Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports has posted an updated list of players who have decided to transfer to another school.  Here are the ones affecting MAC schools:

That list doesn't currently seem to be very big.  We'll see if it expands in the weeks/months ahead.

Attrition through transfer is epidemic in college hoops.

I've sometimes wondered why more kids didn't go to Hawaii when they had an athletic opportunity there. To get college, room and board paid there for four years sounds too good to pass up. But I suppose traveling back and forth would be a pretty big expense and would be tough for family.

I continue to talk about this list growing year after year. We are only one week after the NCAA final and we have 51 more kids transferring than the same time last year that had more than the year before........

We/I talk to kids about the importance of finding a school where you love being because the players and caoches who recruit you may not be there at the end of your day.....

This is not good and is problematic to Universities, players and programs. The culture of kids is different today and finding the matches for the kids  have to be considered if a kid is to be successful and [programs are to build continuity.

It is sad commentary that Good man has coaches asking him at the final four for a copy of his list

Saw that as well.  Does Goard leaving open the possibility of adding another player for next year?

Walk-ons don't count. You get 13 scholarship players. McKinley, Goff, Belton are extras.

borna--any thoughts on the success of those who transfer.  My (rather baseless..just intuition) thought is that those who xfer rarely are heard from again.  Might be that those who transfer do so because of a higher-than-objectively-true estimation of their own talent, with that over-estimation meeting reality/no greater success elsewhere.

Some of our biggest stars have been transfers.  Geter, LaDrell, Stonerook, Sanderson, Bubba, Orr, Bassett, Smith, Walter and Geoff have been solid contributors.  The only loss was the one to Miami which brought in TOS.  Kadeem may prove to be just as strong.    

In football transfers Hawk and Bower were the start of our improved QB play.

You are gonna see ROtnei Clarke positively light it up this year at Butler. Brandon Wood was a transfer from Valpo that we saw the last couple of years to Mich ST via Dane Fife that was brought in to shore up the locker room in light of the defections following the exodus after the FInal FOur run...he ended up playing big minutes and contributing to the late season surge...I remember Pelphrey's bunch at USA making the tourney with a dearth of tranfers. Taylor King left DDuke and bounced around  but never really fulfilled his AAU prejected legacy OTOH Herb Pope went back east and had a pretty solid career. THe list goes on back and forth...

I think you are right in having the feeling that a lot of them are passed over and never do get a ton of run but I feel like just as many see the floor and contribute mightily to their new programs. Frankie Dobbs has been contributing at Bryant since leaving Ohio. We have had some very successful transfers at Ohio. Bubba was a good get from Akron....but I do not think many who have left here have had that much success....especially at the D1 level.

My big problem is *and I hate to keep harping on this* is trying to get kids and handlers/parents to choose a school where the kid wants to play that is going to get him the education he needs. the very elite players are always gonna have a reason to leave a school if this or that does not happen but out of 341 division one schools that give 3 or 4 schollies a year having over 300 of those kids tranferring in addition to the ones who drop out, are removed from the team for other reasons.....we are just not doing these kids much justice not walking them through the good and bad in the recruitment process and getting better marriages of players to programs.

I would think that with our Sports Admin program we would be a very attractive place for players to consider for a one-year transfer (if they have already graduated) like when we acquired the football kicker from Washington.

Consider that we are gonna be the preseason favorite to win the MAC and pehaps be a top 25 team next year with deep run in NCAA perhaps return to sweetsixteen, elite eight or final four. Its important to have the right chemistry. My guess is Ohio goes the high school route with the last spot. Probably an athletic forward in the same mold as TJ Hall who fits in at multiple positions and gives the coach lots of options.  Kent State had lots of guys like that when Christian was there.

Going back several decades, Ulice Payne played here his freshman year then transferred to Marquette where he became the sixth man on their 1977 national championship team.  Going from Jim Snyder to Al McGuire -- a cultural shock no doubt, but it worked out well for him.

73, didn't Payne transfer in the context of Snyder's retirement?

As a "so-what" aside, one of Payne's high school teammates was Joe Montana.

I love what we did this year.  But to assume Sweet16 next year is a lot.

And getting to the 8 and 4 is a whole 'nother level.  I've argued staunchly that we should've ended up the year rater higher than 25.  But I realize that eliteness and, absolutely, Final4 are a great, great step beyond 16.

I hope we can do it.  It would be crazy.  But we gotta recognize how tough that is.

73, boy you bring back bad memories . . . the Payne transfer was painful and marked the end of an era.  Cat4ever, it's very hard to figure out cause and effect in the Payne-Snyder thing.  I was told at the time that Snyder retired because he was very frustrated with the attitudes of the elite players that he was finally able to recruit because of the great success his teams were having.  Apparently, Payne and a few others (Slappy, etc.) were in the first wave of the modern prima donna, cry-baby athletes and Gentleman Jim after successfully recruiting them couldn't stand their attitudes and decided he'd had enough.  His great skill prior to this was spotting the "under the radar" talented kid with great motivation that he would "coach up" and make into a great player.  Those that arrived thinking they were God's gift to the athletic world were not his cup of tea.   Now, there were some exceptions -- Mike Haley, of the '64 Elite 8 team -- was heavily recruited, but he was not a prima donna kid.  He was a hardworking Southeastern Ohio guy who was very coachable.  It wasn't until that last year or so, though, that Snyder was able to recruit multiple high-profile recruits at the same time.  It was a great irony that his great success lead to his downfall and decision to retire a little earlier than he had originally plan.  At least that's the story as I heard it back in the day.
