I found it funny that a team like Marshall received votes before we did. Not going to worry too much about this. We have a very good basketball team. One that I believe will be ranked before the conference season begins if not earlier.

Who's the MAC representative on the panel?  Dambrot?

Yes, Dambrot is the MAC rep. I guess I would second guess voting for a team that kept me out of the NCAA tournament 2 out of the last 3 years as well.

Chuck Landon is laughing somewhere.

Not to worry.  This is nothing to worry about.

I'm interested to see what kind of poll the guys in Vegas would come up with if they were to construct a Top 25. My guess is it would be a little more accurate than the stuff we get now. I know they gave us a 100-1 shot of winning the National Title, but having them come out with some type of Power Rankings would be beneficial too.

Man everyone is really selling the Ohio stock because of John Groce.

Coaches I would have thought we would get some love from that are included in the poll:

Dambrot - Akron
Ben Jacobson - Northern Iowa
Andrew Toole - Robert Morris

Something about the way the games have gone the last few years with Akron tells me that if the voters could vote all D1 teams, Dambrot would vote us dead last.

I'd vote Dambrot slightly ahead of Alex Abreu as far as individuals I lack respect for.

Dambrot is neck and neck with Calipari.

seriously, we can argue the merits of a top 25 in football but not being one of 46 teams to get a vote in bball preseason?? What the efffff.

related note- I feel sorry for Portland, they bout to get run out the Convo.

Every team hates being disrespected, but I feel like this team hates it more than most.

Portland could be in HUGE trouble.  Our crowd was already going to be insane, now our team has even more of a reason to play with a killer instinct.

agree with optimist...a great motivational tool has landed in christian's lap!  Either way, by the end of December no one will care about any preseason ranking....

To the contrary, I believe this IS something to worry about, especially with the big picture. To not even garner ONE SINGLE vote tells me how much disrespect the MAC as a whole gets. It's a complete slap in the face to everything Ohio has accomplished, especially since we are essentially returning every player from last year.

This tells you what odds anyone in the MAC is always up against when trying to get more than one bid.

Remember, this doesn't mean we're not in the top 40. The votes only go to 25, so for all we know, Ohio is a consensus #27.

I understand what you are saying...But to not get 1 single vote implies we aren't in many voters top 40.

How did Michigan do in their last game?

We're out of eye-patches, anyway. Under the radar is a nice place to start.

Here are a few reasons why I am not worried.

1. This is basketball. Unlike the football preseason top 25 this will not hurt us later in the year.

2. It is the coaches poll. The media is much more aware of what OHIO is capable of this season.

3. Like some have said before, this will only drive our players to play better.

I know we would all love to see our bobcats ranked or at least shown some love but that will come with time. I am just really excited about the season. It is going to be a memorable one.

I actually disagree a bit on this. If you start out in the minds of the voters, you tend to have a much easier time earning additional respect and votes and that goes both ways. If you lose a game, you may not lose everything.

Starting with nothing, we will have to work hard just to START getting noticed again.

I definitely didn't expect to be ranked but I also didn't expect every single voting member to COMPLETELY forget/ignore last season's accomplishments, especially given the fact that just about everyone is returning. That alone should have garnered SOME votes. I view it as a huge slap in the face to not only Ohio but the MAC as a whole.

If we belong there we will have plenty of opportunity to get there as the season progresses.

I don't think that implies that at all. If you extended the ballot to 40, we'd be there.

You're right. It only shows that none of the 31 coaches that voted thought we were a top 25 team. Lets just wait until the media poll comes out. There have been a few writers who questioned how Ohio received no votes in the preseason coaches poll.

I don't get everyone's obsession with pre-season polls.  They mean nothing.  I'll take a "no-ranking" in October as long as there's a semi-deep to deep tourney-run in March.  In fact, I think its good to be "in the weeds" in October.  Its a long season.  As the victories mount the Cats will climb the polls.
