Rough timing for me.  The boy just had his tonsils removed and the TV is his tomorrow.  Bless the DVR!

A great time for dad and son on the couch with a couple of bowls of ice cream watching the BOBCATS.  But then again it is hard to watch the Bobcats without occasionally having to yell at the TV.  Best not to risk your son aping dad the day after the tonsillectomy.  Hope recovery all goes well.

He's five so I'll do my best but it's hard to pull him away from Dr. Seuss Wubbulous whatever show.  He also recently chose a night at Grandma's house over attending Ohio @ EMU.  I've failed as a parent!

I only know A1 when its on my steak but I agree, the Convo looks great! The center court logo, the white towels, the 110, the students, the size of the crowd, the arena itself, it all looks really good. And the shot of a snow covered alumni gate has me really missing Athens right now. go bobcats!

Haha A1 is the primary audio mixer on a show (A2 would be an assistant). I know we often complain about getting the fifth string, but even on a busy Saturday, this has been a solid broadcast.

Cooper and Baltic with several poor decision all game long.  Their heads haven't been in the game today. With let Ball State back in the game with poor play. Baltic has no focus at the line, making foul 80ft from the basket ball and passes to nowhere. Cooper more ill advised threes from Parkersburgh and 6 turonvers and counting. Offutt can't make easy layups. Kellogg has been missing in action again.  Johnson and Smith have played great today. Where would we  be without those two.

Bad game all around but the FT percent sticks out most.  Game could have been iced a number of times.

We played hard but like crap.  Jon Smith played a great game on Jones. He has become a guy we absolutely need on the floor on the defensive end. He is coming along fast and putting together solid defensive games against some quality bigs with far more experience. If our guards can play to their ability and stay focus we can be a good team. Today we just got by at home. This is the type of game that you lose on the road. Bobcats have gotten sloppy and unfocused with big leads. We have looked like to dominate team most of our games and then has long periods of crap where we get careless with the big lead.  If you want to win the MAC you gotta focus for 40 minutes like Akron does.  That seems to be the difference. Ohio lets teams hang around and in the MAC you will get burned a couple times doing that.

The only thing I took away from this game was the fact that Ball State plays both Miami and Bowling Green on February 8th.

Actually, I'm going to copy my facebook status to give my thoughts:

"The Ohio Bobcats basketball team win yet again in another low scoring affair.  They are 17-4 now following a 59-55 victory over the Ball State Cardinals!  You have to take them as they come, no matter how ugly."

Can always count on you two.  This team is on pace to set a program record for wins.  Enjoy the ride.

Winning a regular season conference title is not supposed to be easy.

Being at the game, I have to give some credit to our students. Not the biggest crowd, but certainly much better than I expected for an 11 AM game. I've got to think it looked pretty cool at the end of the game with everyone standing and waving the rally towels.

This was a true "survive and advance" kind of game. We've escaped arguably 2 of the best teams in the West, now it's time to see what we can do on the road!

Actually, the open looked good as well with everyone standing and waving the white towels. Good job on the towels as it least give the illusion (couldn't tell whether it was or wasn't) that the lower Bowl was full and people were into the game. All in all, thought the Convo experience showed well on TV.

Sometimes when a team plays great defense the offense goes downhill.  The defense was great with some good stops.  We locked down on Jones with triple teaming.  When we left that trapping defense, Jones made 8 straight
points in the 2nd staff.  Was glad that Nick got his stroke back.  His first several shots were so flat.  Walt was very
good on defense.  This was a very good win!!

BTW - those couple of signature Offutt drives from the elobow that he missed were Not Easy layups - he was driving into the trees. he makes Way more of those than he misses, and most misses draw a foul. One of those today should have been called a foul. However - he did miss his first 2 free throws today - ARGH! We absolutely suck at the FT line!

Yes, if we had made anywhere close to the free throw percentage that BSU had, we would have won this game going away and would not have had the nail bitter  at the end.  Ivo is particularly a case in point.  Maybe he should start using a jump shot for his free throws.  He can make shots from that same distance from the field, but not from the line.

I like his bank shot from the FT line - I think he is 2 for 2 this year with that technique.......

Nice time at the game today. I got a handful of texts and emails saying the turnout looked good on tv. Student turnout was decent as well. 6000 announced seemed close.

EMU is taking the title for empty seats on television right now.

The rally towels were a nice touch. They actually made me a bit dizzy when everyone was waving them near the end of the game.

I also noticed more 'Bobcat' cars on the way down from Columbus today than any time in the past few years(for hoops). Perhaps the early start, and subsequent early finish is preferable to out of towers? Regardless it was nice to see so many.

Another game when we didn't play/shoot particularly well, and still win. Good teams do that. That, like Groce said in his post game presser, is one we would have lost last season.

I hope we can lose the shooting funk before tourney time, but it's nice to get these last few wins while we wait for that to happen.

We know that all teams have good games and not so good games.  We all know that we analyze our favorite team to death and fans get overhyped with good games and get too critical with bad games.  I guess the bottom line is we continue winning and that's all that matters.

Yet despite all these realities of any given season, I really can't put my numb on this team.  Literally every player shows a different side literally every game.  You think you have one player going and one not, then the next game it's the opposite.  Ricardo can't hit an open shot, today he can.  Baltic is great, then Baltic shoots an airball foul shot and looks totally lost.  Kellog is one of the top 3 point shooters in the country, Kellog cant hit any three pointers.  Jon Smith is soft and will end up on the bench by years end, Jon Smith is coming around.  Reggie, Offut, etc.... it's a merry go round.

Whatever the case it's fun to follow game to game, but after 21+ games I still don't know this team very well.  Anybody else lost or is it just me?

Per Offense yes - except Offut pretty steady, can count on him to make some plays every game, everybody else up & down - we're fortunate to have the depth. Per Defense - we're pretty steady there!

So I'm assuming Tim Hardaway was at the game for the Heat looking at Jones?

I'd think so. Didn't hurt his son was just up the road the same day.

made my first trip this year for yesterdays game. Good thing they won, that was ugly. Ft shooting was about as bad as I have seen. I have seen only one game worse this year or any year for that matter. They make 15 of 17 and we make ? Oh well going to lose one that way.  Thank god for the otterbein-marietta game I went too yesterday afternoon, now that was a well played and exciting game.

Per my really reliable source ...yes. 4 scouts in the Convo to day looking at Jones.

I feel kind of  vindicated after trying to get someone to look at him from his freshman year in HS on.... I understand the original source of my info was the Michigan City bus driver which turned a few coaches off.......but he has been  through guys like DelRay Brooks and similar on his busses and may be as big a junkie for hoops as I am and lives in the region where he has seen every one from Glenn Robinson, Xavier Silas, Harangody, Dakich as preps to the Hammond/Gary guys to Robbie Hummel/Zack Novak and the Dunelands conference folk.

You never know when a pretty good prospect may be under a rock unless you actually turn it over and look.
