This. I really want to do a commercial that really plays up the student body aspect of this school. Imagine getting one of our more excitable O Zone members walking down the brick walkway on College Green toward the Alumni Gate.

"You usually only get to do college once. One chance to really push yourself, to branch out, to realize your full potential the way you want to. From a night studying in the library to a Saturday morning at Peden stadium, you can be you. From award winning academics to one of the best student populations in the country, there's something here for everyone." *voice starting to get louder* "So come on, join the pack. COME. TO. OHIO." *Rufus, fans, some 110 stand at gate, 110 starts to play SUAC as the screen fades to green and the Ohio Academic logo.

Alumni freak out whenever they try an advertisement that is not traditional. You weren't around for the "Feel the Love" campaign...

Couple of things.

1) Best I have seen this team handle a zone defense in a long time.

2) Coop was toying with EMU.

3) Reggie is lucky he didn't get a Flagrant 2 for that foul.

4) Welcome back, Ivo Baltic!  Very pleased with his performance last night.

5) We out-rebounded a team!

From where I was sitting, Reggie really went at the EMU player hard.  Too hard.  I was pretty convinced that he was going to get ejected when I saw it happen.  I was also surprised Lumberjack didn't get more than one T for reacting the way he did.  I agree, smart move by JC to pull the starters after that.  No sense in risking a retaliation injury or further mess at this point in the year.  As for Ivo, he was very active, made some good passes, attacked the rim more, and was a very important contributor with 8 points 9 boards off the bench.

Anybody see or hear what Walt did to get his T after the hard foul on Reggie?

Arkley reported that there was no courtside monitor to review the play on. And if there was, I'm confident Reggie would have been ejected because from my small computer screen I could tell exactly what he was intent on doing. By the same token, it was fairly blatant what happened on the other end of the floor with the hard foul on Keeley that was terribly under-officiated.

I feel odd saying I'm fine with how things went down. I think maybe it's because Reggie did his own work instead of somebody getting sent off the bench to send the message. I'm not usually of this mind... it's a little confusing to me.

Finally, on the video issue: Please take a moment and separate our communications school from the athletic department's gameday operations. The game webcast is a commercial free service that does not and should never be confused with television coverage. The game webcast is a window into the Convo for those not able to go to the game. It can not be allowed to become a replacement for actual attendance, and its quality is low on purpose. For those who are unhappy with this quality, there is a method by which one can affect change; for more information, call your Bobcat Representative.

That Reggie foul was unreal.  As soon as the breakaway developed and Reggie just lurked cross court, I said "Uh Oh."  That was the equivalent of a fastball in the back, no doubt.  I know it is childish and unnecessary, but a part of me kind of loves seeing this stuff in sports (outside of the possibility of someone getting hurt).  Retribution, sticking up for teammates, hating the opponent are all things I can't really fault a player for.

Ivo was awesome last night...He actually kind of reminded me of the way Ricardo plays where he hustles and sneaks in unexpecingly to grab a loose ball.  True to Ivo form, he also had a few bonehead moments...But you take the bad with the good and he was very good last night.

By the way, I am convinced David McKinley could absolutely be a solid regular in the MAC.  He can shoot, but he also just plays smart team basketball.  I would have no problem if all of a sudden he had to fill the role that Stevie or Travis currently play.

The only bad moment of the night was when they hit 3 straight 3s mid-way thru the 2nd half.  We can't give them open outside looks like that when we have a big lead...I think this has been a big reason why we have let big leads shrink in several games.  Amp up the perimeter defense when we build the big lead.  As Coach O'Shea told us, 3 pointers are worth 50% more than 2 pointers.

I didn't see it, but Coach Murphy said Walt shoved someone. The problem I had with the Chandler foul was that he stood over Reggie on the ground and was saying something. Apparently, the refs missed that. The problem with Reggie's foul wasn't that it was terribly hard, but he followed through with a hard push after the foul.

One thing I thought was cool was that Coach Christian said an Eastern player apologized after the game. I think he was referring to Balkema, who got the technical after Keely's foul, not Chandler, who fouled Keely.

If you came to me and said "Look, I will guarantee you that the Bobcats will win a National Championship in the next 10 years, but to do it you have to watch them play 10 years of EMU stile basketball" I would say no thanks, I'll take my chances. Their style of play is the most boring, anti-fan bball I've ever seen.

And their putrid attendance makes sense after watching them play last night.

It was Balkema......or the guy from Brawny Paper Towels.  According to their SID, he's a pretty good kid.

my two cents . . .

I was at the game and I thought Reggie's foul was obviously intentional but not ridiculously hard -- he took the guys arms out with his arms, he did not use his body.  FWIW, I thought for sure Sims would pull up for the wide open three (although he had missed his last few), EMU had reduced the lead to under 20 by hitting threes in the previous minutes, including one by Sims.

I think Walt's T was for verbal abuse, I did not see any contact.

Final point, did anyone else think that JC was pointedly more animated in the second half of this game?  I was sitting in the upper bowl and I could hear him, don't remember hearing him before.  Granted it was a smaller crowd, quieter game (we could even hear DJ!).  Given that WE were cruising and things were getting a little sloppy I wondered if JC was sending a subtle message to the team that HE wasn't cruising, that HE was coaching the full 40 no matter the score.  Or was he truly just extremely pissed at the hard fouls on Reg/bad officiating?  I thought he was headed towards a T himself at one point, I think he got at least one of the officials attention and I was glad to see it.

I've noticed that the bad camera work seems to be because the camera guy has to update the score that's on the screen.  So basically after every made bucket he has to update the score and work the camera, doesn't seem very efficient.  Probably are lacking the volunteer staff to have two people doing this.  I would bet you that whoever is working the camera is a student volunteer just like the video guys for the football team.  So I'll complain about it but I know if we want it to change then alumni will need to pony up some money and give a direct gift for this issue.

Camera work is TERRIBLE. I'm at all the home games, but have watched the replays. I shutter to think if that's how I had to watch games from afar.

updating the score did not have much to do with the breaks off turns last night. The biggest gaffes came during up and down action where there was no scoring happening. .....well ....that and the multiple takeaways for points the EMU's had on in bounds plays. I can not tell you what was happening on the in bounds or press last night as the camera was somewhere else.

Bobcat Attack needs to work this out with the department. Sponsor a camera fund. I am in for $50 to cover the games I can't make.

Only the 110 drumline had a better view of Reggie's foul than I did last night.  He started smiling as the guy crossed half court, so I knew what was coming.  I love the enforcement of the unwritten rules in sports.  The officials should have called a flagrant on the other end first.  He "did what needed to be done".

I think we may see a few more of these before the regular season is over if the officials don't take a more proactive approach towards stopping the extra action.  I expect it to get rough against both Akron and BG.

Make that three.

Although I wonder why it's so hard to get student volunteers.

I was at the game.  Reggie got away with a possible ejection, since the replay monitor wasn't working.  No idea what Walt said to warrant the T, but #12 on EMU was basically asking for a technical.  The ref that called the T on Walt, had his back to #12, as the kid was obviously mouthing off and shoving our guys.  That is why Christian got so animated and kept pointing at #12.  In fact he looked like he was trying to get the ref to turn around to see what 12 was doing just as he T'ed up Walt.  JC really lost it after that.

Seems like we have had a lot of games where things have gotten heated between us and other MAC teams this year.  I can't figure out if teams just despise us or we are egging them on.  I'm sure teams like Kent and EMU are easily irritable at this point in the season.

You must have been sitting right next to me. I saw Reg lolligagging, I thought "what the hell is he...." then I saw a bit of a smug grin. I thought "Here we go!" Thats a hard foul. Kurt Rambis would be proud. I cheered.

There are lots of volunteers doing many things on gameday, with WOUB, shooting on the floor for athletics and Attack U, etc. All of those things probably are a higher priority, and a lot more fun than running the stream.
