I hear Joe Mitchell quit.

I remember when Caleb Troop would have had this cleared up within 24 hours.  Too bad there's nobody like that around anymore.

Did you hear this from someplace other than this board?

: Is Joe Mitchell still on the OU basketball team? -- Nothing official. Heard the young man was/is homesick.

Quick, someone call Larry Nance Jr.

Looks like we have a scholarship open for him now.

Down to 11 scholarship players.  Not looking too good.

Cool the engines, 69...we haven't received any official word.  Still rumors.  And possibly the whole situation could be in a state of flux.  So, probably good to withhold judgment on this right now.

He'd have to sit out a year.

I was homesick my first couple of days in Athens, then somebody introduced me to Big Red Tomato Pizza.  And my dorm neighbor ordered a case of beer delivered to his room.  Problem solved.

Actually, problem not solved for Joe Mitchell.

Beer is no longer delivered to dorm rooms (I don't think). And Big Red Tomato no longer exists in Athens. I believe it went out of business shortly after SBH left Athens.

Beer is still delivered, it is simply done in a gym bag or under the supervision of a RA who is a normal OU student...

Does anyone still deliver beer with food in Athens? I seem to remember Uptown Sitdown being the last of that breed in the early 90s.

That place was the reason many toilets in Athens lost their innocence...

Yeah, no speculation. It's not like TOS just announced that he's going to miss a couple of games to attend a "funeral" or anything.

So, there's a Wichita radio station and a Wichita State message board saying Joe Mitchell quit OU and is enrolling in Whicita State and I have to wait for what, his roomate to confirm whether he moved back in this weekend?  Ah, the life of a mid-major fan....  This is one serious rumor it seems.  Oh well.

On the up side, I like how this board has calmed down from the O'Shea days.  This place would be going bonkers on all sorts of things if he was still around.

I don't want to start things back up, but this was tweeted at Joe Mitchell. Then Joe Mitchell actually re-tweeted it himself.

U BETTA DO WRK DIS YEAR, IMA B CHECKN U OUT.  for WICHITA

You really don't want to lose what's supposed to be a very good player, but with Kellogg, Johnson, and Offut already at the position, we should be just fine.

An optimistic view would look at this as raising our chances of signing Tamron Manning or Geovonie McKnight, after we sign a big man, of course (Tyler Bergantino, please).

I agree, we are so deep at guard, I'm not really grinding too much about this loss.

What I am grinding about is the continued attrition from this program.

The amount of player turnover during the Groce tenure is staggering. Absolutely staggering.

I agree. The current regime has been very unsteady over the years.

Uh, what did that tweet mean?

Joe Mitchell would have given DJ serious competition for best player on the team.

Depressing.

Love, Bingo we have a winner. Nail meet hammer. Considering it's still early, there's plenty of time for more of the cast to jump ship. As much as I hate to admit it, there seems to be something about Groce that just can't keep them down on the farm so to speak. Is there any chance we can get more SEC like and "overcommit" scholarships KNOWING we are DIFFENENTLY going to have attrition. This annually "short-benching" ourselves is embarrassing.

The attrition has been bad enough to cause the program to lose a scholarship due to low APR. When does the scholarship adjustment kick in?

I agree, but my guess is it is more of the players not being able to handle Groce than it is Groce not being able to handle the players.  In other words, Groce does not accept limited effort and committment.
