"The guys" have no one to blame for this one but themselves. This game was lost by OHIO, NOT won by Balls! Good teams do not give up 9 point leads with less than three to play. End of story and season.
Have to agree with Casper on this one; with no one in foul trouble and all our 1a guys on the floor for the close of the game and overtime, I wasn't feeling a huge void of coaching competence for the last seven minutes. (as we had seen often through the season)
I re-watched the Kent FB game last week to clear out space on my DVR last week (couldn't stomach it sooner), and last nights game had parallels to that one for me, where it seemed that the team definitely didn't execute when necessary, and that you couldn't pin much responsibility on the staff. (and unlike the Troy game where there was a clear lack of preparation on the staff's part in addition to lapses by the team)
What does parallel to the Troy game though is just how small this team felt on the court, all season, for me anyway. Troy was just flat bigger and faster than Ohio, and when I watched the Kent BB game yesterday I kept thinking to myself (although considering Ohio had beaten them): "How in the hell are we going to compete with those big guys?!"
Sure, Ivo and DW are athletic and strong, but they aren't big, and I don't see that coming anytime soon. When games get to crunch time, it sure doesn't hurt to have a bruiser or two on the boards to secure a victory. I know we want to think of ourselves as this up-tempo, transition team, but often times it feels like we are up-tempo
to our end of the court, not
to the hoop, then we have to work our offense for the shot, and I personally think that is a problem.
I'm a hoops novice, I admit, but a number of things concern me for next year. I just hope the revolving door of non-graduation players ceases. (and at least this year with the departure of Stevie Fresh we didn't have the "chronic" issues that persisted the last two)
