I heard that interview coming in to work today. He was very respectful of Ohio. IMO, Roy Williams and Izzo are the examples to follow for prototypical college basketball coaches. No one else comes close.

I think there a few more than just those two, though they are good examples. Mike Krzyzewski, Brad Stevens are two that come to my mind as well. Tom Crean isn't a bad example either in my opinion.
And John Groce......

Wonder how much zone we will see from Ohio. Obviously it makes it tougher to rebound, but UNC isn't that strong of a 3 point shooting team. It can limit Barnes' and guards' drives and make it tougher for Zeller and Henson to score inside.

Two fifteens have already beaten two twos in this this tourney.  Why not a thirteen over a one...why not us...why not now?

I am wodering (out loud, to anyone) what kind of game plan Groce and company put together to stop their bigs. What kind of rotation are we looking at for Ohio and do we think there will be a lot of double teams put together on the inside? One major thing Ohio must do is limit North Carolina's offensive rebounds. That is one reason why the Bulls were up early in the game Sunday, but Ohio squelched in the second half. Ohio is going to have to hit shots from the outside the neutralize UNC's defense; no doubt about it.

We will do what we have done all year. Double the point and then double the ball down low.  Make it really tough for teams to pass the ball to points where offensive players like to catch it.  We have done an amazing job all year on teams that pass the ball to create their offense.  We have been susceptible to players that can create their own shots.  Harrison Barnes scares me.

Tom Crean? LOL - He is a whiny baby and very sore loser. He has trashed opposing coaching staffs but didn't want to "name names." Psshh

This guy?

Some Crean quotes :
“I think when you get to the game and you get out there at early at Indiana, you don’t see our (assistants) hob-nobbing with national media members and sitting on the sideline and relaxing,” Crean said. “We don’t have a team of guys that are out wearing their Beats headphones as they’re warming up. Our guys are out there working with them. I don’t have a group of guys that are grandstanders, that are looking to get an article done about them. I’ve got a group of guys that are really, really hungry to make the team better. That’s game night.”

"...grandstand assistant coaches that run their mouth constantly against us in recruiting and want to talk about development, yet they’re the guys that are cheerleading and hob-nobbing and all of those kinda things..."

Indiana fans seem to think it was directed at Coach Boals.

I have not seen many Tar Heels over here, which is surprising.  Looking forward to the game tomorrow and here is a little insight into our team for those that haven't watched a lot of our games.

PG: Kendall Marshall: our most important player.  Offensive efficiency is much much higher with him on the court.  If he doesn't play then expect to see Stilman White run point.  Stilman has a 3-1 A/TO ratio in limited time and seems pretty composed, but make no mistake- although we have tons of talent, Kendall Marshall is what makes that talent work.

SG: Reggie Bullock- our best on-ball defender.  Teams tend to hit a high % from 3pt and Reggie is usually assigned to the other teams best perimeter player, and sometimes the best overall guard.  I'm guessing that he is either on Cooper or your best 3pt shooter.  Offensively I think he has the most talent on the team and is a great shooter and rebounder.  He just doesn't look too much for his offensive game since being inserted into the starting lineup following the loss of our starting SG Dexter Strickland several weeks ago.  If he is left open he will hit the shot.  I actually think he will be better than Barnes once he starts asserting himself.

SF: Harrison Barnes: our best pure shooter, however he tends to try too much if he gets limited touches.  He'll go silent for a large portion of the game and then press to see if he can make something happen.  He is not a great ball handler and can't create his own shot as well as some make think.  He really emerged onto the scene last year after Kendall became the PG.  Kendall's absence will hurt him and he may try to hard.  He has improved his low post game and could have a big game down low with his size.  It is weird- but almost every game you wonder where he has been yet he still puts up 17 pts.

PF: John Henson- goofy guy with extremely long arms.  Think Anthony Davis but with a smaller build.  He has really improved his outside shot and can hit the 15 footer regularly if not covered.  He tends to lay off of opposing team's post players and let them drive in on him before he blocks the shot.  He averages a double-double and expect to see another good performance again.  Just don't hit his wrist.  He is also a great passer so be worried if you see a double-team on him because he will find a streaking player for an easy basket.

C: Tyler Zeller: our most consistent player and most productive.  The dude can score from almost everywhere on the court and has some great low post moves/shots.  He can run like a gazelle, especially after an opposing team's basket.  He was Player of the Year in the ACC and our offense will be focused on giving him the ball down low.  He has had some ball handling problems this season and has been susceptible to double and triple-teaming.  He is a beast on the offensive glass and you can expect him to do so again.  You can expect to see him take a charge rather than go for the block.

Key Reserves:
PF: James Michael McAdoo - freaky good athlete and some great post moves.  He is also a great defender when denying the pass, but can make bone-headed plays on both sides of the ball.  He can hit the outside shot and can become a highlight reel.  Has really stepped it up recently after a lackluster start to the season.  He has a quick trigger.

SG/SF: P.J. Hariston: supposed sharp-shooter who has been very cold since the beginning of conference play.  His 3 pt shot has seen some improvement in the post season and he can come alive very quickly.  He is fast and his defense has improved greatly.  He has never seen a shot he hasn't liked though.

PG/SG/SF/PF: Justin Watts: Has player PG, SG, SF, and PF this season.  Not the best player but extremely athletic and knowledgeable about our offense and defense.  If Stilman struggles with DJ cooper then expect a much more athletic Watts to play the point.

I don't know what to expect if Marshall doesn't play.  Roy may decide to continue to push the ball or he may decide to slow it down and look for the best shot.  If DH cooper wreaks havoc in our back-court then you can expect Bullock or Barnes to bring the ball up the court and give it to Stilman to start the offense.  There will be a heavy dose of Tyler Zeller unless he is double and triple teamed then expect Henson and Barnes to carry the load.

Defensively we are much much better than people think and we may even be better without Marshall.  I still don't know who matches up with Cooper.  That was tailor made for Dexter Strickland, but alas.

I think McAdoo will be the best pro of the bunch.

Fair enough on Tom Crean.  I relent.

Tom Crean is a pair of oversized metal frame glasses and a mustard shirt away from being the Dwight Schrute of college basketball in both appearance and overearnestness.

They're probably busy scouting/chatting up Kansas. ;-)

Thanks for the scouting report on UNC.

So what are the chances that Ethan Jacobs might have to get some minutes to bang with the big guys of UNC?

He could get minutes at the end of the first half if there is under 1 sec left to prevent a lob or something.

Other than that the only way he gets minutes is if 1) there is a fight and he comes off the bench or 2) if one team is up by 25+ with less than 2 min left.
