Dissapointing loss - Couldn't close.

I am very optimistic for the future though - inability to close will get stronger with maturity of the team base.

Reminds me of my 13 year old when he is in a Texas Hold 'Em all-in tourney format. He can be the biggest stack on the table and down to the last 3 or 4 - but can never get to the finish. The skill that is lacking - not so much a "skill" as it is experience with the situation and playing "Smart"..........

I think Billy Taylor is a class act and wish him good luck against Kent State.

Did the cameras catch Nick after his shot went up?  Because that was shameful.

No, what happened?

While glaring at Bo, he kicked a chair hard, got up, and followed Bo for a few steps while yelling at him.

The problem with the inexperience excuse is that BSU was arguably even less experienced than we were.  Perry was their only senior, and they were playing a bunch of freshmen and sophomores as well.  Berry, Robinson, Bond, Scaife, Kaminicki, etc.

Didn't see it but based on Dragon's description, that is uncalled for and bush league by Kellogg.  I understand him being upset but he's gotta hold that in no matter what.

I'm guessing Bo was the official?  So, was he fouled or wasn't he?

I wasn't referring to BSU - I was referring to us. My $ says we will own them in 2 years.........

I know, but it's hard to say that inexperience cost us, when the team we lost to was equally (or more) inexperienced themselves.

Happened right in front of me.  No call was correct.

Thanks Dragon...the game went off TW here in Cincy at midnight so it wasn't on the tube...then ESPN froze up on the second free throw!  Yep, what an ending...

Weren't we tonight, unfortunately, about what we were all season?  Teasingly close but not there.

Certainly no the "next level" but we did go from #7 to #5 in the MAC.  I guess we should be happy for the progress!  Outta....

Agreed - but my essential point - our "base" going forward is much stronger.....

Tough one... Was at a bar that lost the game for a bit around the 4 min mark, and when it came back it was 65-62... For some reason, I'm not as upset as I usually would be, but the foul called to give BS a 3 point play was BS... I think we will be better next year.  Normally this is Flomo's philosophy and not mine.  My biggest frustration is DeVaughn and Tommy going out like that but last year was an unbelievable memory they will always carry with them.  We were 18-14 for a reason and tonight proved it.  I'm disappointed though and March Madness is done for me.

I hope so, but we're losing more than BSU is.  There is going to be a ton of talent coming back next year.  Kent, Miami, WMU, BSU, Buffalo all return a lot, arguably more than we do, and all but one of them finished ahead of us this year.  Obviously we're adding to our talent base next year with a couple transfer and new recruits, but we have a ways to go to take over the conference.  We have to improve at the coaching end and the execution end.

+1 there - I think that will improve as well. Getting close to last year it "Has To".........

Pretty sure I will still send in the checks when the tickets/Bobcat Club letters/"bills" come............and drive 3 hrs round trip to every game.............

I like our "base" but I think it is biased thinking to say it it much stronger than Ball St. The Cardionals have a lot more producation from its freshman class than Ohio did last night and possibly for the season.

"The guys" have no one to blame for this one but themselves.  This game was lost by OHIO, NOT won by Balls!  Good teams do not give up 9 point leads with less than three to play.  End of story and season.

Have to agree with Casper on this one; with no one in foul trouble and all our 1a guys on the floor for the close of the game and overtime, I wasn't feeling a huge void of coaching competence for the last seven minutes. (as we had seen often through the season)

I re-watched the Kent FB game last week to clear out space on my DVR last week (couldn't stomach it sooner), and last nights game had parallels to that one for me, where it seemed that the team definitely didn't execute when necessary, and that you couldn't pin much responsibility on the staff. (and unlike the Troy game where there was a clear lack of preparation on the staff's part in addition to lapses by the team)

What does parallel to the Troy game though is just how small this team felt on the court, all season, for me anyway.  Troy was just flat bigger and faster than Ohio, and when I watched the Kent BB game yesterday I kept thinking to myself (although considering Ohio had beaten them): "How in the hell are we going to compete with those big guys?!"

Sure, Ivo and DW are athletic and strong, but they aren't big, and I don't see that coming anytime soon.  When games get to crunch time, it sure doesn't hurt to have a bruiser or two on the boards to secure a victory.  I know we want to think of ourselves as this up-tempo, transition team, but often times it feels like we are up-tempo to our end of the court, not to the hoop, then we have to work our offense for the shot, and I personally think that is a problem.

I'm a hoops novice, I admit, but a number of things concern me for next year.  I just hope the revolving door of non-graduation players ceases. (and at least this year with the departure of Stevie Fresh we didn't have the "chronic" issues that persisted the last two)

One of the worst losses in school history.

A: In the heat of the moment that's what it felt like
B: You truly lack perspective

Those are the only choices. This team merely did what it had all season, choked away a solid lead in the final minutes. It was surely disappointing, but I can't put it up there with the worst losses in school history.

I see the need for a bruiser as separate from our offensive issues.  The need for a big body is more on defense than offense.  Reggie Keely is becoming that guy on defense.  His work on Justin Greene in the Kent game was fantastic, for instance, until he got the quick 3 fouls at which point the game turned around.  In my mind, we need him to continue to develop, and need to add one more bruiser to rotate with him, so that we can body up with Greene and Mavunga next year.

Offensively, if Jon Smith can replace Devaughn's production, Ivo can continue making progress, and Keely can regain some of his confidence, I think we'll have sufficient interior scoring.

Maybe it's because Ivo improved so much from last year, but I was kind of disappointed with Keely this season.  He looked slow at times and disappeared from games.  This off season will be the make or break time for him.  If he puts in the work, he can be very good in this league.
