I watched the webcast and I was impressed with how the fans looked on TV.  Seemed like very polite people and seemed like they were in to the game.

By some miracle I stumbled into listening to the second half on UNI's 1540 AM while driving in New York City and Connecticut.  How does that happen?

AM radio. On Monday, I listened to UIC's game on 1000 AM out of Chicago.

Phenomenon called Skywaving where an AM signal bounces off the frozen atmosphere back down to earth.  Happens in the summer, thus so many people that used to listen to out of town baseball games back in the pre cable, pre XM days on AM radios.  But it works even better in the winter.

The mojo is palpable.  Bobcat serendipity??  (I hate that word, BTW.)

I think this was a bad matchup for UNI...Ohio ran into one earlier vs. Morgan State but we were able to eek out a win over them.

Whereas Ohio didn't match up well with the thickness and height of Morgan State, and Morgan State exploited that for a good portion of the game....UNI just didn't seem to have the quickness to deal with Ohio's uber quickness.

I'm sure UNI has been and will be far more effective against other types of opponents.

Brings back memories of my roommate and I sitting in our rooms late at night listening to the Red Wings and/or the Caps on WJR or WTOP.  We'd also listen to KDKA and KMOX just to listen to games.  Times have changed a little.

Ham and other radio geeks probably have tons of stories they can relate.  The strangest one I ever read about was during the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor the aviator commander was to radio back to the aircraft carrier flag ship Tiger Tiger Tiger (Tora Tora Tora) which in code meant that the attack was a surprise.  The aircraft carrier, less than 200 miles from Hawaii would then relay the signal to a string of ships and the relay was made of the some 3,800 mile distance.  How many relays there were and how long it would have taken is moot because the original pilot signal from a little radio transmitter in his cockpit actually reached mainland Japan seconds after the signal reached the flagship.  The book said it was some "freak" of airwaves that transmitted the message from a radio that probably had a range of 300 miles on a good day and reached 3,800 at the speed of sound on that day of infamy.
