There was no press conference. There was no plane. None of this actually happened. You were dreaming.

There is no spoon.

^ Almost posted the same thing.

I'm so lost. Was that twin peaks or mulholland drive?

The Matrix

Coincidentally, also Groce's current location.

Is there even a "Blue Hen Nation"?

There totally is, though they're more interested in football and women's basketball as of late.

I think the Log Lady might be running the University of Illinois right now, though.

Here's to hoping this entire thing was the genius work of the mastermind that is John Groce.  All this attention would be sure to land Ohio in the top 25 when he announces that he is spurning the Illinois gig, and within minutes AT&T, Nike, and Anheuser Busch sign on as official sponsors of the 2012-2013 version of 'All-In' on STO, which immediately leads to an influx of $1M per episdoe into the Ohio Basketball coffers . . .

OT: Anyone notice the upgrades to www.OhioBobcats.com?  Don't think it is a coincidence since OzCat posted he never saw OBC button on the homepage.

Wow that is a serious firestorm over there. You have to be a little bit crazy to take that job, and maybe Groce is a little bit crazy...or just confident.

I think it is time Ohio had it own press conference, with the AD, President, and Board standing as one saying they support John Groce and thank him for what he has done....not that I think it will keep him, but it would be fun to see the reaction from Illinois fans, media, etc. :)

Ohio should try to get a little PR from this mess.

In the background they could run highlights from the 10/14/06 football game in Champaign.

Does anyone know where he is?  If he is in Illinois and the flight to bring him back here (presumably to give notice to the team) is cancelled. That would mean he is part of the process trying to close the deal.

If he is here and the AD is in Illinois trying to either hold the deal together or walk away from it - but Groce is not at his side - that may bode well.

Lot of tea laves, but where is he?  Any intelligent guesses?

I'm hoping he and his family are enjoying some downtime on a beach somewhere, iced drink in one hand, smart phone with ~25 fake twitter handles in the other, giggling to himself at the havoc he hath wrought.

Tom Hodson reports via twitter that another flight will arrive in Columbus from Champaign at 5:19. No indication if it is a dropoff or pickup flight.

Maybe he knows what might not be back?  The team kinda imploded after Georgetown...never know what could happen with players we assume will suit up next year.  Also, if the new APR Rule goes into effect, Ohio might not be eligible for the NCAA tournament:

"The NCAA is raising its APR standard next season to demand a 50% graduation rate for schools to qualify for the men's and women's tournaments. If this rule were in effect this year, the following schools would not be playing in the men's tournament: defending national champion Connecticut, Syracuse, Florida State, Indiana, Southern Mississippi, Saint Louis, Colorado, Colorado State, Mississippi Valley State, New Mexico State, Norfolk State, Ohio and St. Bonaventure."

Looks like this one.

It also looks like there is no return flight scheduled, so probably a dropoff, but who knows at this point.

Is our APR really that bad? Or is this mostly because of a couple bad eggs?

For some reason, I don't think that's Groce's plane.  Here is the type of plane that one is.

On the other hand, that would be sweet to fly on one of them.

According to this thread - Groce has been flying through the air for past 29 hours - maybe he is in Dubai

According to the Tribude:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/chi-sources-...

Groce is here.  Flight to retrieve him was cancelled when BOT got involved:

"According to a source, a flight that was scheduled to leave Champaign for the Ohio University airport in Athens, Ohio, to retrieve Groce on Tuesday was cancelled when board of trustee members got involved in the hiring process.

James Montgomery, a board member who voted against Beckman's contract, said he did not know of any board members' displeasure at the potential hiring of Groce.

"As far as I'm concerned whoever they chose it is their prerogative and their choice," Montgomery told the Tribune on Tuesday. "I was told there would be an open process and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt."

He said he is not familiar with Groce's background and could not comment on whether he would give his approval.

"I don't really want to tell you how I would vote," he said. "I don't know anything about this coach other than what I read. It suggested to me that they're looking at second-tier coaches rather than the top dogs that turned them down for one reason or another."

HA! That's funny. We're still fighting the Cold War apparently, getting freaked out when Russian planes enter our airspace.

That's a very verbose way for Montgomery to say that he's not happy because John Groce isn't black enough.

If I were advising Coach Groce, I would encourage him to consider declaring himself removed from the Illinois candidate pool. This sounds like a board of trustees fiasco, and it also sounds like they are not very impressed with Groce's background. It might serve him well to give Illinois the proverbial middle finger and walk away.

Doesn't sound like s ringing endorsement for AD Thomas to me. Really BOT? Calling the new coach you're about to pay millions to 2nd tier?
