We've got to stop this ugly arguing about which will be rated higher OHIO BASKETBALL or OHIO FOOTBALL.

Please, please, please remember that we're all on the same side.

Must you be a total ass all of the time; do you get no time off?

What purpose is served by your constant, stupd carping against my posts.

Ahhh, the monthly friendly debate between monroe and (fill-in-the-blank). Always entertaining and good for a laugh (especially when the "fill-in-the-blank" isn't me).

With all due respect, your message did seem as though you were replying to a long blood bath of a thread arguing over which is better...when the topic wasn't even brought up (at least here).

I guess you didn't "remember that we're all on the same side" like you pleaded with us all just moments before.

Okay, Stupid...and that pejorative is appropriate where, as here, one intentionally shows lack of thought...let me lay it out for you.  You could have responded 1) by ignoring my post/not responding, 2) showing some ability to reason and, thus, agreeing or disagreeing in the customary-on-this-board civil mannerin.  But you chose 3) your usual carping at me way:  'Apparently you are the only one...'

Sure, you do it to get your jollies.  And it's so transparent; we don't need to see you do it or to have you tell us you do it to provoke/be an ass.   It's obvious.

Now, am I the only one thinking about this?  Well, JSF posted about how football gets a log of attention and it's fun but has different consquences for hoops.  The 'like Boise' thread on football notes that Boise's not a hoops school, and The Optimist posts in the Joan football that 'we are a basketball school.'  Plus anyone with capacity for thought beyond the literal and a sense of humor would appreciate that with football and hoops being so on track we might have to consider that we are no longer just a basketball school.

I get it.  You won't understand this at all.  So, why don't you go to you local getacluestopbeingatotalass store and ask them to give you a clue.

How you can make posts like these and then claim that I'm the stupid one who posts for jollies is beyond me.

I'd also love to hear from anyone, either in a response on this thread in public or in a PM, if they actually agree with you in regards to your post.

There was nothing resembling ugly arguing in any of your examples. Please call me more names an belittle me though.

Maybe I am alone on this but I read it as sort of a joke.  Like "Man we need to stop talking about whether the fact we are rich or good looking is better."

As in, if we are having these arguments, both must be pretty darn good.

We are a basketball school.  That doesn't mean we can't be good in football, but the basketball program is light years ahead of football.  The Convo is better than Peden and our fanbase is stronger in hoops.  College football is more popular than college basketball, but relative to that popularity the majority of our success has been hoops related.

I realize it's apples to oranges, but I have a hard time believing that our "fanbase is stronger in hoops". We just had our record football crowd of 25K. Last year we got 13K in for a basketball game, but even that was a stretch.

Average crowds are ~20K for football and ~6K for basketball. I know there's other factors like size of venue, number of games, etc....but how do you justify a "stronger fanbase" for basketball? The numbers don't bare it out IMO.

Because it's all relative. Kentucky, Duke and UNC football outdraws their basketball teams by wide margins but do you really consider any of them to be a football school?  We lead the MAC in basketball attendance every year, most years by a lot.  We typically aren't the football attendance leader.

20 home basketball dates at 6k vs 6 home football dates at 20 k.

Its a wash.

But the fact is the Convo can pass for a high-major basketball facility. Peden Stadium has a long way to go.

As I said in my 1st post.  College football is more popular in college basketball.  There is no comparison between our Convo crowds vs the rest of college basketball and our Peden crowds vs the rest of college football.

Relatively, the numbers don't bare out.  It is clearly basketball.

Isn't it ironic tat Monroe's original plea to not debate the football/basketball thing let to debating the football/basketball thing?

Its a great day to be a BOBCAT!!!!!!!!!

On another note, Myron Medcalf at ESPN had a short little comment about Ohio.

Dave (East Lansing, MI)

Myron, no disrespect to you, but Michigan a higher ceiling than MSU? The last time we saw UMich, they were laying an egg against Ohio.

Myron Medcalf
  (2:48 PM)

One man's opinion. And that's the same Ohio team that nearly upset a North Carolina squad with three first round picks.

And I thought you were an Optimist!

I know that the following has to do with seasonality (football is in season, basketball isn't) but I don't think it used to be like this:  the post count here is about 41k for football and 33k for basketball.

I know; consider the source.  Not me, that is...us.

Once again...you can't just compare straight numbers...Football is way more popular than Basketball in America...to compare attendance figures or post counts on message boards are not good measures on whether a school is a football school or basketball school.

I would consider OSU a football school yet they are still in the National Championship race for hoops... This is my view on Bobcats athletics, except reversed.  National Championships and BCS Bowls.
