Great win ( out shot 38-11 at the line), nice to see a great effort from all ten Bobcats that played tonight!

That's what I came to talk about. That's a HUGE disparity in foul shots.

I was reading their papers today and all I saw was how they were saying they were going to even the score from the CIT and how they thought about it all summer and they hadn't forgotten and blah, blah, blah. Nice win for our guys, even though it got way too tense at the end.

They don't make it hard to root against them, do they?

I'm sorry, but I've heard this before.

Yeah because your average attendance of 3,600 is a lot to talk about.

Red Herring for $400, Alex.

And if there are 7,000 there (which would surprise me), it won't make much of a difference because as good as you are as football fans, you're kinda sucky as basketball fans.

How do you figure?

Well, let's review. Comments are all Marshall fans.

What is it with the crowd ..this team is working on a 6-0 start , going to Cuse next and we have people sitting there looking like they are dead to the world..never fails, do not know what people want , sit on your ass and just expect a win..come on , get real people ,get excited and stay excited.

Quote:expand_more
I'm sure our fans were great, but our fans also need to go for 40 minutes just like the players do. That is what a 6th man does. It doesn't set on its butt for 32 minutes and then start cheering. Every other mid-major in the country worth a hoot has a fanbase that gets crazy the entire game. I purchased tickets for the IONA game in the lower bowl off a gentleman and it will be truly unfair to me and my other half if I am asked to set down because I am cheering too much by standing up when big things are happening.

Quote:expand_more
it took 35 mins of gameplay for them to wake up.

Quote:expand_more
A lot of and too much talk about the fans sitting on their butts.

Crowd????? WAKE HARD!!!! foul on our player and you sit on your hands.

Our average attendance will end up about 5500.  We draw a lot better during the conference season.

Impressive attendance at Henderson tonight.

I've never seen a coach whine more to an official in a game his team got double the foul calls than Tom Herrion did tonight. Every single call, he was moaning. At some point, I'd think an officiating crew would start spitefully calling stuff against Marshall because of his incessant whining.

Anybody know what the Marshall bench was freaking out about when DJ was fouled before the ball was brought in with about 30 seconds to go?  The only thing I could figure was that they were saying it wasn't DJ who was fouled although it clearly was.

The first time we played them last year, it took about 30 seconds of watching his oncourt behavior for me to decide I can't stand him.

There aren't enough rolley eyes in the world for that article.

WSAZ's recap on this morning's news was ridiculous too. Much talk about how close the game was, coming down to the final buzzer, but the Herd just couldn't pull out the win. No talk about how the Herd got beat like a drum up until the final couple minutes of the game.

I'd love to buy Marshall for what they're worth and sell them for what they think they're worth.  I get the feeling their fanbase is the middle child.  They get picked on, disrespected and beat up by WVU (bigger brother) then see Ohio (little brother) as an opportunity to flex their superior athletic muscles at us.  They also assume that we carry these non-conference wins around all season like it's the best thing that's ever happened in Athens.  At least my friends here that are MU grads and season ticket holders don't display that false sense of self about their team.  They recognize they have been margianlly better than us in football since leaving the MAC and marginally worse at basketball.  It is a nice, regional rivalry between two schools that are usually pretty evenly matched.  Enough of the unsubstantiated superiority complex Herd nation.

Chuck Landon's story would make complete sense if he was writing about the Duke or Kansas basketball programs losing to a MAC school.

LOL, all they did yesterday leading up to the game was talk about how they wanted revenge and that they had circled this game on the calendar. Now it's that they weren't taking the game seriously.  How comical.  If we hadn't gone into the prevent this game would have been a double digit win.  And God forbid what the score would have been if the refs had decided to call an over the back once or twice.

Good grief.  Does he really think CUSA is that much better than the MAC?  Wow.

But, I will say that we don't really respect the MAC either, so why should they?  When we lost to very improved teams like Buffalo, Ball State, Kent, Akron and etc. this year we'll think we had a bad year.  Same with football.

My thoughts exactly.  Half this board thinks we should be in the Big Ten or Big East . . .

Iona, Belmont (2), and maybe even Akron are all better than Ohio, not to mention UC, which we've already played. Also have WVU, but thats in January after a few CUSA games.

RPI's are now as follows:

Ohio 16
Iona 54
Belmont 67
West Virgnia 117
Akron 120
UC 266

Two wrongs don't make a right, but this bears repeating like a mantra. Hating and disrespecting the MAC does the Bobcats no favors. Some of the conference-related attitude displayed on the board is pathetic. Marshall indeed has no basis for feeling superior to Ohio in athletics, but some people on this board advocate some embarrassing fantasies about Ohio’s prowess. Yes, we have great programs and deep passion for our university. Yes, we’re among the elite schools in the MAC in the two “big” sports. All that said, the next time someone starts to chatter about “moving up,” I’d love to see a shred of evidence (dominance on the field, financial capability, attendance) that explains why it’s warranted or even possible.

Agreed. For years we have been part of the problem not a victim.  I love the MAC in its current makeup and am happy the current upheaval hasn't torn the league apart.  It's great to see that Toledo, NIU, EMU and Ball State have made good hires and are heading in the right direction. Not only that but the good recruiting classes of the last three years are starting to pay dividends league-wide. I'm a big proponent of fixing what we have, not looking for greener pastures.

Here is another game article from a Marshall site.  It's actually a pretty good article essentially saying there are no excuses this time and that Ohio outplayed the Herd but one line got me.  "There were still many positives to take from an otherwise deflating performance. The Herd showed a resiliency to fight to the finish, despite poor free throw shooting and a myriad of bounces that went Ohio's way."

I must have missed the uneven number of bounces that went our way.

Landon was lazy in researching this article.

He states that Marshall was never embarrassed in basketball while they were in the MAC.  It's true that most of the time they were competitive in the MAC, but they never won a conference tournament title (guess they'll blame that on the refs).  But they WERE embarrassed in a number of games over the years while they were in the league.  (I think every MAC team was embarrassed occasionally).  But for Landon to state that they were never embarrassed?  That statement in itself is embarrassing.

I distinctly remember the Herd being blown out bigtime at Kent, at Ohio, at Miami, etc.
