This is quite possibly the biggest game of the season, considering where we are at this point.  Lose to EMU and our MAC title hopes are almost shot.  Let's take care of business!

Safe to say, this is applicable to every game here on out! Sure would be nice to have this week "off" as it was originally planned. Darned $5 shooter!!

40 minutes of execution needed each game from here on out.

I believe we are now truly playing for an at-large bid.  But, we have no room for error.  Must win all remaining regular season games and make it to the MAC finals.

I presume you're talking about the regular season title.  This game has practically no bearing on the tourney title, although it may affect seeding in the tourney.  Still, it would be great to get at least a share of the regular season crown.  Besides, when was the last time we swept the West?  Not in my memory.

The team should see this game (or any MAC game) as MUCH more important than the Belmont game.  Belmont is for RPI purposes, which only matters for seeding IF we make it to the NCAA.  But to get to the NCAA, we'll need to win the MAC tourney.  Our RPI -- 74 according to AP; 76 by ESPN -- isn't going to be good enough for an at-large, even if we win out the regular season but lose to Akron in the final.  The cutoff will probably be upper 40s, and we blew our chance to get there with the losses to Memphis, Okla, Mr. Morris and Winthrop.  Make any one of those a win and it would be different.  Yes, beating Belmont does matter because we want the best record possible if we get to the NCAA.  But MAC games matter most.  We need to get the best seed possible for the MAC tourney.  Beating EMU would just about lock up at least a 2 seed.  We'd be 3 up on WMU with four to go, and we have the tiebreaker on them.  A loss and we're still two up with four to go, so I still like our chances.  So let's beat EMU and have basically one less thing to worry about.

If this seems rambling, it's only because I have the day off and have time to ramble.

Eastern Michigan has players who have transferred from Syracus, Duquesne, Arkansas and Wyoming, but it hasn't produced much success for the Eagles. They're a pretty bad offensive team, shooting barely 40 percent on the year while committing a lot of turnovers. But they do play good defense, holding foes to 39.3 percent shooting while causing a lot of turnovers.

Derek Thompson  (6-3) was their leading scorer but then he missed time supposedly because of the birth of his child and he's played qutie sporadically lately. He's played 2, 0, 21 and 4 minutes the last four games. The zero was against Akron, and obvioulsy the Eagles played pretty well without him. The one game he really got time in was against Toledo, a 2-for-13 performance.

7-foot center Da'Shonte Riley contributes almost nothing offensively. Rebounds and blocks a few shots.
Glenn Bryant is 6-8 and their leading scorer at 10.6 ppg, but he shoots quite a few 3s and does so at an 18 percent clip.
Daylen Harrison (6-6) is an OK shoot (34% on 3s) but turns the ball over a ton.
Freshman point guard Jalen Ross (5-11) has almost as many turnovers as assists. He's an OK shooter (35.4 percent 3s).
Jamell Harris (6-9) has scored excactly two points four games in a row.
J.R. Sims (6-3) shoots 34 percent on 3s and leads the teams in steals despite playing only 19 minutes per game.
Austin Harper (6-2), Matt Balkema (6-10) and Anthony Strickland (6-5) each average about 10 minutes per game.

Hate to think bad thoughts.......but this Eastern team beat the $#=%  out of Ohio last year.  If practice intensity is any indication, I am happy to report that Ohio reported for work this afternoon!   Spirited, focused work from the Bobcats on Monday.   It appears they are focused on one game at a time.......the next one being the important one.  We owe the Eagles a beating !  They will zone us a bunch to try to slow us down and play at their speed.  We will try to get after them to keep that from happening.  Their size up front is a concern.

We have to lead the country in giveaways!

Seriously, kudos to those involved in the planning and execution of these advertising and promotional elements. The efforts to get students and community members to games this year have been excellent. Head and shoulders above anything I've seen in 25+ years following the teams.

EMU also isn't a very good road team, like most teams in this conference. Most nights, they can't shoot well at all.  Simple approach has to be pushing the tempo as much as possible (as always) to take their length out of the equation in the half court, and to win the turnover battle.

Anyone suppose that Kadeem, because of size, get's some extra minutes in this one against EMU's big fella?

While Kadeem may see some action, I think we will see the rotation inside of Reggie, Ivo, and big Jon.  It is my guess that the Ohio staff is more interested in seeing Ivo "come alive" and play more aggressively at both ends of the floor than more minutes for Kadeem.    If that doesnt happen, then I think we will continue to see more J.S.

Quickly looking at their schedule and results, the highest point total they have allowed in a WIN is 58.  In other words, score 60+ points against them and you're going to win most of the time against them.  I like our chances of getting 60+ even though the 2-3 zone makes me a little uneasy.  I'll be there, barring another $5 mugging.

Count me in the "not worried about this one at all" camp.

EMU reminds me of South Florida last year, only not good at basketball.

Ozcat, I like your confidence, and your "location" !  Your "location" is "not playing", so your attitude about this game will not cause us any problems!   I am hoping that none of our kids feel the way you do !!   After watching how hard they got after it at yesterdays practice, I do not believe that we have to worry about looking ahead, or over-confidence.  Not going to guarrantee a win, but I believe  that we are focused on the task at hand.  Go Cats !

Was hoping there'd be a free parking promotion for this game in honor of the $5 bandit.

I was expecting more like 15.  Maybe Vegas is giving us more of a home court advantage than normal since Eastern has only one road win all season.

Haha, that would have been awesome!  They should've made the giveaway $5 bills.  Not only would it be funny, but sadly it would draw the students out as good as anything.

I'm showing it is either 15 or 15.5.  The O/U is 121.5 which seems high to me.

On average, there's 117.0 points per game scored in an EMU game and 138.3 scored in an Ohio game. So it looks like the odds makers are favoring the pace to be more Eastern's style.

I hate to say this game scares me, but we will not win big if we just show up and go through the motions.  It will be Eastern's zone defense, length and their pace of play versus our quickness, our perimeter shooting, and our pressure to speed the game up.  If we can shoot it well, and create turnovers and faster pace of play then we will be fine.   I hope we can come out and jump on them early !  We owe them from last year !

Totally agree, doubledribble!

One thing that annoys me about Eastern's style of play is the weave they sometimes run WAY out front...just to run the shot clock down.  Last year at Ypsilanti (I was there for the debacle), we seldom disrupted this weave with our defense.  Hopefully things are different tonight!

Man, criminals are really trying to keep us from playing this game.  Last time an armed robbery closes down campus, and now last night two more dangerous criminal acts.  Some dude got arrested for firing shots on State St last night and I just got an email crime alert from OUPD about an attempted armed robbery at knife point last night.

I'm almost scared to go to the Convo tonight at this rate.
