Yep out coached in the OVERTIME can you read??...looking at a replay right now. No play calls for Offutt or Kellog?? UNC play calls for Barnes I see a few and you see the results.

Calling a play fort Barnes at the end of regulation was stupid, almost lost them the game. They should have just dumped it in to Zeller, but they couldn't.

Groce coached circles around Roy all night.

I can read.  I can also watch tape.  So let’s look at the OT.

OT begins.  “Ohio at disadvantage because UNC in double bonus.”

Ohio possession.  Run high pick roll play - Pass down low to Smith. Bobbles it.  Passes out to Baltic – misses shot.  I’ll take that play (we look to run it again in a moment).

UNC possession: Bullock jumper.  Barnes doesn’t touch ball as Offutt cuts him off (by the way, great D by Offutt all night – Barnes was 3-16)).

Ohio possession.  High pick and roll to Keeley doesn’t get shot.  Offutt gets ball on wing as shot clock runs down.  Passes out to Coop who misses long jumper.

UNC possession: after running time and showing “no direction, no plan offensively” Barnes takes jumper bailing out a “bad possession.”  (first made jumper since 3:00 mark of regulation – which was his only bucket in 2nd half.

Ohio possession.  Play run for Offutt as he comes off screen gets ball on wing and drives to hoop – blocked.

UNC possession: Barnes jacks 3 pointer.  Misses.

Ohio possession.  Kellogg makes “dangerous” cross-court pass – looking for Offutt.  Turnover.

UNC possession: White looks for Bullock.  Stripped in lane by Kelley in a “horrible offensive possession.  Completely out of whack.”

Ohio possession.  Cooper uses high pick, gets it to Keeley – goes at Zeller.  Gets fouled.  Gets Ohio in penalty.  Cooper takes 3 pointer from wing.  Good shot for him.  Misses.  But as with Barnes 3-16:  Scorers live by the next shot.

UNC possession: White dribbles t middle an misses.  UNC keeps possession.  Barnes throws bad pass.  Kellogg fouled by Zeller.

Ohio possession.  Kellogg makes free throws.  Down 3.

UNC possession: Barnes gets Kellogg in air (wish he and Offutt hadn’t switched). Makes free throws.  Down 5

Ohio possession.  Cooper looks for  Offutt.  Gets ball on wing.  Can’t beat White off the dribble (legs getting tired?).  He and Hall get disoriented.  Hall misses shot.

UNC possession: Gotta foul.  Offutt fouls Barnes.  Offutt foul out.  Barnes makes 1 of 2.

White closes it out with two late free throws.

So.  Where was Groce out coached?

Sorry for the long post folks, but out coached?  Come on!

Just like I said UNC is up 5 points before OFFUTT or KELLOGG gets a shot. Going to the low post when Reggie and Ivo have been fairly ineffective and having Ivo and Cooper shoot long long jumpers...does that make sense to you? Oh wait don't answer maybe it does. And why are you back in regulation I am talking about OVERTIME. Offutt played great Defense on Barnes BUT unlike Coach Groce in Overtime UNC kept going to their guy. Bottom line Offutt and Kellogg get plays run for them and we score in Overtime maybe more.

LOL.

Groce is awesome. Period. Great coach. Great guy. Great representative of the University. He is the perfect coach for this job. I hope he coaches Ohio University forever.

If you can't enjoy this year's run and simply reflect with a smile, it's time to just stop watching.

False. Zeller was their guy and they didn't go to him.

Isn't it time for you to go back to the football forum and tell everyone how much more you mean to the program than everyone else and drop your "insider" knowledge?

With all do respect.  You are a joke.  Do you really have a problem with the first play?  Really?  Ivo takes jumper because Smith didn't control pass.  Second set we don't run through him but he had a chance to create if he felt he could.  He didn't so Coop shoots.  Third is run for him.  You really have a problem?  Really? Come on.  You are embarrassing yourself.  You overstepped your knowledge.  Just walk away now.

Careful, everyone. This guy is going to hit you with some very mature comebacks that could knock you off your feet for, well, at least a second or two.

Guys, their rebounding and block shots/shot alteration beat our quickness with steals and turnovers.  lesson learned: size kills.  Being there in person, it looked like the officials didn't really help us any.  Nobody fouled on those 8 blocks and no over the back contact on 64 rebounds.  Hard to believe but it was what it was.

I might add that in addition to the team playing the most intense gamne of the year, the OHIO crowd/section was on its feet and cheering the whole game.  Definitely the most intense crowd I have ever been a part of.

Great time to be a proud Bobcat!

Absolutely moronic arguments throughout this thread. I will give an additional $500 donation to the Ohio Bobcat Club to watch you advise the finer points of basketball coaching to John Groce. Provide your contact information and I'll call Brenda and set up the meeting.

Ok, guys... I think we have to keep it in perspective... These young men gave us an outstanding performance against an outstanding team. Instead of finding areas to criticize, that any team in the great sport of basketball will run into at times, I think we should be praising these kids for their heart and determination to be recognized as one of the best 16 schools in this nation.

While the W should have been ours, we fought hard for it,  that's just the way the basketball falls.

Thanks Bobcats for a great season.

Get your head outta your arse guy. Everyone has an opinion and seeing that other Div 1 coaches agree that Groce was out coached in overtime validates my argument and honestly your right . You don't matter!! I bet your one of the thousands of Ohio Alumni that scream and hollar for the Bobcats when people are watching and do piddly SQUAT to actually help the university not just sports. I'm either to lazy to post these early season comments by these clowns about maybe Groce needs to go..or maybe I actually have meaningful things to do today than drink Groce's man-koolaid like cc cat and steve.

Thanks Google! So you in some way are affiliated with Ohio University -- and you resort to such infantile tirades. Sad, but I guess at your age immaturity and a "know-it-all" attitude can be expected (from some people). Your knowledge of basketball is not what you think it to be.

http://www.linkedin.com/in/bradleyacree

And since you would have coached a perfect OT period -- here's a few things you maybe overlooked. DJ's shot on 2nd possession was with shot clock almost expired (do the math):

4:31 63-66 NC Reggie Bullock made 3-pt. Jump Shot, Assist Stilman White
3:55 63-66 OH D.J. Cooper missed 3-pt. Jump Shot

Next possession Walt took it to the basket:

3:26 63-68 NC Harrison Barnes made Jump Shot
3:09 63-68 OH Walter Offutt missed Driving layup, Blocked by John Henson

DJ took another shot with shot clock winding down. Thereafter we were in hurry up mode so you can't fault anyone at that stage.

By the way, what other Division 1 coaches agree that Groce was outcoached in OT? I'd love to see a list as well as a source of such. I won't hold my breath though.

No need to match dollars - just join, per another thread, the Ohio Bobcat Club at the highest level you can.  Second, I would like to know what division 1 coaches think Roy did such a fabulous job in OT when Zeller took ZERO shots!!  In fact, they never got him the ball in the post once in OT.  Steve Kerr who announced the game (and knows more about basketball than you and I and whole lot of others) combined certainly had an issue - BTW - the comments quoted in my post above are from Kerr.  As far as the kool-aid.  Pass the green stuff my way and I will salute Coach Groce and the team.

I have given nearly $4,000 to Ohio University so far this academic year, in addition to hosting our region's Bobcat Caravan every year.  If you actually write the matching check, it will be the first honest thing you have ever posted on this site.

Blown calls...missed free throws...out coached.  Really?  Really?  I mean do you have any clue?  As stated above, the game was well reffed.  Carolina does not commit fouls (think they committed the fewest all year).  Not because they get the calls, but because they play soft.  They don't defend hard on the ball - especially from 3 - so many teams they face play an outside in game.  A missed free throw? So we lost because Offutt scored 26 instead of 27 - please.  Be aware UNC left many points at the line.  Out coached?  Yea right.  We get out rebounded by 30 yet are in it at the end because of our bad coaching?  Out coached in OT?  Easy to coach when the other team is not making shots.  Did you see the shot of Roy holding his head in his hands towards the end as we continued to force turn-overs?  Really looked like he was being out coached.  Roy was out coached and it started Monday with the game plan.

Blown calls...missed free throws...out coached.  Really?  Really?
