When walked on the court for the first time, I said to myself he could be another Nick Van Exel type.  He plays good defense but to make it in the NBA, DJ should come back, work on his shot and decision making and see what comes next year if he can help take us deep in the tourney again.  IMHO, he is NOT NBA reday now.

I congratulate myself, on behalf of both of us, for not wasting time reading this overblown, 100% useless thread.  What button do I press to take the 'net and silliness such as twitting away from most of you.  Read a book, say something nice to someone, get some exercise; you must have something better to do than going on about nothing, participating in endless baseless conjecture.

I believe if you read back through this thread (which I don't recommend), you'll find me calling this whole thing a "tempest in a teapot."  I hereby congratulate myself for having had the most intelligent post in the thread.  It's not often I get to one-up Monroe!

"When asked if DJ was contemplating transferring, Mrs. Cooper responded, "No. That was never even a conversation." -- Put that in your pipe and smoke it, blitzkriegman!

Yeah because parents ALWAYS KNOW what their kids are doing at college...right...?? NO
With that said I like Christians comments and news conference..I think this team may remain intact. He could easily have railed against any comparisons to Groce or the past team's style of play. Those comments and whatever he told the team has won them over for now.

Sure such as things like partying, and the occasional bad grade parents might not know "everything" but a LIFE CHANGING decision such as transferring or going pro. Yeah I'm sure D.J. would keep his mother in the dark yeah that makes sense. I know that if I was every thinking about transferring (current student at OU) the first people I would consult would be my parents. How logical do you think it would be for anybody, not just DJ, to keep their parents in the dark, and when they called asking how school was going the student would be like "it's going good, I go to Eastern Michigan now..." Yeah I see that logic I totally understand your view point.

(Sarcasm meter at 100 %)

If you don't know what your kids are doing at college, you are either completely ignorant or delusional.

So you question if Mrs. Cooper (or any parent) has a real clue regarding her son's intentions, but you put full faith and stock in, "someone online associated with athletics."

I'm not saying it is the same, but Groce said pretty much the same stuff before he split.

Let me see the roster when practice starts next season, then I will start to see what this team can do.

I met both of DJ's parents and his grandfather up in Cleveland, and again in Nashville.  I can promise you that his family support is nothing like Bassett or Coleman's.  They are behind him 100%, and they couldn't be any nicer.  It's great to what a family support system can do for a player coming into his own.

One of the thngs that Groce brought with his attitude toward recruiting guy who are used to winning and from programs that teaches that is his commitment to getting on the recruiting trail and recruiting families. With a strong support system that does not rely on "handlers" and family systems looking for pie inthe sky promises a la Will Thomas he ensured that program guys and their support systems will weather the storms that surround college life and basketball.

The families that surround these guys are fantastic. Coops, McKinleys, Kelloggs, Taylors, Baltics, Offuts, Keelys and the rest are all families that are strong and present in thier kids daily lives away from basketball AND in the stands. Lovely people that I am proud to associate with.......

When I met you in Nashville we discussed this.  I certainly hope that JC will adopt this approach moving forward as well.  It seems to have worked extremely well.

Without jacking the thread but a little bit of digression for 695 and those with young kids....

As far as DJ going to the NBA when done with college, it's not so farfetched I think. They've just announced on a local sports radio show that Trey Burke is declaring for the draft. I thought DJ played just as well as Burke in the NCAAs. Now, one could argue that Burke's ceiling is higher and that might be true. But with hard work this off-season and a banner year (at Ohio!) next year, I don't see why DJ can't get at least get an invite to an NBA team if not outrightly drafted by someone.

I think it would be wise for DJ to put his name in and get evaluated by NBA scouts.  That way, he can get insight from the NBA talent evaluators on what he needs to improve on in order to make it to the next level.  If he wants to be more than a 2nd round pick, he's going to have to continue to get stronger and add a little more bulk, as well as improve his jumper and his 3-point stroke among other things.  Simply put, no 5-11 PG will get drafted shooting 35% from the floor.  He'd be wise to hear what the scouts have to say, but it'd greatly benefit him to work on his game if he hopes to not just be a training camp body.

He would have had a higher precentage if he didn't take such crazy shots.  Yes some went in, but hell I hit some of those too when I was goofing around at Ping.

Yeah, that's the same as hitting them against Michigan, USF and UNC.  DJ shot 14-32 from three in the four games leading up to the UNC game.  Are we really comparing Ping to this?
