Looking forward to my final in person viewing in the Convo of Reg, Ivo, Coop and my daughter in the pep band--been together for four historic years in Athens.

Go Bobcats, beat the Zips!

I can't wait for this game.  There will be an electric crowd in attendance against our biggest rival in Basketball.  Not Miami, not Marshall.  They aren't on our level right now.  Akron is THE game for Ohio.  GO CATS!

Can't miss this game.  Definitely going to be there and I hope the Roundhouse on Richland is rocking!  Harney guarding DJ is going to limit what he can do.  Need Ivo and Walt to have big games.  I have a feeling Kellogg is going to find his groove again.  When he is knocking down 3's, watch out!

I feel no different about this game now than I did a week ago.  I think our guys will come out PO'd, motivated, ready to play and will jump on Akron early.  When that initial emotion wears off and the game turns into a slugfest, we'll see if we can execute well enough to end Akron's winning streak.  I expect us to jump on them early, Akron fights back, and we have a tight game down the stretch.  I don't think this Akron team will fold as quickly as last year's squad did here when we blitzed them early.  Need to execute, get good looks, and turn Akron over.

In the grand scheme of things, that thread would be as fitting if we beat Akron as it would be if we lose to them.  Same difference either way.

Akron is now #24 in the coaches' poll. Sweet, now an "overrated" chant won't be out of place.

But doesn't that undervalue a Bobcat victory?

not sure but saw this:

Akron will be the 8th ranked team to play in the Convo in Athens. Ohio is 3-4 all-time at home vs. ranked teams.

Kentucky. They were ranked 6th on December 30th , 1997 when they pounded Ohio (see Wilderness Campaign) 95-58.

All seven home games:
12/30/97  Kentucky ranked 6th (95-58 Ohio loss)
1/31/96    Eastern Michigan ranked 23rd (82-73 Ohio win)
3/10/89    Ball St. ranked 19th (62-46 Ohio loss)
12/15/71  Indiana ranked 12th (Ohio 79-70 win)
12/11/71  Ohio St. ranked 4th (Ohio 79-68 win)
1/21/63    Loyola-Chicago ranked 2nd (Ohio loss 80-72)
12/1/60    Ohio St. ranked 1st (Ohio loss 85-64)

The athletics' twitter page says #23 Eastern Michigan played in the Convo in 1998 when they were led by Earl Boykins.

EDIT, That was the last home win over a ranked opponent.

So looks like this will be the 8th time in Athens, and the 6th in the Convo.

we went into Cleveland last year with a record of 24-7, we're currently at 20-7 with 4 to play. Akron will be tough, even at home, but its still very realistic that we finish this season with an identical record as last season but with a higher seed in the tournament. Is life so bad?

I kind of want to build up the game to friends that it's only the 8th ranked team ever to play in the Convo and first since 1998, but that's actaully kind of embarrassing considering most locals are WVU fans and they do that in one season.

That's not even remotely true, is it?

WVU has hosted three teams this season that were ranked at the time (#18 Kansas St, #2 Kansas, #14 Oklahoma St.). By my count they also hosted three such teams in 2011/12, their final big east year.

So, they don't host 8/year, but its not like a top25 coming to visit is an uncommon happening.

As an athlete, I always want to beat the highest rated opponent possible and as a fan I feel the same. Which is why I never understood a fan base making an opponent seem to be of lesser quality. Which is why I've never been a fan of the standard "over-rated" chant. I would be more impressed if Ohio defeated the 24th-ranked team in the country than one that is over-rated and might be the 30th-best or 42nd-best team. This is just one person's opinion and I'm sure I'll hear this chant coming from the O-Zone Wednesday night.

While we're at it, please help this texting/twittering illiterate with "smh". I saw it in another thread today and I've tried all possible combinations (well, not all) of these three letters w/o any success. Hey, at least I know the shorthand "w/o".

Thanks, Athena. I was wondering if I was being disrespected and not even knowing it.
