So is there anyway Kent could drop to the 5 seed or do they have the 4 locked up?

No.  Kent now is definitely the 4 seed.

Kent has a 4 seed locked solid. The way the brackets work is Ohio will avoid Kent or Akron until the MAC finals which I think is a good break for us.

GO BUGS !!! Need that 2 seed baby!
I really don't mind too terribly much between 2 or 3 -- both avoid Akron until the championship.

^^This!  We are on the opposite side of the bracket from Kent and Akron regardless of what happens later today.

I was genuinely concerned about this game.  Glad we were able to pull this out.

Our likely opponent for Thursday night will be Eastern Michigan or Bowling Green, right?

The bracket is great, but a 9:30pm start time on Thursday and/or Friday is awful.

Is the 2 vs 3 game set for 9:30 on Friday?  Or has that yet to be determined?

I cant make a Thursday game (I don't want to hear it...CPA in March).  Sure would be nice if Buffalo blew it tonight so I could plan the trip up Friday night with tickets/hotel rather than wait until late Thursday night to do that.

I really like the new seeding format, especially that the MAC West isnt guaranteed anything just because they are in a different division.  Under the old rules, I believe the MAC West Champion got the # 2 seed, regardless of record.  I think the seeding made for a more interesting regular season, especially the way the schedule plays out with games against your own division, then cross-over, then finishing against your division.

Kudos for the MAC leadership for making this change.

I love them!  (Selfishly) -- means I can at least watch without having to worry about putting a show on the air.

2. Ohio
3. Buffalo
4. Kent
5. Bowling Green
6. Eastern Michigan
7. Toledo
8. Western Michigan
9. Ball State

Correct me if I'm wrong...but if we keep winning..we avoid Kent/Akron until the finals?

We're on the opposite side of the bracket from those two regardless of result tonight. It's just a matter of if we have to win Thursday to get to Buffalo in the semis, or whether Buffalo has to win Thursday to get to us in the semis.

Kent and Akron will play each other in the first semifinal, unless Kent blows it Thursday.

 If UB wins:

NIU/EMU/BSU/WMU vs. Kent

Miami/Toledo/CMU/BG vs. Ohio

NIU/EMU/BSU/WMU/Kent vs. Akron

Miami/Toledo/CMU/BG/Ohio vs. Buffalo

If BG Wins:

NIU/BG/BSU/WMU vs. Kent

Miami/Toledo/CMU/EMU vs. Buffalo

NIU/BG/BSU/WMU/Kent vs. Akron

Miami/Toledo/CMU/EMU/Buffalo vs. Ohio

Honestly……we can’t ask for better. No way we lose to BG/Toledo (I think we draw one of the two) on Thursday. Buffalo? We should run them back to that sorry campus and be in the title game Saturday. I like the offense we run and the defense we are playing.

I also disagree with Mix and MR. Having almost a week off is not good. You get in a rhythm and get familiar with it thru a season. Playing against your own guys to maintain that routine is not the same after a week of downtime.

a championship run probably looks like BG, Akron and Buffalo for all the marbles. We bring our A game nobody can hang with us, but if our bigs play soft and force DJ into rolling out the chuck wagon and its going to be a long wait till football season starts.

Gotta admit, I don't love seeing BG & Toledo at 6/7.  They are really the only 2 non-terrible and/or potential deadly teams outside of the top 4...They'll be coming off a confidence building vicory over the other the night before.  We should beat them, but I've seen crazier (and more depressing) things happen.

I still can't believe Buffalo won that game at Akron.  Grr.

I don't think a win over BGSU or Toledo is a given.  Heck, the Falcons have already beaten us once, and Toledo has also.  I think we'd be favored over either and odds would be in our favor, but it would be a battle against either team.

I was at our loss at Toledo.  To quote Dickie V, I've said it once, I'll say it again, Toledo is a very dangerous team that could make a surprising run in the tournament.

We bring a good effort, we beat either of them.  If we're off, it could be a long night vs. either.

I think the good thing is - that every team in the conference, if you asked them in confidence "who are you most scared of?"

The answer would be: Ohio, Ohio, and Ohio.

Don't get me wrong, I was cheering for BG tonight and the #2 is what we all wanted, but if it's meant to be the #2 or #3 will work just the same.

The Pro's to #2 are obvious
1.  No fear of a Thursday night upset
2.  Fresher legs and not having to potentially play 3 straight nights
3.  WIn one game and straight to the championship game

The Pro's of a #3 are compelling as well:
1.  You ease your way into the tournament by getting a game under your belt after a 4+ day break.
2.  Re-acquaint yourself with the Q, the court and rims
3.  If you can't beat Toledo/BGSU or whomever, at least you save your weekend because if you can't beat them you probably aren't going to beat Buffalo/Kent/Akron  Agree that BGSU for example has been playing well, but if you can't beat them on the biggest stage of the year opening night, a magical ride through the tournament probably wasn't in the cards anyway.
4.  You play a team Friday night that jumps straight from a 5 day layoff to a huge, pressure cooker game late at night.
5.  We get the side of the bracket that doesn't include Kent, Akron or EMU.

So like I said, if it's meant to be, the #3 seed will work just fine.

If the West Division winner didn't get an automatic #2 seed, it sounds to me like all teams were seeded based on their league records. So why did we have divisions this year?

We didn't want to play 22 league games?

Travel was probably a factor as well.
