Dumb mistakes. We look disinterested and wishing we were anywhere but Florida. Wiz with 3 steps back. Baker non-existent. Clayton nothing and Miles cold. Gonna be a long night.
Wiz is gonna be working in the Rohr Room next season.

I've never seen someone out of position on every single play. Every one. He's allergic to getting rebounds. I just watched a guard shove him out of the way for what should've been the easiest rebound all night. 3 dumb fouls for just being out of position and not knowing how to set a screen.
Then I guess next season we play with no one in the middle. Give Wiz a break. He's playing no worse than anyone else, excluding Wilson. his recent games have shown decent improvement. And he's not contributed to the 18% shooting percentage.

We are playing with no one in the middle.

He has three fouls and is an absolute liability when he does play.
Here's his stats year to date.

PTS
5.3

REB
3.3

AST
0.9

FG%
59.4

Last 4 games, 8, 6, 3 and 6 boards.
It seems there was a tall guy once who had a first season O.U. stat line of:

PTS
3.0

AST
0.1

FG%
47.9

...but people acted like he was the next Giannis Antetokounmpo for some reason.

I gladly paid 16 bucks for beers, and bought several more after halftime to drown my sorrows. What an absolute embarrassment. This is a Florida team who is really not that good...like at all. We are just a complete cluster F trying to figure it out. 18 points at half...really? Down by 40 at one point...and we were worried about Boals leaving for Butler.

Can someone tell me where this ranks in the worst Ohio losses? It has to be up there.

The only positives tonight were AJ Brown and the amount of Bobcat support that I saw in the crowd tonight.

I'm going to go to bed hopefully washing this embarrassing night from my memory.

I keep telling myself that in the MAC we can catch fire. We can be 13-17 and an NCAA team and no one will remember Florida right? 😃
Absolutely. Team obviously isn't clicking yet and results don't look very good but no reason to give up now. Keep rooting and hoping they figure it out in March. Maybe they will and in that case you're right, nobody will care about tonight. Maybe they won't and this will get chalked up to a learning and rebuilding year.

Makes me feel like we need better players and guys need to get their collective crap together in a hurry. We'll see if that happens or not over time but you need these measuring stick and prove it games. They can't all be UC Clermont. Suck it up and compete with the big boys if you want to be at this level.

We can compete with Michigan, take them to overtime but get blown out by Florida? and then also get blown out by Marshall and Detroit Mercy?

I'd add Miles to that list. He's played well all year and proved he can play at a high level on the past. I'll give him a pass due to possible injury for tonight's bomb.

Clayton has been "better" lately. If only we could keep playing D2 schools and he'd be a really good PF.

Your point remains though. I see a lineup of Hunter, Brown, Brown and DW3. We don't have a PF on the roster (I said that last off season and was BEGGING Boals to get one in the portal). For his play of late, experience and length I honestly might consider BRod as the last starter. 4 guard lineup but at least BRod and AJ have length at 6'4 and 6'5.

I dunno. Boals needs to start moving toward finding a better lineup. Still time for sure but progress needs to be made/seen.

Yes. Additional data points help put things in perspective and establish trends. Which one of those things above is not like the others?

In other MAC games tonight, Akron started 6-7 Freeman with 4 guards (6-1, 6-1, 5-11, 6-2) and BG started a 6-9, 170-lb center (Seth Towns) with 4 guards.

I'm starting to feel bad for DWIII, who went through what I imagine was a difficult season last year, working tirelessly to return from his injury. He then decided to come back for a final year before learning Sears and BVP were bolting and gutting the roster for his senior season. He deserves having Boals putting the best lineup on the court, giving Ohio the best chance at winning. At the same time, I'm beginning to think it might be best to prepare for the future and get all the frosh more playing time. Not just the obvious (AJ Brown) but Sheldon, James and Hadaway as well. And who knows, that combination might be Ohio's best in the present.

I haven't seen the last three games, so I don't know if this is a trend but tonight the offense consisted mostly of one player dribbling for 20 seconds or so, then taking a shot. No movement off the ball whatsoever. Little passing to create an open man. This is not a three-pt shooting team, so the Florida D didn't have to guard the perimeter, making it tougher on the guys inside. That's not going to win many MAC games.

Without question this is a “rebuilding” year. That said starting Wilson, Miles, Baker and Hunter are not exactly playing wet behind the ear freshmen. These four have had extensive playing time throughout their careers and although Baker and Hunter are new here, after Marshall-Detroit-Florida this combo doesn’t appear to be meshing. Can a legit case be made to sit both Miles and Baker, having them come off the bench and inserting AJ Brown and even James? I just don’t see the advantage of having our a$$’s handed to us, I would do it with developing promising freshmen over seasoned upperclassmen.

I agree with this statement. DWIII is looking like he's ready to play, but he has no supporting cast. The decimation brought about by the two defectors is obvious. I really admire DWiiI for his work ethic and his team spirit. Unfortunately this looks like the proverbial rebuilding year. I guess, at least in 2022, we are a football school!

At this point, I just hope AJ Brown didn't have all of his friends and family in attendance today. That kind of beatdown has the potential to get embarrassing for a guy we can't afford to lose to the portal.

They were all there along with his little brother who as we all know is an outstanding basketball talent himself who we are heavily recruiting.

AJ Brown deserved to start the game last night. #1-He is our best player on the team and his play has been head and shoulders above Baker in every phase of the game. #2-How do you not start him in front of his family and friends in his home state? Just as another nice gesture to him for picking Ohio when he clearly has P5 talent. Sorry, but Boals dropped the ball here big time. Trust me, all I kept thinking last night in the arena was that Todd Golden got a preview of what AJ could look like in Gator Blue and Orange. This is the world we live in now with the portal.

With a talent like this, playing AJ for only 3 minutes in the game’s first 12 minutes made zero sense for so many different reasons. The AJ Brown era of starting games in a Bobcat uniform should have began last night against Florida. It better start Saturday against Stetson. If not, we have every reason to question Boals and this staff even more for not starting his very best player and giving him at least 30 minutes per game.

Florida appeared taller, faster, stronger, and more athletic. They also appeared to have a chip on their shoulders after their own struggles against UCONN and West Virgina. The pace of the game also seemed extremely fast, thus giving Florida a clear advantage over us. Ohio has a lot of moving and independent pieces; most of which consist of MAC level inconsistency, which is why they are playing in the MAC and not the SEC. AJ Brown looks like the real deal, but he is young. There are flashes of promise here and there, but I don't see the team coming together yet or do I have much of a sense of who the leaders are at this time. I am sure it is there, but has yet to become clear to us outsiders.

The Michigan game, despite the outcome, is why it is fun watching Mid-Majors take on teams from the Power-5, especially if it is the Bobcats who are playing the role of David vs. Goliath. Unfortunately, there are games like this. The worst Ohio loss that I can remember, even compared to tonight's game, was that rebuilding year under Coach Hunter when Kansas absolutely mauled us, spanked us, and shredded us. We were clearly outmatched before the team even traveled there. Florida is no Kansas, of course, but they have a good coach and seem to have benefitted quite well from the transfer portal. Unfortunately for them, every team in the SEC is a potential monster this year, so I like our chances in the MAC better than their chances in the SEC.

I hope this team isn't needing confidence, because a beat down like this does not help. I am hoping instead that it gets them angry and motivated to show this was a fluke, and that it is time for everyone to start leaving it all out there on the floor, which was something that their own coach used to do while playing. With the transfer portal now in existence, it sounds like you can only take one year at a time, and that you should treat every year as your last with a specific team.

We should maybe start a "worst loss" thread, but this one reminded me of the Kansas game in 2007. TOS and a pretty good Ohio team were coming off a win at Maryland and absolutely got run out of the gym in Kansas City. So glad I flew out for that one.

This was a terrible and embarrassing game. We did not hit a single shot outside the paint until there was about 10 minutes to go in the game. Offense was just a mess.

As is typical, some reactions are a little too far reaching. The commentator made a great point last night that you're gonna have about 3 games where just nothing is falling, and 3 games where everything is falling...your season is really about those 20 or so games in the middle. I do think last night was one of those dud games. But I will admit it was not well timed as we were on ESPN2 and I also thought about AJ Brown playing in his home state. All I could picture was them standing in the tunnel after the game and various trusted people in his life come away asking what in the world he is doing on that team.

Remember when Jason Preston was a freshman and Saul Phillips kept using Teyvion Kirk as the point guard all season while we all were screaming for a change? Kirk had about 2 turnovers for every assist while Preston was about 5 to 1 assist to turnover and oozing with obvious talent, and yet Saul just continued to let Kirk bring the ball up the court? In many ways Saul's career tombstone should read "here lies Saul Phillips, he just couldn't give up on Teyvion Kirk."

I hope the same thing doesn't happen with Boals & Baker. I will say Brown has actually had more minutes than Baker the last few games in the end. And we can't forget AJ got a late start due to the injury. But I do agree there is a symbolic vote of confidence and public acknowledgement that comes with starting. AJ is obviously one of the best guys on the court out there. He needs to be as full time as anyone.

Miles starting the season 18 for 31 (!!) behind the arc. 0 for 10 since. Hopefully that comes around as his outside shot was a huge part of some of our wins.

Definitely Kansas 2007 vibes, but THAT KANSAS TEAM WON THE NATTY! This Florida team has the makings of an NIT finals ceiling.

I'm astonished how much collective nothing we got from college basketball veterans M. Brown, Roderick, Baker, Wiznitzer, and Clayton. A combined THREE! points from that group on 1-18 shooting, eight rebounds, one assist, 13 fouls.

I agree, it is time for AJ Brown and Devon Baker to switch roles. It is clear which one brings more game impact to the table. Even if they were equal, start the freshman and build him for the future. I wouldn't mind seeing more of Elmore James too.

Worst loss? Hmm getting 50-pieced by Kansas in Vegas was bad, but that team at least had Thomas Robinson and the Morris twins. There was a home loss in the Saul era where Toledo absolutely thrashed us that was especially demoralizing.

Great points. Boals is really committed to his guys but often times leaves me headscratching when it comes to others (and obviously we don't know what goes on in practice etc). I wonder why Adelodun sees no time. In a few minutes last night he had 2 rebounds and 2 assists and was all over the place defensively. Same with Ajay Sheldon. Dude plays hard everytime he's on the floor and had a nice floater. Three of our starters combined for 54 minutes, 1 of 17 field goals, 0 of 5 from 3 with 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals, 3 turnovers, 6 fouls and 3 points. That is between THREE STARTERS. I get that there are off nights but if you throw in Wiz and B-Rod who were each abhorrent, that's 7 guys in your rotation who were non-existent. I don't know how to cure it -- just hope we don't embarrass ourselves in conference.

When the news drops that AJ Brown enters the portal, we point to this game as the final straw.

This was the most obvious game on the schedule to start this kid. Pray that AJ's old AAU coach wasn't at this game.

I've seen multiple posts calling for this team to put their big boy pants on and step up and figure it out. I don't think that's how kids operate these days. If anything they are more likely to be looking at what team they'd want to pursue for next season and possibly earn some extra cash by doing so.
