Sorry, I can't see any school going after Groce. In order to be noticed, a coach at the mid-major level, must display the following: major W-L records, making the NCAA multiple times & winning a few games, and the last is the recruiting ability.
Unfortunatley for Groce he was a victim, sort of, with Bassett, Coleman & Kellogg leaving the program after last years great run. Those 3 players leaving made the chances of Ohio going to the NCAA all but impossible this year. Groce also has not really displayed a great W-L record in any of the 3 years he has been a coach. So far all he has going for him is that he was a Thad Motta deciple, and now that is even waring off.
I totally expect to be criticized for my post. However, before you pile on can you honestly say the Groce has elevated our program? Are you pleased with our W-L record? Are you pleased with our record at home?
GO BOBCATS
For some general, national job, I might be apt to agree with you, but for Dayton I think they'll look long and hard at Groce. He's at OU now. His 3 jobs before that were as an asst at OSU, Xavier, and Butler, which would speak volumes for him knowing and being able to recruit the area for Dayton. I think the fact that he's from the Matta tree will carry weight in the same way... It's a coach who knows the area and has done a good job recruiting elite players from Indiana and Ohio, which probably should be primary focuses for Dayton.
The point you make about Bassett, Coleman, and Kellogg leaving the program could actually be a strength for him in a, "Hey we beat Georgetown and were setup to make another NCAA Tournament run this year, but had some major attrition from the program. We were still competitive, but not quite as elite." sort of way.
So yeah, maybe not the full-out criticism that you expected, but just a disagreement about what might be important to the Dayton AD.
