It would be nice to get a MAC road win before hosting four straight games. That would set up for a good chance at taking the early lead in the division. Of course, Akron will probably put a lot into this game after what happened at the JAR last year.

Agree with UpSan.  While this game isn't a must-win, it would be huge if we could get through the East the first time around at 4-1.

From what I've seen so far, we should be very happy that we drew Ball State at home.  They look to me like the class of the west.  I was pretty impressed with their effort against Toledo.  I think our game against Toledo will be tough, but a win there should allow us to sweep the west.

Actually, we may have the three best teams in the West at the Convo this year.  Western is 7-9 but their OOC losses included S. Dak. St. (now 13-5), Iona, Colorado, Purdue, Gonzaga and Duke all on the road and Temple at home.  CMU is 7-8 with OOC losses at Temple, Minn, Iowa St & Neb.  Playing the tough guys at home and the softer schedule on the road sets up a sweep of the West.

Any word from you Akron area folks about weather/driving conditions for this one?  I realize that Friday will be the worst weather day, but Saturday is predicted to have some snow too, especially early.

If a driver was to arrive in the Akron area about 2:30 p.m. or so, and leave Akron around 7:30 p.m., how do you think the roads would be?

Concerned about blowing snow.

If it's too bad, Jeff, you can always come to Athens for the Walk for the Homeless.

Hopefully the bad weather comes and goes this weekend so we can have a mild one next weekend.

Weather.com says only 3-5 inches over the next 36 hours and only flurries Saturday.   Weather advisory ends at 3 PM tomorrow.  If that all holds true there should be no problems with travel.

My zip code of 44614 which is 20 minutes south of the JAR is showing 1 to 2 inches of snow Friday and 30% chance of flurries on Saturday.  Saturday a high of 26 and low of 19 and not much wind.

The JAR is on Carroll St.
On the corner of Carroll and Spicer there is a relatively new parking deck (East Campus Deck).  There is no charge for parking there.  (I just called and checked)  Your car stays dry and you only walk one block!

Bertter bundle up though because that is a loooong block. Good info. Parents going...Player Will Call is the first set of doors BEFORE the arena entrance at the far right of the building.

if you have extra time pregame there is a pretty nice littel deli and trrain car for the kids inthe Quaker center. with Crazy ROUND rooms. Great upscale restaurant for evening called "Crave" downthe street.

Almost certain the train car is gone/restaurant closed.  University bought out the hotel at Quaker Square and it's now the world's ugliest dorm.

WOW

that is way too bad. ROund rooms were pretty cool and an architextural marvel, is the area where the shops were gone also .....I think Joe Mac, Gram Mom and I were just there last year. Crave still seems to be doing nicely. I thought the University owned it and operated as part of their Hotel Management degree.......ahhhhh well. May give some insight into the quality of THAT AU program.

While UA does own the property, and a portion of it is a dorm, the hotel is still open.  I believe the side shops are as well, though there may not be as many there as there has been of late.  I was there about 3 months ago, and everything was pretty similar to what it was before UA bought the property.  Not sure about the deli or that end of things.

Go Zips.

Those with good tickets sit right behind the Ohio bench.  Those with GA sit further back behind the rail in the upper section; all of this is on the East side of the JAR.

It has always been fun to go to the JAR and watch OUr team, fans like to hate some of our players but they seem to give DJ some respect and awe.

DJ seems to have his best games against the Zip and Flash teams so when we are sitting there tomorrow we expect another top showing from him.  Coop Time; Go Bobcats.

Quaker Square used to be a big deal when I was little. It's sad what's happened to it.

Observations for tomorrow's game:
  • Ohio must play defense and rebound like it did vs. Buffalo and add the missing component--decent shooting.
  • Ohio must have a great game on 3 pt. % defense, since Akron is an outstanding three point shooting team at 40%.
  • On the other hand, Ohio has got to hit some three pointers.
  • Akron forces a lot of turnovers and opponents have a poor assist to turnover ratio.  As usual, Akron puts a lot of pressure on the ball on defense.  Ohio has to take very good care of the ball and value possessions.  Can't have a high turnover day.

Too bad you all aren't coming to Akron to watch it, perhaps this will give you the desire to drive to town for the match.

Weather was a little worse than predicted yesterday.  Akron got about 4.5 inches of snow.  Today's report says "no significant accumulation".  High around 25.
Usually roads are kept in pretty good shape around here, but with the cold temperaturesand wind Friday had its problems.
Drive carefully and have a safe trip!
Go Bobcats!

Good analysis by Jeff. I believe Akron will be overhyped due to Dambrot's hatred for us. His resentments are his number one weakness.
