I read today that Weatherspoon and Sibert are transferring from OSU. Would either of these guys contribute here? Offutt did not disappoint.

Sibert to Dayton.  Weatherspoon would be a nice get for us.  Excluding Kadeem Green, we have SIX scholarships (2 now and four next year recruiting cycle) and this would be a good start to reinforce the forward position.

Sibert is already headed to Dayton.  Weatherspoon would be a great piece, but who knows if he has any ties to OUr program.  Walt was recruited by Groce, so it made sense.

I spoke with his dad on Sunday and there was light interest in OU. JD would still like a high major situation.  He has been receiving interest from multiple MAC schools. I pumped up OU as a good spot for JD, but I think JC should make the call!!

Interesting quotes from Weatherspoon and Matta.  JD's Northland teammate goes pro and Matta cuts JD... coincidence?

Christian coached Julian Sullinger for four years, and JS raved about JC when Ohio hired him, so there is a nice relationship to Northland. I think Fuss also knows a lot of the Columbus AAU types. JD might want to go higher, but I think we could make a good push.

So MC is saying that JS raved about JC which might help us with JD.

Got it.

Well, if JDW's attitude is as described by TM do you think JC will really want him?  I'm sure JSF will chime in with the definitive word.

I follow OSU closely as well and he's a pouter no doubt...but he also thinks he was good enough to play...when he did play then he played selfishly which only hurt his situation..

Matta is right about the fresh start....

I don't think JD has an attitude problem at all.  Early last season, he received a decent amount of minutes, and from what I saw, I thought he earned himself 5-7 minutes a game, as he played well, and very hard, when he was on the floor.

Once Big 10 play started, Matta went back to his infamously short-bench, and pretty much played 7-8 guys the rest of the way.  Sibert and JD were the odd-men out.  Looking at next year, JD probably sees that Amir Williams will be hogging the 5 spot, meaning that the 4 (his natural position, at least in the Big 10) will be occupied by Thomas, with Ravenel serving as the primary backup to them both.  His opportunity for PT is almost non-exsistant, as Thomas will probably play 35 minutes a game.

If he's interested in coming to Athens at all, I most certainly listen.  In fact, I hope JC is blowing up his phone.  He'd have to sit out a season, meaning he'd be eligible when we would most certainly need him as we lose Baltic and Keely to graduation.  A front-court of Smith, Greene, and Weatherspoon would be very nice to have.

It's really unfair that he would have to sit out a season when it sounds like his coach told him to basically leave.  I think that if you leave the team mutually (or at the behest of the coach), the one year should be waived.  Why should the player be punished for not being what the coach wants?

IDK, my BFF Rose?

I don't know what Jim is thinking, but I'd take a pass.

I think it would be hard to determine truly who is leaving because they want to leave or because they aren't really wanted anymore. Sure, you could have the coach sign off on it, but I'm sure you'd have coaches who wouldn't be honest one way or the other about it. So the NCAA just makes the rule the same no matter the circumstances (sort of, since there are exceptions granted on a case-by-case basis).

As interpreted by Witherspoon. at least.  Give Matta credit for being straight with the young man.  Sounds like Witherspoon initiated the meeting and maybe a "play me or trade me" conversation ensued.

The college game is becoming too mercenary when you see comments like Mattas. $%&# him.

Nice to see cuts are alive and well at the collegiate level.  I always wondered how the situation with Walt and Thad ended so messy, given that Walt is about the nicest guy ever and as team-oriented and hard working as you'll find.  This perhaps shed some light on that situation.

I'm all for giving out four-year scholarships. I think it would be a fantastic move for the NCAA. And much more leeway for transfers at schools where coaches head for greener pastures. Yeah, that might've hurt Ohio this year, but I think it's the only way to even out the leverage colleges currently have over their revenue streams...err, players.

Hey unpaid kid, how am I supposed to keep getting paid millions per year (and feeding my massive ego) with that kind of effort?! Hit the road!

I'm sure Steve Hays does the same thing to his PhD students that aren't publishing at the desired clip.

We're discussing student-athletes that could or could not help out OUr team.  What 'other places' do you have in mind for this conversation?  Thanks for the insight on the topic at hand though.  It was very well thought out and added a lot to this thread . . .

Correction:  The correct address is your US Congressman or Senator.  Read up on what Wisconsin is doing to the kid from Iowa who wants to transfer.  That should not be legal in the United States.

Yeah, subtle is not your strong suit.  There's no place here for columbus-centric.  If you need help figuring that out, pm me at noonecares#brutusgottossed.

If you want to be a dick to people, fine, but do it based on what they say, not who they are. Nothing in this thread was tOSU slanted. God forbid we get insight about a potential transfer target from someone with some insight.

Congrats on making this board a more hostile place for no good reason.
