The student body as a whole tends to be 'fair weather" fans also. Great teams with good records always draw more to either BBall or FBall.
The way it looks now - it could get nasty down in those black seats - especially the ones up against that stupid table.
Which made me think - how many lost ticket sales at a big game without enough ticket windows equals the price of one of those black seats (because you walk in and see a line of hundreds 5 minutes before gametime, and it's Not Moving)? Or lost concessions, programs, etc. sales because you get ticket after game start and have to rush right to your seat? And considering - they would buy another season ticket seat if the black courtside seat was not offered anyway? I bet we lost the profit potential of at least 2 of those seats tonight alone........
Do you really believe people drove all the way to the Convo for a game and got back in their car and left because the line was long? Also, who goes to an away game at a D1 school without a ticket and expects to not stand in a line? If these fans knew they were coming for days, or weeks in advance, they should have purchased a ticket before tipoff. The black seats have nothing to do with ticket lines since they are season tickets. Was I supposed to bring a tool belt and work on the ticket printing machine that was malfuncitoning so everyone could get a Pepsi before the game?
I just do not understand why there is a perceived problem between those seats and the student section. Do you really believe it "could get nasty down there"? We are all rooting for the same team. That is just not going to happen. I believe games like last night are the ones that there could be problems in the OZone. There were a lot of families (from Marietta) sitting in that section. We were asked to sit down early by a mom in row 2 because she could not see. We explained that we all stand up and cheer until the other team scores. She did not like that at all because it looked like that might last a really long time. I also believe the OZone was asked to be rated "G" last night by an Ohio staffer sometime in the first half. It was discreet and they complied. I was proud of them taking the high road, when they could have turned and been offensive for 40 mintues. Maybe one of them can confirm that.
