Observations for the game Wednesday:

*  This is likely the best Herd team in many years.  They are experienced, talented, athletic and big.  They very well could challenge Memphis in CUSA.
*  They hit the jackpot with their two JUCO big man additions:  Dennis Tinnon and Robert Goff.  I would have loved to have seen Ohio get one of those guys.  Tinnon has a great human interest story.  He is married and was working hard to support his wife in a meat packing plant in Green Bay until a former teammate encouraged him to check out a JUCO in Kansas City.  The rest is history.  A good guy and a very good player.  Goff was a JUCO teammate of former Ohio signee Joe Mitchell.  He originally committed to Oklahoma but got a release when there was a coaching change.
*  Goff and Tinnon have been dominant inside players so far for the Herd.  They also have a 7-2 guy, Mbao, who plays 11 mins. a game.
*  Marshall has the advantage in size.  They are killing teams on the boards.  Ohio HAS to find a way to keep them from killing us with offensive rebounds and putbacks.  But we have to do it without getting in foul trouble.  A daunting task.
*  Marshall goes about eight deep, while Ohio goes about 9-10 deep.  This is a slight advantage for Ohio, but perhaps it could become a factor late in the game.
*  Marshall has a very good defensive FG%.  Ohio has had trouble shooting the ball at a good percentage so far.  Of course, it would be great if we could just shoot the ball well in Henderson tomorrow night.  We did shoot it well in the second half vs. the Herd last season in Huntington.
*  Would like to see our PGs work extra hard to get our strong shooters involved.  I would see it as a bad sign if D.J. and Stevie think they have to take it upon themselves and take a lot of shots.
*  OTOH, it would be great to see D.J. and Stevie use their quickness to drive and dish.  Pitts and Johnson are quick, but I think our guys are equally quick.
*  Overall, Ohio needs to get to the line more.  So far, opponents are getting to the line more.
*  Marshall has not been a good three point shooting team so far, though Pitts and Pena have the ability to go off at any time.  If Marshall isn't shooting the three well will Ohio go zone?  Problem is, zones make it tougher to box out and rebound and keeping Marshall off the boards is a priority.
*  Good defense by Ohio might turn over Marshall some.  In fact, I think Ohio has to score off steals if they have any chance to win.  This can't come down to just a half court grind it out affair.
*  Kane continues to be a dynamic player for Marshall.
*  Just have an intuitive feeling that Walt and Ivo could really step it up tomorrow night.  We need them to.  And Nick.

This guy has done his homework, I can't think of anything else to add other than the Cam Henderson center will be packed and LOUD. Going to be a big advantage for The Herd.

Marshall is coming off a big win at Cincy, has a big game at Syracuse after us, and generally thinks they are superior to us because they "graduated" from the MAC. Reminds me of a couple of months ago when their football team had just come off a big win at SoMiss, had a big game with VTech after us, and generally thought they were superior to us because they had graduated from the MAC. We all know how that turned out.

It's deja vu all over again, any chance Groce rolls our black jerseys before the game?

I would say that was likely if we hadn't ended their season last year in Huntington.  I'm thinking they aren't looking past us that much.

Line in the Dispatch is Marshall by 9.  I was thinking it would be more like 5 or 6.

Interesting comments on their board about the attendance tonight. Apparently Wednesdays are a big church night in Huntington and it will keep a good number of fans away.

Does anyone know if there is any other way to watch the game tonight other than joining the HerdZone?  (i.e. free)

Also a big Kiwanis Club meeting night, bingo night, Grammy Nominations concert, etc, etc. Nothing like building this up as BIGGEST GAME EVER and then slowly leaking that oh well it might not have quite as many as a sellout.

Article on game in the Huntington Herald Dispatch:

Marshall is averaging nearly 6,000 in attendance so far this season.

Judging from the football game, I think if you just wave one from the stands the Herd will all fall down.
(There's definitely a nursery rhyme in there somewhere.)

This will be a good measuring stick for us.  The first 3 games were games we expected to win, and Louisville was one few expected to be so close.

Marshall doesn't fall into either category.  Tough road game, a win would really have me looking up on this team.

I agree this will be a tough game for Ohio.  It stinks that this game is on a Wednesday.  The crowd would be much larger from both schools if it was scheduled for a weekend.  If these schools really wanted to sell tickets, they would try to make that happen.

It is also pretty weak of WSAZ to not pick up this game.  In years past, the television stations down there have done a nice job getting MU football and basketball on.  There has to be a market for this game.  I am having regrets about cancelling my trip down to Huntington tonight and wish I could watch the game on an actual television.

Optimist: Love the avatar.

I'm also surprised WSAZ didn't pick this one up.  They've done a couple OU/MU games, and with BOTH home campuses and cities able to pick up the signal, it seems like it would be a no brainer.

Yeah because your average attendance of 3,600 is a lot to talk about.

There will be 7,000 there tonight.

Red Herring for $400, Alex.

And if there are 7,000 there (which would surprise me), it won't make much of a difference because as good as you are as football fans, you're kinda sucky as basketball fans.

Tonight? No, but it's the first game at Henderson I've missed since 2004. And the crowds I've seen there just don't know how to cheer for basketball. I'd explain, but I don't want to give the opposition advice. Maybe after the game.

I'm not usually quick to the defense of the opposition, but they have not had much reason to get excited about hoops for a long time.  I'm not going to get into basketball IQ discussions, because I think OUr fans are equally as bad on the football side.

I personally spoke to the MU ticket office last Wednesday.  Until yesterday, I was going to the game and needed to call them.  They have sold over 4500 season tickets already.  Their students are also still on campus. Maybe the actual vs. announced attendance will be disputed, the announced attendance should be pretty good for a non-conference Wednesday night game.

regarding attendance: based on what i can see on the video feed, I am actually quite impressed by the attendance.  Grant it, school is still in session at Marshall, so the student section is full, but for a Wednesday night game, the paying fans sure did show up.

We are forcing a lot of turnovers i like it. Marshall looks very frustrated.
