger increase in fouls committed per 40.

Add in the fact he's not done growing yet and you have a guy that is going to be an absolute force by the time he's done.

Dragon, we could use you up in Zipsnation.  While we are still confident about Zeke's potential and his (slow but marked) progress, I'm afraid many Rubber City fans have pretty much given up on him this season -- and his lack of playing time (and early fouls) shows that with a seven game win streak, coach Dambrot realizes he can win with Zeke sitting the pine for 30+minutes.  And frankly, Hipsher (and his wife and #2 son) are thought of with no more affection in Akron than in Athens.  We haven't had a sideline coach-player frakas since his departure.  Now who is this "Bubba" character you brought up?

The fact that he's not done growing yet is working against him.  He doesn't look smooth or comfortable in the paint.  He commits silly fouls.  He seems to tire easily. And at 7 feet plus, he's averaging fewer rebounds than last year.  8.8 pts. and 22 minutes per game is certainly not what Zips fans were expecting - even when he was a freshman. Shooting 52 percent from the field (layups and dunks primarily, plus a few hook shots) is not particularly impressive for the tallest man in the league by far.

regarding zeke (and I know nothing about his academics in H.S., so let's leave that out of the discussion), i always found it strange that such a highly regarded prospect ended up in Akron.  Maybe all the big time programs that passed on him knew something...or maybe the kid himself knew something...

For my listening pleasure tomorrow night - what match-up is most advantageous for us (looks like DJ takes on a freshman).  What match-up will give us problems -- acknowledging that it is not always man to man.  thanks
