Does JP get his full salary no matter if he’s with LA or Ontario? How does that work?

Westbrook gets the start in LA's first game after the all-star game break, finishing with 17 pts, 14 assists and 5 rebounds. He leads the Clippers to a 175-point outing. The opponent, Sacramento, scores 176.

I guess the good news is Russ is only on a one year deal (really a half year) with the Clips, which means he'll be a free agent come summer. With the guys they've traded/signed for this year including Russ, Eric Gordon, Bones Hyland and Mason Plumlee, it seems like they're just making one last push for this year's playoffs. As of right now they're a 5 seed in the West right behind Phoenix.

Looking at the other guys' contracts:

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have player options in 2024-25 then both become unrestricted free agents. Leonard will be 34 years old by 2025 and George 35. Hope all that load management has paid off.

Maybe this is just one last hurrah before all these guys get old.

Decent chance Preston is a FA by summer. The third year of his deal is non guaranteed and free agency begins before his deal becomes guaranteed.

If they're looking for extra cash or to avoid luxury tax payments if they opt to pick up Gordon's deal, that's obvious money to cut.

Either way, Summer League is critical for him next year.

One thing working for JP this season is Ontario is +6.2 when he's on the floor. BJ Boston is +6.5. They seem to have built a report, they're also a nice size advantage.

Unfortunately for both of them, I'm not sure the Clippers even know what they're doing with either player.

They have 242 guards on the team and just keep adding them.

Finally got to see Jason play for Ontario in the G League, although half the time the announcer called him something else. He didn't disappoint as he was 1 rebound short of a triple double: 19 points (50% shooting), 9 boards and 10 assists. He played 37 minutes and looked healthy, ran the court well, and looks like he bulked up a bit. I thing he can play somewhere in the NBA.

Jason is in Cleveland. Ontario plays the Cleveland Charge in the Wolstein Center tomorrow and Saturday nights. He and John Tenerowicz look like they shared a box at this afternoon's game.

That is some truly incredible luck. He'll get to catch the whole tourney and not even switch hotels.

Jason isn’t in the Ontario box score tonight. Injured? Called back to LA?

Ontario at Cleveland game currently on Ballysports. Don't notice JP with quick look at the bench. He wasn't on Clippers' roster for game earlier today v. Knicks.

I know he missed both Cleveland games, he may have missed one other game after, also, but is since back in the lineup. Their G League schedule is just so weird. They'll have what seems like 3 games in 5 days, then a 6 day break.

Final weekend of the NBA season and some teams are still jockeying for better playoff seeding while others are resting their starters for the playoffs. Clippers seemed to be the latter case Saturday, playing all 15 players that dressed with JP getting in the final 2 minutes. Teams are playing their final game of the season today, so look for JP to get some minutes (hopefully more than 2) v. Phoenix at 3:30.

He is on the post season roster and is dressed (although sitting in the second row). Won't sniff the court unless it is a blowout, but fun experience and if....if Clippers win it all he will get a ring.

Offseason finances: The Clippers are over the tax for the fourth straight season. The $377 million in committed salary is the second highest in league history. Gordon's contract becomes guaranteed on June 28. The $1.8 million contracts of Brandon Boston Jr. and Jason Preston become guaranteed on June 30 and July 2.

Interesting tidbit from Boals during Pickerington caravan:

A movie script about Jason is being shopped around in Hollywood.

Boals' casting choice for his character is Jason Sudekis.

That would be amazing. I'd be willing to bet Hollywood would do what it does and change the story to cut out Phillips and just make Boals the guy who discovered him. The "take the coach who believed in me to the promise land" story is a lot better than have to create 2 different endearing coach characters.

It would be an easier sell if he was able to rise to a decent level of prominence in the NBA, have some culminating moment like coming off the bench and winning a playoff game. But I suppose Hollywood could do what they do and just make that part up.

I would go see this movie / be an extra if they filmed it in Athens.

Think it's pretty likely Preston's deal isn't picked up and he's a FA by July 2nd.

His $1.8m salary actually costs the Clippers +6m given their luxury tax requirements, and Preston's only found the floor in 14 games. His per 36 numbers are solid, but he's entering his age 24 season and suspect it makes more financial sense for them to take a flier on a younger league minimum guy.
