I'm thinking JG gave DJ a lot of freedom last year (or two).

I'm hoping JC reins him in some this year.

Is our offense not working because DJ takes too many 3s, or is DJ taking too many 3s because our offense isn't working? It wasn't like things were running smooth and Coop started hoisting.

RM made 12 threes, Ohio made 13. RM made 10 twos, Ohio made 12. RM won because they out scored Ohio at the foul line 28-13. Just way too many fouls.

meh.. He's shot 8, 8, and 9 threes the last three games coincidently against our three best opponents.... The tougher the opponent the more he takes on and force or settles...the point is there are better shooters on the floor and he's so good at creating that he/we are better served if he'd take on that role consistently instead of forcing....

Been to two games in the Convo and watched all other home games on webcast (not sure if that qualifies me). I'll stand by my original post.

I stand by Jeff's observations that DJ has been MUCH improved in all the described areas so far this year (distribution first/shot 2nd; less frequent illadvised 3 point bombs, etc...).  Tonight, DJ looked somewhat like "old DJ".  Not sure if he regressed to his old habits, or if he just got in desperation mode and was trying to make something happen.  He's stuck the dagger in teams hearts dating back to the end of last season with some shots that if they wouldn't have gone in would've been bad shots and I think he was just trying to make something happen on a night when a lot of stuff wasn't going right.  I give him a pass tonight and he's been very good as of late. 

We have NO INSIDE GAME. NONE. ZERO. Somebody ends up having to chuck up something...............................

We used to have a little bit of any inside game, but now:

1.  Ivo's turned into a jump shooter and I can't remember the last time he shot a free throw;
2.  Reggie is the only version of a post up player we have on the roster, but doesn't get to play any more; and
3.  Jon Smith don't do offensive. 

Sorry that it has come to this but:

1. Ivo used to have an "around, up and under move" - what happened to that? And "3's" - Plural? Really? For a game, or the season so far? 
2. "Reggie", and "Post Up" don't seem to belong in the same sentence.
3. Jon needs to "do offensive rebounding". That of course requires going to the basket quicker and getting into position after a shot.

So - 4 on the perimeter is where we want to go - ????????????? I have been to every game. His shot, if from the perimeter, "looks like" we could not get the shot we really wanted, or, the shot we should have been able to get from OUr offense....................... 

Ivo's a confusing player.  Make what you will of these random observations:

1.  Ivo used to be very effective and crafty around the basket.
2.  Ivo used to go to the line quite a bit.
3.  We have a shortage of inside options and it would be nice to have Ivo as one.
4.  Ivo can go to the basket effectively against smaller competition, but cannot against bigger teams/players.  Against physical players/teams he used to settle for fade away's and low percentage shots.
5.  Ivo's outside shot appears much improved this year.
6.  Ivo appears to be passing out of the post and double teams much better than years past when it was dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble--black hole.
7.  We're a much better team when Ivo's involved, but you never know game-to-game what you're going to get from him.

Ivo's a senior and I still don't know what his game is.  I have a like/dislike relationship with his game.  When he's going, I like him.  When he's not, he frustrates me to no end.   This sounds like a typical fan, but I only have this type of relationship from time-to-time with DJ. 

I could be wrong but I think it is now 15, yes FIFTEEN, games and counting dating back to last year since Ivo has been at the foul line. I think he transformed his game about mid-year last year when he had so much trouble at the foul line. No question he has gone from attacking the basket to taking the 10ft and longer jump shots.

Between Jon, Ivo and Reggie last nite that trio attempted 4 foul shots. All taken by Reggie  and 2 were made.

I was at the game. Yea DJ took a couple of ill-advised 3's. DJ did not lose that game for OHIO last nite. He put that team on his back and kept them within striking distance with a gutty 2nd half performance.

We need far more consistentcy and performance from our "inside" game. The lack of it last nite was what led to the amount of 3's being taken.

Anderson had one of those games you dream about as a kid and he had that ONCE in a lifetime performance. He hit a couple of those 3's late in shot clocks with either Nick or Walt in his face. If the kid would have gone 4 for 8 instead of 8 for 8 we win that game.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette writer that covered the game gave a kudo's to the OHIO Contingent that filled 2 bleachers of fans. It was a very, very impressive turn-out.
