Armon Gates is at Loyola.
You and borna might appreciate this brief audio clip of the legendary Red Rush calling the last several seconds of Loyola's 1963 OT victory over Cincinnati for the national championship. Though I had rooted for UC the previous two years, in 1963 I was firmly in the Loyola camp, as I had seen them play in Athens earlier in the year and had won a free haircut from my barber on a bet that the Nate Thurmond and Howard Komives-lead BG would give them their first loss of the year. Loyola only lost two games that year -- the aforementioned one to BG and a late season loss to Wichita State. Jim Snyder and George Ireland, the Loyola coach, were good friends and we played the Ramblers quite regularly back in those days. Ok, enough already, here's the clip:
Red Rush.
Here's the whole
Loyola story, with their complete schedule and results for that year. Note that they played Ohio twice that year -- home and away. They did that a number of times in those days. It was a great series.
