technically you're both right, when I said first round I meant the round of 64 which is actually the second round, although it feels weird calling it that.

Ah yes.  Now we're back to discrediting people based on what other teams they may choose to root for.

We are 3 spots behind Michigan.  Could or should they be one behind us?  Sure.  But all the rational people here know exactly why they are not.  They had 5 wins over ranked teams.  We had 1.  Their overall resume for the 2011-2012 season is more impressive than ours.  That is a fact, regardless of how much fun we had in March.

And if you go back and read, I didn't call YOU ignorant, Monroe.  I called your THEORY ignorant.  As for the irrational comment, well I don't really need a poll on the board to know where 95% of the votes would go on that one.  You and OCF seem to think that the NCAA Tournament is the only thing that matters, and let's just give rankings based on what happens from mid-March on.  That is ignorant, and if you cannot see that, I'm gonna go bobcatsquared and just stop trying.

Putz--and I do thank you for making this easy, something that I can do while doing several other things--go back and read your posts.  You directly called me "off my rocker"  and "irrational."  And even if you had typified my posts as being such (instead of me personally), your point is absurd; about everyone else here discusses the argument and leaves the attacking/personal out of it.  Not you, my ohio state-centric friend.

It would be nice...and totally surprising..if you'd intelligently and logically respond to my points, Mr. Non Compos Mentis.  Then again, I realize you are our equivalent of temple's boa person (term 'person' used loosely).

I like that you think UMich being several spots ahead of us is correct.  Even though we beat them head to head when it counted and you posted in this thread that they were a good (favorable) match up for us.  Why don't you run this poll:  How many here think we'd beat Mich pretty consistently if we played again?  I'm betting that at least 60% here would agree.

I get your loose-cannon, no-thinking posts here.  I have a friend who blasts like that.  Oh, wait.  That's our dog Dukey.  Like you, when he blasts everyone leaves the room--ewwww.

I I think we'd beat Michigan consistently? Yes. Do I think we're better than Michigan? No.

I guess my question would be, should Norfolk State and Lehigh be ranked ahead of Missouri and Duke? Of course not.

JSF - I've been with you every step until your last statement.  I do think we are/were a better team.  If you beat someone consistently, you are better.  We would do that with UM, I'd say 6 out of 10.

Monroe was right, we should have locked this thread.

I really wasn't going to say anything more on this thread, but this just takes the cake.  Though you are a very smart person, JSF, this is is not one of the smartest thoughts of your young life.  You want to decide who is "better" based apparently on analysis of talent in some abstract world of talent scouts, rating services, internet sports gurus and the NYT sports page.  To me this is lunacy.  Note, I did not say you were loony, only that this idea of yours is loony.  The better team is decided on the court, and if you play multiple games against an opponent and beat them more often than not that is a better team.  And, of course, you can also become a better team by beating the other team in the Big Dance, but I won't go over all of that again.

Prunes were on the bubble I hear.

According to Bilas, there was quite a movement to prunes, however.

If they had only beaten clementines in the BracketBuster...
Cantalopes would have been ranked higher if they had a better OOC schedule.

Paw Paws were the local favorite, but Tobacco Road was unkind to them.

No, just the numbers. I agree with Ken Pomeroy that head-to-head results are overrated when determining the better or two teams. Too matchup dependent. If we played Michigan's schedule, I don't think we do as well as they did.

I'll play the same game with a different opponent:

Do I think Eastern Michigan would beat us consistently? Yes. Do I think Eastern Michigan is better than us? No.

If you think we're better than Michigan, I take no issue with that. Solely my take.

You can argue who the better team is until the cows come home (from Columbus or Huntington), but there is no argument who won the game.  Give me the W everytime.  Save the arguments for an NCAA football playoff system or MLB salary cap.

I don't believe that Butler received a #2 in 2010 and 2011 when the made the final. Kansas could claim the number 1 poll spot because they played a comparative schedule to Kentucky.

Butler was 2nd in 2011.  http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings/_/year/2011/seasontype/3

Butler was also 2nd in 2010.  http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings/_/year/2010/seasontype/3
