Does Boals think Clayton is Dave Jamerson? This offense or whatever you call it is pathetic to watch.
Clayton has been a mixed bag on offense, hit and miss games, and it has not been developing, essentially just shooting over the top. But it's his defensive skills and energy level that are most questionable. It seems the player shooting against him rarely misses.
I like AJ and what he can provide on the offensive end as a stretch guy off the bench, but my issue with him is shot selection. He's been given the green light but that doesn't mean (to me at least) he needs to look to chuck the ball from deep every time he touches it. There are a few I've seen this season where I wonder if he even saw the rim before pulling up for the jumper. I need to see a more well rounded game from him.
He's had 8 games this season where's hoisted 5 or more threes. Of those, he's 18/56 or roughly 32%. That's way too many shots for that little of consistency.
I’ve been preaching (or complaining, however you want to look at it) about this over the last few weeks in different threads. On the season, Clayton has attempted 153 shots. 94 of those are 3’s. 61% of his shots should not be from behind the arc given his low accuracy level and I just don’t get it. He has zero hesitation, he doesn’t even pump fake it’s catch and release.
I’m guessing there’s correlation between it and his benching, but he hasn’t changed his offensive game. The kid is 6’8 225 as 19 year old. I feel like he could be a beast in the paint if he would just you know….try it?
