My thoughts:

First off, great win.  Starting 0-2 would have been dissapointing, to say the least.

I was less impressed with Buffalo than I was impressed by OUr play.  If the bigs are their strength, then a 4th place MAC East finish is probably in the cards.  I thought our defense was solid, but they forced way too many shots.

DJ's shot selection is enough to drive a fan (and hopefully coach) absolutely crazy.  He should never shoot a 3 unless he's wide open, as he should be driving and dishing, always.  He only took 3 last night, so I hope that's a sign that Groce is in his ear, but I recall hating 2 of his attepmts, as he had the lane wide open (as was already pointed out).

Our free throw shooting will cost us 1-2 games this year.

6,200 on a Wednesday is impressive.

On to Akron.

The crowd was good, but agree with shab about it being kind of like a football crowd leaving early.  It was pretty thin by the end of it.  Like a mid 30s male's head, the Ozone is thinning and it is tough to deny.  I feel like the old zone is increasing while the Ozone is declining, and it isn't all just because of JSF's transition.  But overall the convo had a feel that we were happy to be back in the convo and ready to party.  Early on I thought the game would be one big party, but it really turned into a lot of whistles and not much flow.

Our defense is great...I love the constant energy and determination to force the turnover.  I feel like trying to run an offense against us would be horribly frustrating with the feeling that there are 6 or 7 defenders on the floor.  I still maintain we are doing an adequate to good job creating good looks on offense that just have not fallen much since Christmas.  The biggest cause for this is Walter...He would be the first to tell you he is just ice cold right now...Still playing well in every other sense, just not hittin them.  Really really happy to see him drain his last attempt.  He will get on track, just like Ivo's free throws will get on track.  These are the primary reasons why I remain optimistic about this team and think it could be special this year and next.

We caught a break with McCrea, obviously because of foul trouble limited him to 20 minutes, but also the fact that he struggled to finish.  Despite that, it was still clear he is a beast out there.  Super strong, athletic, and talented.

I was obviously happy with the effort and win last night.  My only concern is Walter - need to get him feeling confident in his offensive game.  If he starts clicking, we can be very, very good.  Right now he's struggling.

The O Zone had their best showing of the season last night, so I'm hopeful things will continue to improve with them. There's still a dearth of leadership. Someone has to step up. I blame Brooks, Drake's predecessor as Director of Marketing, for a lot of this.

And, as supremely weird as it is to say, I'm working with them a little.

You didn't see our star big for the entire first half and some of the second. He played a whopping 20 minutes in his worst game of the year. Had the refs not had their whistles glued into their mouths we may have had a different game.

I agree with Shabom that it was a good turnout as far as numbers go in the Ozone...but many appeared like they didn't know what to do.  They appear to need leadership, as others have pointed out.

JSF, I have your "Oldzone" t-shirt ready.  Are you flashing signals across the floor??

Thats what happens when you lower your shoulder and try to bowl defenders over, you get fouls called on you. Your boy Filzen got a big time reality check last night . He was covered  the whole game like chocolate on a cherry.

We just out hustled and out scrapped Buffalo for the ball and thats what cost you the game, because Ohio sure wasn't burning up the nets.

An Idea for the O Zone.

Move the people who start the chants back 4 or 5 rows.  I understand they want to be in front, close to the action.  But it seems like chants don't get spread around at all because no one behind them can hear them.
