I only got to see a few minutes of the game today, but wow! I really feel like everything's coming together at the right time, and if we keep playing like we have been, we can legitimately compete for a MAC title!

Gotta believe the MAC office is secretly rooting for Kent and Akron to join UT and Ohio in semis. Best 4 traveling fan bases with possible exception of Buffalo.

Might be short lived; but the trio of Jaylin, AJB, and EJ4 is going to be special.
I have no doubt Todd Golden has probably left 78 impermissible text messages on AJB phone today. I think we are good next year with these guys. It's the Junior seasons I worry about.
Leonard Hamilton straight to voicemail.
Ha...yes...that too.

When AJ Brown is "on" its a fun to watch. And nothing seems to faze James. Very encouraging.

Elmore gives off senior leadership vibes. Like he's been here forever. Season isn't over, but hard not to get fired up next year with Elmore...AJB and Hunter in the line-up and Boals finding 6-8/6-9 Forward/Center gold in the portal.

Great offensive production for 2 games in a row. Love the positive chatter here. We have all mentioned a while ago about getting the team together mentally /confident during this time of year. It showed this afternoon. I also mentioned how coaches and players get their roles at this time of year.. I hope there are good vibes in the locker room. Great Game! could not have asked for a better team effort. We are rested, however, tourney time/ March is the best free "drug" for basketball player this time of year. The adrenalin is peaking.. crazy things happen. BLeed Green .. I hope there can be good representation tomorrow.

Would love to see DWIII get stretches of court time longer than 3-4 minutes.

Anderson Mirambeuax just played the first 6:42 of the second half of the first quarterfinal game. Just saying.
Yup....you have to go with DW3 as long as you can. Shorten the bench. I said it earlier in this thread. This is March not November.
This aged well. Considering Baker and Brown keyed the take off!

How about lengthening the bench and get to Toledo fresher than playing Dwight forever.

In Boals we trust.

What are you talking about? For once, I didn't specifically call out The Whiz in a post. Who else do you think I was talking about??? But since you brought it up...yes...shorten the bench. Which means...The Whiz shouldn't play another second in Cleveland. There ya go.

Thanks for saying he shouldn't play another minute--but you wouldn't have had him play today till the bench was cleared. Was it bad strategy on the part of the staff to have a 9 man rotation today with potential 3 games in 3 days?

Sparks isn't particularly good at the line so making him work and hacking him was what Wiznitzer offered. Perhaps not so with Toledo. However, it seems you wouldn't have played him until the bench cleared. By his playing, he kept Clayton and Wilson on the bench some extra minutes and just perhaps allowed for springier legs if they can make it to that third game Saturday.

Boals will play him tomorrow too so folks don't start drinking because of it! Just too bad our friends in Oxford didn't make the Rockets work up a sweat.

I do not believe the MAC office is secretly rooting for Kent and Akron. They're pretty openly NEO biased.

Did I miss something with Miles? He only played nine minutes today and didn't seem his normal self.
He was in warm-ups most of the second half and I don't think played the last 25+ minutes at all.

All the calls to shorten the bench didn't happen. He knows it is one and done but also the first of three games in three days and wants the best chance to win game 3. I wonder in Miles could have played but didn't because we had a lead and something minor was off.
He caught an elbow at some point late in the first half and came right out. I saw them talking to him at the end of the bench. Maybe he was woozy...?
I saw him in the huddle towards the end of the game and he did look a little out of it. Thanks for the info.
It is possible that he could end up in concussion protocol. We don't see it often in basketball but if he messed the second half because he was woozy.....

I'll wager money Wiz plays tomorrow. We have no choice. Wilson can't go 40 minutes. And if he tried to he'd be struggling up and down the floor and likely have a subpar game.

Yes, that is correct…I wouldn’t play The Whiz at all in Cleveland. That is what I meant when I said shorten the bench. Ask yourself this. Boals always takes Wilson out at around the 16:20 mark before the first TV timeout. Do you really think we are losing anything if The Whiz didn’t come in for DW3 and we brought in Clayton? I will argue that we are better off in this scenario. I think we can survive for 2 minutes with Clayton coming in for Wilson instead of The Whiz. As Andrew Ruck so eloquently stated in an earlier post…The Whiz is not a division-one basketball player and it’s embarrassing that we have to give him props and get excited when he makes a simple hand-off pass.

IMO it was "hopefully" concussion protocol with Miles today. He looked mentally well when greeting the rest of the team after the game. It was nice to see solid rotation. Its always nice to see everyone involved for PT/ experience. ....However Toledo is a whole new ballgame. I think we got a good draw. We match up better with them than Kron/Kent.. We'll see. Hocking College might have a spot for Wiz next year.

He isn't/ hasn't been a "project" as some have forementioned. As a 4 star out of H.S. he is still lost (as a D-1 player)

That was our A+ game. Everything clicked. I was worried at the under 16 timeout but never again. Ball State looked completely mismatched.

Best defensive outing of the year. I love how our offense was super aggressive. AJ Brown just balled out. Baker had some great minutes. Hunter was good. DW3 was efficient. Elmore James was awesome. AJ Clayton was solid. It all clicked.

If we play like that, we can win the MAC. Period, end of story.

Let's do it again tomorrow.

Only Miami kinda sorta made Toledo work for it. And we are left with the same four teams as last year without it really being interesting. Buffalo has had some very good teams recently. Ball State is certainly one of the best programs of the past four decades, with a lot of success in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s and has a good young core.

The thing that made the MAC one of the best mid-major conferences was parity. It has fallen off in the last couple of years because it no longer possesses it and I am not sure I see at lot of promise right now in the other 6 programs.

Good to hear from ya Jerry. We all know how much you would still rather have Saul over Boals. You have been real quiet about Boals success in his first four years at Ohio. How is that working out for you? I don’t hate anyone. I just hate playing a guy in The Whiz who isn’t ready for this level of college hoops. And Jerry….here is the kicker….we don’t have to play The Whiz to survive a few minutes with DW3 on the bench. 99.1% of the people on this board who have watched every game this season knows this.

Who on here complains about Wiznitzer? It could be worse.....

Isaac Jack- 6 minutes played, 5 personal fouls.

I was just thinking about this...very true. You look over the last 20 years and there is a very clear divide of the top 6 and bottom 6 with no indication that is changing any time soon. Miami & WMU are the 2 that just can't seem to get back on their feet to what they used to be.

Russ and Rob mentioned in the first half that there was something off about him in the pre-game shoot around. Said everyone else was in shorts, he was wearing sweats and something just seemed off before the game even started.

We really need 6-12 in this league to get better and I agree with all here...do we really see this happening in the next 3-5 years? I don't see it

The killer is Buffalo now being irrelevant. It's all Whitesell's fault. Buffalo took the easy way out in hiring an assistant when the game has clearly passed him by.

If this is all so obvious, why does Boals keep playing Wiznitzer? It's clear that Gabe needs work and coaching up, but Boals must see a possible future in him that some on this board do not. Not to besmirch the basketball brilliance of us BA posters, but I do think Boals knows more about coaching D1 basketball and player development than almost anyone on this board.
