Will be there standing in first row in the O-Zone. Have no expectations because it's a scrimmage, but itching to be back in the Convo for my last full year as a student. Going to go fast.

Even a scrimmage against the blind school should get more posts than this.

Are people so bummed over the fiami football loss that they gave up on sports?

Ha...I'm with ya greencat. If it makes you feel any better, today feels like Christmas morning to this die-hard Bobcats basketball fan. LFG!

Not much to say about an exhibition against a weak D3 team. We should completely destroy them regardless of who we have on the court and every single player should get at least 10 minutes.

I am still annoyed they moved this from Saturday, was going to go, now not. Looking forward to reports from those that can make it.

If we don't win by 30+ I'll come back and revisit this thread for a discussion.

With Bobcat 1998. If anyone at game can provide some commentary/analysis during the game that would be great.

Thanks

High Points: the 110 sounded really good

Lows: no inside game on either end of the floor
G Wiz getting his shot blocked by Otterbein's 6-7 backup center
then a 3-on-1 fast break that resulted in nothing
the first half stretch that couldn't have beat the blind school
letting D-3 scrubs slash and beat them to the rim

Just got back from the Convo, and am satisfied but also a little annoyed with our result. A few observations

1: Shareef is LEGIT. I have never seen a guard up in someone's grill like that before in my 2 years of watching OU basketball. Forced a ton of steals and mistakes from the opposing PG. He's going to get huge minutes in place of Jaylin when J sits.

2: Hadaway got better as the game went on, loved his scrapping and clawing for rebounds and great defensive cycles. He'll be great this year. Thought Clayton / GWiz were wayyyyyy too soft tonight with that. Seemed like when Reef was playing hard / getting on the others it lit a fire under Aiden.

3: GWiz is improved but, still is a project. If others can score, all he needs to do is rebound, set screens, provide defense and finish at the basket if needed. Still gives me a heart attack though when the ball is in his hands though.

4: We played a four guard lineup at some points during the game and while it was alright at times I don't know if it'll work in NC / MAC play. the lack of forward depth is worrying me.

5: Boals put in Corna / Estis / Nicol in closing minutes and thought they could have uped the score, but missed a few opportunties. Estis seemed alright at Point and Corna / Nicol were pretty meh on D. I think they will likely be on bench most of the year.

6: AJB was extremely slow to start but eventually got a few good opportunities and capitalized. Elmore was good offensively but a bit inconsistent on D. He had a few very good defensive cycles though. Miles was a bit invisible which was alittle disappointing.

Overall, solid game but we definitely have holes we need to patch up before we see Troy. Our guard play is solid with Reef and Hadaway stepping up to the plate tonight with intensity and energy on D. Our shooting was a bit rough along with our rebounding but think they will fix that in preparation for Troy. IJ was in street clothes tonight, I'm very worried if he reinjured himself / staff sitting him out as a precaution or a much different and concerning reason. He seemed in great spirits when I talked to him earlier in the week.

How does ohiobobcats.com not have a boxscore with game story? Pathetic.

And IJ in street clothes again…huh? So glad we have a stellar media group to ask Boals what is going on there.

Where was Cornish tonight?

Sounds like a frustrating night of ball in the Convo.

Excellent summary, thanks for passing along this info.

I am bummed to hear about IJ in street clothes - I'm thinking we really need him this season.

Thanks for the breakdown, Cellis. Echoing Fear’s question — any input on Ike? Bummer to hear Clayton and Wiz (but mostly Clayton) weren’t more imposing; but also hoping they scaled back because it’s a scrimmage. Learning Wiz had his shot block by someone smaller (at the D3 level) sounds more of the same, unfortunately.

The IJ mystery continues. Maybe Hadaway ends up being a bigger piece to the puzzle if he’s aggressive on the boards and defense. We just need a combination of that from guys with some size.

Agree with the statements already made. We seemed soft inside. Made mistakes (knew we would) but I hope we clean them up as we got away with sloppiness that won't happen with a good team. Shereef is going to be fun to watch. High energy, tenacious defense and a good mid-range jumper. Same old hot and cold shooting streaks.

I hope Ike gets better since he was hyped so much. Dribbled off his own feet at least 3 times. Shot was short and bobbled quite a few passes. Might be jitters, I guess we will see next week.

1st have the rotational defense looked good but will need to step it up.

Agree on Hadaway, hope he keeps fighting like that as we need that type of player on the floor at times.

No live stats, no box score, no photo gallery, no in-game updates, no pregame story in The Post, nothing yet from WOUB.

With our roster it makes sense to go with the Villanova style four guard lineup frequently. Will be interesting to see how much we see this during the year.

I don't know the official stats but we didn't shoot the ball well. Lots of missed threes that were open/good looks. It seemed consistent throughout the game that we struggled to get the easy bucket in transition, even when we had numbers. There was one pick and roll with Hunter and Gabe when Gabe was open for a lob-dunk...and never even jumped. He wasn't looking for the ball. Shereef and Hunter seemed to be the brightest spots, to my eyes. I can't figure out Sheldon. He shoots the ball so well in warmups and in past high school clips I have seen...then seems unable to even get close from 3-point land in games here. Cornish was not real impressive, as mentioned. Hopefully it was just a ho-hum performance due to the opponent.

Also, a friend of mine pointed something out that now my eyes cannot unsee. G-Wiz is a 6'11 version of Cousin Mose Schrute from The Office.
