To be fair... IMG owns our broadcast rights. Could have been their decision to maintain the normal broadcast format.

The only things that sucks more than the lack of the broadcast is Miami! 

I like our crew, but they absolutely dropped the ball on this. Bobcats from across the country were looking forward to watching and hearing this ceremony. Many of us changed plans to do this.

I'd really like to hear an explanation from Russ and the gang on this one. We have one of the best Broadcasting/Telecommunications schools in the country and we can't hook up a streaming feed properly? On top of that, no ceremony on the radio?? To me...that's the real kick in the you know what. Someone has to be smart of enough to say...alright..no video..we'll give you audio.

 A back-up plan should have been in place for this once in a life-time event.

I got the impression from Russ's comment during the game that the problem wasn't with the equipment at the Convo but with the broadband network in Athens.  He said something about lots of people using the internet because of the weather.  That could be. 

Still, I agree that it was a HUGE mistake not to put the Trent ceremony on the radio feed.  I don't care if IMG controls the format.  This was a big day for OU sports and to not make special arrangements for this was lousy.  The only thing they are concerned about is getting all the spots in and that's easily doable, even if you have to reprogram a computer or even do it (gasp) BY HUMAN HANDS.  *&^%^&* decision on the part of the broadcast people.

Uh, they may "own" the broadcast rights but they work of OU not the other way around.  If this was indeed the reason, the contract needs to be renegotiated today.  There are other options for marketing.

As was discussed on CHAT today, don't promise something you can't deliver on.  Russ posted on this site this week about what would happen with the webcast, but he really wasted his time due to no webcast.  I think Russ does a great job, just for the record.  I hope it is possible to archive any video they do have.

There have been hitches before today. 

I'm not saying anything specific was anyone's fault specifically, because I don't know how everything works in this area, and sometimes things happen that are unpreventable.

But you're acting like these guys are working out of the goodness of their hearts. That's ridiculous.

Hey, I don't know if not putting the ceremony on the radio was a result of the ISP contract or a decision made by the broadcast team.

I would say, let's try to find out more and be open to the possibility that people don't walk on water. Nothing accusatory has flown.

The bottom line is that there's room for improvement in the experience offered to fans, potential donors and others who for whatever reason show interest in ICA at OU. Not putting the ceremony on the radio was an apparent oopsie, especially in light of the video stream failure. No need for the "love it or leave it" attitude.

WOW!!!!

I had 4 different devices , 3 android smartphones and an ACer notebook trying to keep up with Tommys game in the UK.. I have NEVER had a problem getting a link in the Convo. I could occassionally, during the game, get a score if I went through multipe screens and waits .....that explains why I couldn't get on...I kept tinkering with the settings and network connections and even uninstalled Boingo.....

A couple of very good points.

On the old board I talked about this and foks poo pooed it. WHen I walk in I usually walk by the TV truck if there is one. I tyr to make the folks there know we appreciate them being there. I don't know what you call the guys walking around with rolls of cable on their shoulders but when I say "how's it going?" those guys ALLLLL roll their eyes and start into an expanation of how bad the wiring is and how it should be labelled some of being somewhat archaic for today's digital signals  With that knowledge, ove the past 4 years, when I have seen a turck on the road , I ask the same question and if they have a positive answer, I ask why it was so easy....generallly I have found that certain places have responded to getting things on air by upgrading their broadcast ability. I have often wondered if part of the reason why we dont get more video is because crews do not like coming here. Perhaps those who are growing in numbers and watching this free product could earmark donations toward that upgrade.

On the subject of RUss....I dunno what other Universities pay their guys but doing a live show on Monday nights, giving us the previews and post views, doing the research before every game, being onthe road, putting himself in a pretty good positon with the opposition and being on his best behaviour whilst living in Ahens and NOT commuting to and from is a lot to do for a young upwardly mobile professional if htat is truly his salary. Having survived Warren and lookig at the quality of the other MAC schools announcers and the product surrounding the program....we do much better with RUss.

Please do NOT sleep on these subjects as they are improtant and if you like the product generally voice your concerns in a positive way that the school will do the neccessary upgrades to the physial side of things and retain the talent we currently have and prepare for when that talent moves on....
