Well I'm already jacked. I plan on getting to my seat 10 seconds after they unlock the doors on Saturday. I feel that in recent memory, attendance at our football and basketball games has exceeded predictions even for highly-anticipated games. The only letdown I can remember was the George Mason game when there were rumblings of a possible sellout, and only about 7500 were there (but it was still one of the most fun games any of us have attended.) It will be the highest attended game of the Groce and TOS eras, but I think we come a little short of the 13,080 mark.

Remember that games like Kent are anomalies, and games like Akron are the norm. We're better than Miami and I think we gut one out at home. 67-60. Believe me, there is nothing Charlie wants more than to ruin our day for this game. His troops will be ready, and I think they'll be extra dangerous coming off a home loss.

Coming in with my girlfriend! I've mentioned on here before that she's from northern New Jersey and didn't go to OHIO but is now happy to be an honorary Bobcat. This will be her first basketball game so I'm very pumped. Also, my undergrad roommate is flying in from med school in St. Louis.

OHIO: 82

Fiami: 65

Attendence:14,008 (Standing room, using only digits from that storied year 1804)

I too am seriously pumped up for this one.  Wishing I could bypass Friday for Saturday morning.  Getting to BW3 when they open to watch hoops and get primed.  Attendance wise,  I'm hoping for a number that starts with 13k, but I'm a realist in this case.  I'll say 12,480.  We win this one 68-58 by making free throws at the end.

Do not take this game lightly. Our guys have to get back to earth after an emotional high. Plenty of potential distractions with a big crowd and honoring Gary. They gave Kent a tough game at Kent. Miami is down and hurting, but they will be ready to play. We win, but it won't be easy.

hoping for at least 13,933 for attendance and a 71-63 Bobcat win.  actually have a guy from my work that is going down in a party van with a bunch of friends from college to take in this game.  it will be his first visit in years, so its nice to see this game bringing in the periphery of OHIO fans.

Considering Groce just called me to let me know there still $3 and $1 tix still available and the fact I bought my 6 $1 tix the night of the Kennesaw St game, I'm gonna bet we will be a few sammiches short here...

12,800. Cats stay hot, 86-69.

Bobcats 97
Redskins 62

Attendance 12,081

Charlie Coles has a love hate relationship with the Bobcat fans. He loves our enthusiasm but it literally makes his blood boil. I saw him go after a couple of fans in the 80s when he coached for the Chippewas. Coach Coles is a great x's and o's coach. I can't think of a coach in the league who could do more with the little he has this year. We could make a statement of statement with a big win on Saturday. I can't wait to see it in person. I saw some great games against Miami as a student in the 80s, a mid week loss to the Redskins against a senior laden Ron Harper squad in 1986 might have been one of the better losses I have ever seen. In that game everyone realized that the young Snoopy Graham and Dave Jamerson were the real deal. How we ever finished in the bottom of the MAC (after Danny Nee left) with those future NBA players on the squad is beyond me. Perhaps the best game I ever saw in the Convo was the 1983 2OT win against a Ray Meyer DePaul squad. Amazing.

A couple of other notes, Shabamon very true in the 1980s Oxford was certainly home to many college Republicans, However as has happened in uppercrusty areas across the nation, it is now a haven for the liberal elites who swoon for you know who (1600 Pennsylvania Ave.)

Also the attendance figure for sellouts might be a little deceiving as it has changed through the years. The old total was once 13,000+ but I believe that has changed. Someone in 1970 must have bribed the fire marshall to get 14,000+ in the Convo for that big game against BG, but maybe someone else can comment on that because though I do have a faint memory of those games on regional ABC? coverage, I was far too young to understand the ins and outs of it. The 1985-86 saw some high attendance. The game against the Buckeyes in the NIT quickly sold out and the Miami game I mentioned earlier was a near Wednesday night sellout. It is great to talk about the old days, when the current era is also so very promising!

uh, redhawk sucks.

We destroy them.  Defense is inspired.  Only worry is that we are too emotional.

Score:  It's close most of the way due to Miami and Coles always finding a way to make it tough on teams, but Ohio pulls away in the last seven minutes for a 69-58 win.  I can't see Miami letting us run the floor like Kent did.

Our guys will have to avoid the tendency to by overpsyched due to the crowd size and the day's ceremonies, etc.

Ohio 72, Fiami 62

I hope it's in the bag with enough time for some kind of adulatory chant from the Ozone - maybe after "Winning Team, Losing Team", something like a simple "Sorry Charlie" (as in the old Chicken of The Sea commercials) - Get's the win dig in as well as a nod to Charlie.

As much as I would love to see a 14,000 + crowd it wont happen.  Does anyone remember the Miami home game that took place following Ohio's upset of UConn in the Hilo Classic?  So many students showed up that fans with tickets were turned away because the fire marshall (a season ticket holder at the time) ordered the doors shut.  My brother had a ticket and was not allowed to come in until after halftime when some fans left. He said when he showed the guy his ticket he was told sorry bud but the place is already standing room only.   It was after that incident the Athletics Department started making the students pick tickets for the games and had to make the entire arena reserved seating. There were fans from Cleveland, Columbus and Cincy that were turned away as well even though they had tickets. Let's hope the outcome of this Miami game is better because we got our butts kicked in front of packed Convo.  Back then Miami basketball was in a little better shape that today's RedHawk program.

My daughter keeps asking me what the Convo is like full.  I told her loud.

Bobcats - 71
Redhawks - 64

"Sit Down Charlie" will be raining down from the rafters.  Supposedly 8800 tickets sold already, so I'll go with 13,321 announced.

1st game in the convo for me this year, can't wait.

I think your thinking of a different game.  The game I am referring to Ohio was actually beaten pretty soundly but if memory serves, the Bobcats returned the favor in Oxford.

indeed you are talking about different games. The year we beat UConn (85-76) in Maui was the 94 championship year. After that game we beat LaSalle (Maui) 100-80 and @Ball State 84-66. In our first game back to the Convo, we lost to Miami 66-79 in front of an announced crowd of 12,824. The year we lost that 3OT game to Miami was in 1992. That was a big crowd, but not a sellout.

Someone needs to start a picture thread. Cant make the trip but I would like to see some pics of the old girl filled to the rafters again. Was there in 94 and 97 against Miami. Even though we lost, the Miami game in 94 was one of the reasons I chose Ohio University. Loved the bigtime atmosphere and electricity on campus.
