I don't want to be that guy but I will.  Questionable officiating.  Stats support this.

That's what I thought too; Ohio was flat out gassed as it took them every single ounce of effort they had just to get back into the game.  They either had to win it in regulation or they were done for in OT and I think they knew it.  WHAt AN EFFORT THEY GAVE THOUGH!!!!  This is the most proud of the team I've been the whole post-season.

Couldn't disagree more

when you are altering your shots and contorting your body you aren't going to get calls --- if you taped the game go back and look at the times we got the calls on our drives -- we went straight up to the basket in a regular basketball move fashion.

that's where you will get the calls

Coulda' woulda' shoulda', we can cry over what could have been "but for a free throw" or "but for any of 40 first half shots" but our guys played out of their minds/bodies to get back into this game and give us the chance to win it near the end of regulation.SO prOUd.

I'll say it, we were NOT helped by the refs at all. Fist to the eye, several push-offs that went against us while UNC had no such calls, Zeller's ridiculous flopping, travels not called, etc.  However, the 3 missed bunnies probably killed us more than the refs did.

It was a good season, but it just was not to be tonight.

I disagree.  It was a great night.  The team fought and without their "A" game they gutted out a memorable performance.  This is something to build upon.

This is something to build on of course but this team was good enough to get it done THIS YEAR..no moral victory because honestly this is a whole different game if UNC has Marshall..UNC did not run at all which played to our advantage and they had one guy that everyone knew would carry their scoring burden in the back court..BARNES. I question why did we not run plays for Offut and Kellogg in the end...Ivo taking a long three Cooper taking a few shots on an obvious off nite for him I think Coach Groce got out coached in the end...but hey Roy Williams is a legend. Great season hope everyone remains and with a few big additions we should expect to win the MACC and return next season.

Well you must not have been paying attention to all of the charges we drew by Offutt in particular.  Not to mention the times we had contact with their players when they drove to the basket and the refs called traveling instead of a blocking foul.

I encourage you to re-watch the game.

I encourage you to watch the game again and see how many of those said things they got away with (listen to the crowd.)  What is irrelevant is how many (fouls, violations, etc) were called, rather what they didn't call.

The big guys for UNC would have fouled out in a game officiated by MAC officials.  I guess that I'm just used to fouls being called.   Call me a sore loser if you must, but Zeller could have ripped and eye out and wouldn't have had a foul called against him.

There's no way you can blame the refs on this game.  They may have missed a couple timess where the ball actually tipped off a UNC player, went out of bounds, and they got the ball, but I can remember at least one call that went our way.  It was sometime in the second half when Ivo did a spin move on the baseline and hit a jumper.  It looked pretty clear to me that his foot was on the baseline when he made his move.  Not sure if anyone else saw the same thing.

Anyway, I think the reason we didn't see more fouls called on UNC is because we simply didn't take the ball hard to the basket.  I think our guys let Zeller and Henson affect them a bit too much and they became timid around the rim.  Certainly we're going to get our fair share of shots blocked because Henson and Zeller are both damn good players, but if you take the ball strong to the rim you force the ref to make a call either way.  If you're timid and try to finesse it all the time, the defender usually gets the benefit of the doubt.  You must be agressive at all times to consistently get calls.

Coach Groce got out coached in the end...

You've got to be kidding me.... Groce put on a clinic tonight, and Roy and every coach in the country knows it... We were out rebounded by 33 and had a chance to win at the buzzer... the ONLY way that's possible is coaching... Even when we weren't hitting in the first half we were getting open shot after open shot all because we had a better plan than Carolina... if we had hit shots in the first half like we did in the second we would have won by 10+...

Agreed. Plus there were a couple calls that went our way.  I thought the refs were a big factor in a couple of our games this year but this was not one of them.  With every game there are going to be calls that don't go your way and they stick out because how close th game was but we never remember the calls that went our way.

We lost because

a) Carolina is really good
b) we missed many makeable shots
c) we gave up way too many offensive rebounds
d) Carolina is really good

The only call that irked me was the terrible out of bounds call that Zeller grazed with his fingers before it went out of bounds.  I think they got 2-3 points on that possession and in a game like that it can be the difference maker.  But it happens.

Blown calls...missed free throws...out coached.  Really?  Really?  I mean do you have any clue?  As stated above, the game was well reffed.  Carolina does not commit fouls (think they committed the fewest all year).  Not because they get the calls, but because they play soft.  They don't defend hard on the ball - especially from 3 - so many teams they face play an outside in game.  A missed free throw? So we lost because Offutt scored 26 instead of 27 - please.  Be aware UNC left many points at the line.  Out coached?  Yea right.  We get out rebounded by 30 yet are in it at the end because of our bad coaching?  Out coached in OT?  Easy to coach when the other team is not making shots.  Did you see the shot of Roy holding his head in his hands towards the end as we continued to force turn-overs?  Really looked like he was being out coached.  Roy was out coached and it started Monday with the game plan.

Blown calls...missed free throws...out coached.  Really?  Really?

Yep out coached in the OVERTIME can you read??...looking at a replay right now. No play calls for Offutt or Kellog?? UNC play calls for Barnes I see a few and you see the results.

LOL, you complain about Cooper taking shots on "an obvious off night" and then talk about the brilliance of play calls for Barnes.  Ummmmm, Barnes couldn't hit the broad side of a barn up to that point.  It sucked losing in overtime but it had nothing to do with John Groce being outcoached no matter how much you want it to be.   On a night when our best player was struggling and we were facing an enormous size disadvantage we almost beat a #1 seed BECAUSE of John Groce.

IF I thought Groce was outcoached, which I don't, I would then remind myself he was outcoached by a Hall of Fame coach, and then I would clap for OUr boys some more.
