So this is where we're at?

All are clamoring to see us play Marietta. Several want us to go to Marietta.

Not a good way to start the week. Very unfortunate.

Yes, that''s where we're at.  It's a friggin exhibition game that could gain us some fans. It beats the hell out of playing non-local teams.  I know some will disagree but I think playing in Marietta isn't such a bad idea.  We can definitely use the practice playing road games.  For all the whining about the big boys not being willing to come to Athens it makes no sense that we do exactly the same thing to teams that are deemed lower in profile to us.  It's an exhibition. One in which the general fanbase could give a rat's arse about when it's played in Athens.

There's a vast difference between not getting a power conference team to come to Athens and us not going to a D-III gym.

Yes, we should be more magnanimous.  If we went to Marietta for an exhibition game, it would send a very good signal to some in Southeastern Ohio that we are not the snooty, nose in the air school that they think we are.  Some of you posters have not the slightest clue how we are perceived by a lot of good old boys and girls in them thar hills around here.

Edit: The strange thing is that Marietta College, though it is considered a "safety school" by some who don't make the Ivy league back East in TOS country, and has a more selective admissions policy on the undergraduate level than Ohio, still doesn't have the snotty image that we do with some locals.  Rio Grande, of course, is the "people's school."

Duke is considered a "Yankee enclave" in North Carolina.

A lot of SE Ohio natives consider Ohio University to be an "elitist enclave."  It's too bad.

MC has had some bad teams over the past 25 years, but they are good right now.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Not only that but it sends the message to the fans that we are trying to lure in the outer areas that we won't just ask them to come to us. On occasion we will come to them.   Then throw Rio Grande and/or Shawnee State into the mix.  I think it's worth the effort to promote the SE Ohio goodwill.  Makes more sense than bringing in some team we've never heard of that no one will pay attention to.

It's not like we would be going there for a regular season game.  It's an exhibition that won't draw jack in Athens.

While we are over there we should try to schedule a preseason game @ Wood County Christian School. It would go a long way in solidifying our fan base in SE Ohio. Maybe the team could work the bake sale at halftime too!

You guys cant really be serious. @ Mariettta!! COME ON MAN.

You're right. What was I thinking.  Counting the days until that Walsh game. Oooooooh I can't wait for that baby.  Love seeing the stands packed for those exhibition games.  I haven't been over to the Ozone board lately but I have to believe they are digging to find stuff on the Walsh players to get in their heads.

We could go back to a single exhibition open to the public, if you'd prefer. The goal of the exhibition games is to get the team prepared for the season. Coaches obviously think the way to do that is having them at home. I'll go with that, even if the crowds are underwhelming. It's still a game in The Convo.

We also play road games.  I think this is a step in preparing for those without major expenditure.  Sometimes the status quo is best, sometimes it's not.   I just don't understand what is so bad about a short trip to Marietta or Rio Grande.

On the other hand, that was hardly an advantage last season.

AIn't someone gonna put up a poll on this issue?

Irrespective of anything else, playing CoM is the right thing to do for cultural/SE Ohio fan basis reasons.  It is self-evident.  If you don't get it then, yeah, you don't get it.
