1/5     Pitt at Rutgers - 5,081
1/12   St Johns and G-Town at the Garden - 11,057
1/19   VMI at Coastal Car - 2,400 (I'd guess it seats 4,500?)
1/26  Syracuse at 'Nova - 18,000+
2/2     UC at Seton Hall - 6,960
2/9     UD vs Temple at UD Arena - 12,000+

These numbers tend to dispel the "too early for a good crowd" notion.  Along with that, how good was that finish for us on national TV?

I'm not sure if citing Georgetown/St. John's at MSG and 'Cuse at Nova dispel that notion. Those are some top-shelf programs and match-ups. For a program like us to draw 8,500 is indeed quite impressive.

And, also, I have no idea how Dayton does it! They have an unbelievable following...

Off track a bit, but Dayton continues to be a benchmark for fan support. If things fall through for Dayton and Xavier leaves them for the Catholic 7, can we please get them in the MAC? It could be a great rivalry.

Dayton will be in the Catholic 7: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/colleges/catholic-7-schools-including-georgetown-charting-a-new-yet-familiar-path/2013/02/16/f1eaa870-7876-11e2-aa12-e6cf1d31106b_story.html

Its hard to beat a team 3 times in one year.

But they'd only have to win once more. It's not three times, it's one. Winning the first two doesn't make the third game harder.

Not true. Games arent played in a vacuum. They have 85 mins worth of tape showing what we do against their schemes both on offense and defense. They would have plenty of footage and experience to make adjustments for a third matchup. They are also going to be pissed off and extra motivated if we faced them again as well. I want no part of Kent a third time.

A team that wins the first two games wins the third a high percentage of the time. The statistics don't back up this myth.

If a team beats another team twice in a season, they are statistically more likely to win the third game. In the NFL, it's 65% likely that the winner of two division games in the regular season will win the playoff matchup. In the NCAA, where the top teams are better and the bottom teams are worse, it's 81%.

Think about it. Memphis beats Rice twice during the regular season. They have RPIs of 24 and 310 respectively. What makes you think that the terrible, terrible Rice Owls are somehow more likely to win that third game? They aren't, and the results back it up. Sure Ohio-Kent third matchup will likely be a lot closer than the Memphis-Rice third game. However, the winner of the first two games are more likely to win the third by a 4 to 1 margin.
You've hit the most important thing on the head here. If the teams are evenly matched like Ohio and Kent, I'm guessing the odds are not 4 to 1 that Ohio wins again. I'd rather not play Kent, but whatever happens, happens.

For as quiet as the Convo was when Kent came storming back, the electricity went off the charts late in the game and in OT.  For a crowd that size, that was as loud as I can remember the Convo in a while when Stevie bombed in that three.  The most miraculous part of that play was Walt getting his hands on another horrible pass from Ivo.  Why that boy want to throw passes at the feet of his teammates every game blows my mind.  Walt was huge today, also.  We could tell something was off with Cooper, but had no idea what it was until we saw him puking after halftime beside the bench.  Yeah, he had a bad day at the free throw line, but for a guy that sick that was a real gutsy (pun intended) performance!

Dayton does it for a number of reasons in my opinion:
-They have a tradition of success there, this season excluded.
-They're a basketball school, in a basketball conference, and frankly, in a basketball region. And they don't succumb to the nonsense and spending race that is "big time" college football, so they're hoops focused.
-They're the biggest show in town in a decent sized community.
-They have a superb facility.

When you read through all this - Ohio has some of the same characteristics.  Interestingly, Akron has some as well.
