I watched last nights game and thought JP was not very aggressive, unless hat was part of the coaches choice.

And yes I believe that has been a common criticism of JP. Not being aggressive and driving to the basket and creating opportunities.

Multiple reports JP has been waived by the Clippers. Nothing unexpected. It's a shame he had to miss his rookie year. Go be great somewhere else in the league JP.

I think another team will pick him up. He just was not a good fit with the Clippers.

No doubt...will be interesting to see if he tries to stay in the league with most likely at 2-way G-League deal or go overseas. He'd probably make more money overseas.

He's playing in the Clip's rematch tonight vs the Lakers. Started, and at the half, tied for team lead in minutes, points. Leads in rebounds and is second in assists
with four. Wonder if they would be using him like this if he has already been waived?

Very good chance the Clippers wanted to leak waiving JP and play him a ton tonight to showcase him to other teams more possibly.

With that said, the Clippers kept JP on the bench during the final five minutes of game that went down to the final second.

I don't believe that summer league roster spots have any correlation with NBA roster spots. The affiliation between teams ensures NBA teams get minutes for their guys, but the remaining spots are filled by unaffiliated players. Preston should be able to keep playing through summer league.

Summer league is over. no incentive for clippers to guarantee his contract. which translates to him being waived today. which is best for him professionally. it won’t be a surprise to him or his agent. i’m sure they have been sniffing around here and overseas. if he’s interested preston will be paid to play basketball somewhere.

The Chicago Bulls could sure use a "pass first" point guard.

I'm not sure I see a ton of fits for Preston around the league -- at least in terms of teams who would bring him in for the NBA club and not a 2 way deal.

Miami could make some sense. They're basically in a weird holding pattern while Portland shops Lillard, and whether they land him or not, they're going to end up missing out on free agency and need to fill out the roster with league minimum guys. They also lost their starting point guard and will need depth there. Preston also strikes me as a guy who fits the Heat's culture; they like guys who have grit and had to work through nobody believing in them to get to where they are.

Toronto could also be a fit, especially if they deal Siakam and/or Anunoby. If they're rebuilding, makes sense to take a flier on a guy like Preston who may still have some upside at the league minimum.

Think he could be a decent fit with the Cavs second team. Get Garland/Mitchell off the ball some when the other needs a rest. Someone who can create shots for others, rather than taking his own. Cavs have a dozen shooters and outside Garland, no true PG.

He's going to have to sign a two-way to stay in the Association, I'm sure.

according to The Athletic the Clippers have extended the deadline to October 1. appears to be a way to hold on to him as a trade piece with the sixers or to allow them to reevaluate once a trade is complete. A two-way is still probably the betting favorite as a final resolution. not a bad outcome for preston if he can get it. full time guaranteed roster spot is not likely.

We have been hearing about JP,s and when his contract for next year can be cancelled yet there has not been any new updates.

Anyone have new info on this? I certainly hope he can continue to collect his total 1st contract.

The Clippers are using JP’s contract for trade leverage, the team that trades for Preston can lower their luxury tax bill, by waiving his non guaranteed contract. They could also attempt to create a small trade exception. JP will need to be more aggressive and confident in his next opportunity. He has to go out swinging, if he is going to go out. I hope his agent negotiated a payment for the postponement of his contract because this is hindering JP’s other opportunities.

Whoever Preston's agency is earns their money on PR. Multiple articles in major publications touting his work ethic and commitment, a national TV commercial about his story, rumors of a screen play.

That can only help his cause.

Would be a little scared of him getting traded (from his personal standpoint, bc I think he makes close to $2M this season), since LA has seen him play pretty well up close in the G-League, but they're not in the least bit interested in developing players right now. Same with BJ Boston. They keep bringing in veterans to make a run. Thats their focus. Would love to see him get some floor time with a young team, or even the second line with an up-and-coming team - like Cleveland.

Cleveland point guard Ricky Rubio recently announced he'll be taking time off for mental health reasons. Perhaps an opening for JP?

Here's a list of the teams who still have an opening for a two way contract:

Nets
Mavericks
Pistons
Pelicans
Magic
Suns
Spurs
Wizards

Hopefully one of these teams will give him a shot.
