Just checked out the NIU board and the game is not exactly their main focus.  The only basketball related post I saw was someone asking if any football recruits were at the basketball game.

I did a while ago too - hard to find ANYTHING BBall..............

There's one thread on there now. Basically just discussing whether or not it will be a blowout. Unless we shoot lights out (which happened once or twice this year), it probably will be. It's not only 3s we can't make, it's most shots. Even wide open shots. Otherwise the team has gotten a little better. Not much.

Do you think there's light at the end of the tunnel NIU under the current coaching staff?

I'm optimistic the team will improve with the current coaching staff, maybe to a mid-level MAC team in the next couple years. The last 2 years, we lost some of our best players to transfer or to getting kicked off the team, which put us back to square one. So far, we haven't had that this year, and the team is playing more, well, like a team. Lots of playing time for the backups.

So we mostly haven't been getting blown out, we were within 6 against Akron briefly in the second half before they pulled away. We just don't make enough shots (same as last year) and I don't know if we have the players yet.  We've had somewhat fewer turnovers I believe, even with freshmen playing, and free throw shooting is a little better but still not good enough.

Maybe we should start posting on their boards and try and get some bball discussion going.

Talking about football recruiting during basketball season more than hoops? That's Almost O$U esque.

We have 3 wins, only 2 against Div-I teams.  Not too surprising.  Please don't compare us to O$U. It makes me hurl.

There is already an enormous line of students outside of the Convo waiting to get in. Should be a great crowd!

No worries.  I was rooting for your guys in that Orange Bowl, and MAC-proud they pushed FSU as much as they did.  Still, I'll never get the interest in football recruiting over watching actual basketball.

Reghi just said on the Kent-Buffalo game that he will be interviewing D.J. on the phone tomorrow afternoon on STO's call-in show. Runs between 3-6. He didn't say what time D.J. would be on.

First half in the last three home games: Ohio 154 -- Opponents 73.  Nice way to get started.  Thought it would be sure to end vs Toledo, but they were outscored 34-19 by WMU in the first half tonight.

45- Ohio pts in 1st half
45- NIU pts in 2nd half

I know I'm nit picking but I'd really like too see us keep the hammer down for 40 minutes.

Christian said the exact same thing in the post game show. They lost their focus in the 2nd half, which is kind of understandable considering the beating that took place earlier in the game. If NIU wasn't quite sure they were getting blitzed, they should have picked up on that when DJ got the ball with 7 seconds on the shot clock, dribbled around and drew in the defender, just so he could set up Reggie for a 3 at the buzzer.

Despite this not being a very formidable opponent, I think we saw tonight more evidence of what the difference is in OHIO being "good" team as compared to being "very good" or "great"  team.  You could argue it's DJ being in control DJ and I would agree.  Some would say it's Baltic playing the position we need him to play versus a perimeter jump shooter and I would agree.  Some might even say getting some contributions from the 'bigs and I would agree with that assertion as well.  But it appears we go from "good" to "very good" or "great" by Walter being on.  We saw OHIO take it to another level late last season when he got going and I think the same is true this year.  When he's got it going we take it to another level.

I agree 100% on Walt. Despite a couple mishaps, I feel confident saying this team is soundly a good team.  Very solid in all the key areas with some other areas where we really excel.  Then on top of that, if Walt gets going...

I was a bit concerned at the general lack of effort/enthusiasm in the 2nd half. Players, coaches, fans, O Zone...seemed like everyone just "gave up" once we got the big lead.

Obviously, it's hard to keep up the same intensity when you're up 30. But, the lethargic play for most of the 2nd half was certainly alarming.

I think the only way this team could've played with more sense of urgency down the stretch is to have had them all put $100 on OHIO -20.5 and I guarantee they would'nt have let the lead slip down to only winning by 19 when it could've/would've been much more.  :)

....which is exactly why I cheered as hard at the end of the game as I did at the beginning. For entertainment purposes only, of course, I was rooting hard for Nick Goff's three ball to drop in the last minute.

Good to read that we played quite well.  Not sure a home game against a weak foe is the barometer.

When we start whipping 'em good on the road, then I'll be more convinced.

Last year we gave 'ville a helluva tussle at their place.  This year, Memphis.  And some home losses and not many road wins.

I hope it blooms big and you all get to blast me for being late to the bandwagon.

having stood in the OZone, the only real enthusiasm we had in the second half was to rag on their PG. A bit immature but what can ya do

Once again the people who don't care about the basketball game and only go for the Jersey sat down in the Ozone section and barley cheered or cared, and left at halftime. I had class until 5, and I waited way back in the student line and I didn't even get a jersey. Then when I got in I had to sit 8 rows up with people who didn't even cheer during the game. I hate to point out the problem, but its the ladies who show up just to get the free shit and leave. On the other hand, good game, 7,600 people showed up on a weekday, and OUr guys nailed 3 pointers like it was going out of style.

Well said George.

I hope we can make the Big Dance......a group of us headed south last year to a cabin to watch the first dance weekend......hope to do it this year as well....already downloaded some new Dropkick Murphy's for ambiance.

Playing devil's advocate here, but do you think there's any chance we have that kind of student crowd vs. NIU if not for the jerseys and free food? I say not a chance.

Love or hate the people that show up, they certainly know how to advertise a giveaway. I have never seen a line as long as the one outside the Convo last night...not even in the Trent years.

From the glass half-full view: Check the other attendance figures around the MAC last nite. It wasn't even close. 7600+ on a weeknight in Athens! Not too shabby.
