39th. Only gained 1 more vote, up to 8 votes overall. These next 3 games is where we can really make a big jump in the polls. A lotta voters missing out on the Bobcat bandwagon.

inb4 polls don't matter
inb4 I want to stay under the radar.

Anyone who think we're under the radar is dreaming anyway.

Drilling four patsies gave us the amount of attention we deserve (none), but the Richmond win raised some eyebrows. Saw mentions by John Gasaway and Seth Davis Sunday morning. Wouldn't surprise me if I missed another.

Win the next 4 and I think we're ranked. At that point, we would be 9-0 with a tough road win @ Memphis. Not a lot of teams left undefeated at that point.

Beat Memphis.  People would notice plenty then.  That'd be a great W to have in OUr pocket.

If you're one of those people who still can't figure out why Groce would ever leave Athens for Champaign, look at where they're ranked.

I believe OUr boys would have the same record as the Illini against that schedule, but I doubt we'd get as much notice either

If you think we are the 25th best team in the nation, 39 is not under the radar.  If you think we are a top 10 team, 39 is under the radar.

I could name plenty of teams ranked highly who have done less this season to prove their worth than we have.  All of this schools are higher profile to start than we are though...

We'll get there.

What would help this situation is if someone like Seth Davis or Jeff Goodman write a feature on undefeated OHIO playing Memphis....talking about how this is a statement game. However, have to win these next 2 difficult games to get there.

Lose to Memphis and I think OHIO will have to rip off a minimum of 10 straight wins to sniff the Top 25.

Three AP voters putting us in the Top 25.

Mark Berman of The Roanoke Times has us at #20.
Elton Alexander has us at #25.
John Feinstein has us at #25. He's the only change from last week.

Obviously the Richmond win didn't do much for us at all either. We garnered a whopping ONE additional vote.

This is what frustrates me to no end. I thought Ohio had done something last year to RAISE their profile with these voters. They go 29-8, get to the sweet 16(almost elite 8), finish the season at #25 AND return just about the ENTIRE team yet we are all but forgotten about come the start of next season. It seems like it takes a TON of effort for a team like Ohio to even move inches in the polls, yet other teams it takes next to nothing to move leaps and bounds.

Seems like it takes several NCAA tourney appearances for mid-majors to get recognized.

Yes but we are still in the MAC, so even if they know our name and what we did last year they will wait until they see wins that really impress them.  So I am really looking forward to these St. Bonnie and Memphis games to put us on the map for this year.  Because once you are in, its way easier to stay in the top 25 or get back in it once you are in the voters consciousness.

I will continue to advise patience. Things will take care of themselves if the team gets things done. Reality is that we don't have a top 25 resume yet. We have four wins over bad teams and one win over a decent team. There are still more than 25 unbeaten teams and you'd be hard-pressed to convince me a one-loss Louisville (among others) doesn't deserve a spot in the polls.

Once you're in it is definitely easier to stay - and consistency is what gets you ranked early in the season.

Memphis isn't as good of a win as it would've been a week and a half ago, but would still be a statement road win.

Just another case in point that if OHIO's goal is to "go to the next level" as we've been hearing, you must:

1.  Somehow get yourself out of the MAC.  The only way you can be a Sweet 16 team, return everyone, be 5-0 and only get 10 votes is to be in a MAC type conference.
2.  If you can't get out of the MAC and know you'll be buried in MAC obscurity effective October 9th--you must go out and play a schedule that gives you a chance to get noticed, especially if you return this kind of team.  This "safe" schedule can get you there, but it'll be a slow grind with little room for error.
3.  Win and win a lot.

I hope we don't get recognized, I rather be in the 30's throughout the majority of the year and surprise everyone.

Ozcat is right tho and this shows my exact issue/frustration.

The Illini, who haven't done all that much more than we have(almost losing to Gardner-Webb... 1 point... at home on Sunday), easily jump into the top 25 even tho they had ZERO(0) votes JUST LAST WEEK.

I think most people understand why Groce left for Illinois.

It doesn't matter now where Memphis stands. It will only matter in March and by then I have a feelilng they will be in much better standing.

Gonzaga is in the mighty West Coast Conference, along with the Portland Pilots. I'm not saying we're Gonzaga, but it's clearly possible to do great things in any conference, provided you win, consistently make the tournament, and consistently make noise in the tournament. No one cares about Gonzaga's conference.

WCC also has BYU and St. Mary's. San Diego had a strong run a few years ago, too. Maybe not the best comparison.

It's not the worst either. They're not too far from the MAC, and we know what the NIUs of the world do to the MAC's ranking.

Edit: That was an old example. Sorry. Maybe it wasn't the best comparison, but I still stand by my point that a team can rise, Boise State football style, above its conference with consistent excellence.
