They are having a Toys for Tots collection at the game. Free admission if you bring an unwrapped toy.

Also, join the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter for pre-game food and drinks from 5-6:30 at the Ground Round across the street from the arena.

Sounds like it won't take a lot of Bobcats to make a difference in the crowd - only a gym of 3,500. I'm pretty excited for this game - and we need to enact some serious revenge on these guys after 3 straight L's. Beat Bobby Mo!

Good luck. I would offer but I am to and fro Columbus, and going for the whole weekend.

Our seniors are 0-3 against this school. I'm sure they want to change that for the better.

828: Someone was offering a ride earlier, if you can find their thread.

Just read the RMU thread on the game.  They do not believe we are a defensive team.

They also mentioned RMU is the best competition we've faced. I think Richmond is the better team, but this is the tougher matchup since its on the road.  Really hope we can finally beat these guys.  Last years game was miserable.

Robert Morris owns Ohio.  Gotta change this big time.

What do all the stats tell you JSF ?

I predict the spread will be 6-8 in our favor.

This is going to be a tough game.  Their defense last year never let us get into a rhythm and they are tough at home.  They aren't big but they pound the boards. I believe they killed us on the boards last year.

Yeah, they have had some solid home wins and some ugly road losses.  I will breathe a big sigh of relief Saturday night if we get past these guys.

What sticks out in my mind the most about last year's RMU win over Ohio in Athens is that RMU had an incredible number of turnovers but still won.  I think they had close to 30 turnovers.  How you can have that many and win is mind boggling.  I think they out-toughed us on the boards and we didn't execute well against their defense.

As for small NEC gyms...I remember when Pete Chouteau and I met up in the mountains of central Pennsylvania for a game vs. St. Francis in their "high school gym."  It was Leon Williams' first game as a freshman.  St. Francis found a way to beat us that night.  IMO, we need to forget about the size of the gym, whether it looks like a HS gym, etc.  Upper division teams in these low major conferences play good basketball, especially at home.  The size of the gym doesn't matter, really.

Their home wins over BGSU and Cleveland State worry me.

Small gyms with nice big reflective glazed cinder block walls and good acoustics can get mighty mighty loud

Robert Morris is in the bottom half nationally in defensive efficiency (0.98 D-PPP) and offensive (0.923). They're a terrible shooting team (37.1% from the floor, 42.5% eFG). They turn opponents over at a decent rate (23%) but give it up almost the same amount (22%). Their main strength is rebounding. They get 35.4% of their misses and 71.9% of opponents'.

So they appear to play to some of our strengths (e.g., turning the ball over, poor shooters - lead to fast breaks).

To over simplify - sounds like we need to apply defensive pressure and box out - basic hustle game.

For this game, what stat do you look at first at the end of the half (besides the score)?

If we shoot 45% and get 70% of their misses, we're in excellent shape.

I live about 20 miles away from RMU. Have a bunch of fellow alumni coming in for the weekend but I don't know how many and who will still be committed come Saturday so I can't get tickets yet. We may walk up with about 8 guys if it is not sold out come game time.

I have been to 2 Robert Morris/OHIO games through the years. Of course, lost both...including an OT thriller Trent's Freshman year.

Pittsburgh has a great OHIO alumni base and it sounds like to me we'll have many on hand for the game.

Be loud ladies and gentlemen...makes a big difference in a band-box like RMU.

BG might win two games on the road this year. They suck. Cleveland State is a better win, but we're better than the Vikings.

Truth be told, I love watching games in those "small" gyms, especially at the time of conference tourneys.  The crowds are usually somewhere between insanity and pandemonium.  A lot of fun to watch.

As to the game, it's one that we should win, but RMU has our number and we can't get careless.
