So it is absolutely confirmed that Toledo won't participate this year because of APR?  Our friend's in the MAC office made a release today that indicated all 12 teams participating.  I asked our good friend J. Guy on twitter about it, but did not get a response.

hmm. I hadn't heard that yet. I wonder if they were referring to the Women's Tournament, which will have 12 teams participating. I guess I'll assume that Toledo isn't participating until the MAC website is updated.

Darn.  I was hoping to have a nice time watching Toledo upset Akron on Friday night.

So in other words, the MAC office and the Q just doesn't have their stuff together yet.  Just another day.

So except for bragging rights, finishing first or second provides the same benefit (bye to the semis) in the tourney?

Depends on how you look at it.  Getting the first seed probably assures that we wouldn't play WMU in the semi's, which is a plus.

Also, I just looked and the MAC site has been corrected to reflect Toledo's exclusion this year.

Also guaranteed NIT birth should we not make NCAA's. People probably would say who cares, but the NIT is still a lot better than the CBI.

Why do I bother opening threads where Monroe is listed under the "Last Comment" column?

Without any research on the matter, I am assuming we would qualify as an NIT at-large this year.

Well, no updates this season yet on NIT-ology, but I would assume that when we get to 24+ wins we would be a lock for the NIT, should we not happen to win the MAC Tourney.

With a 3.5 game lead over WMU for 2nd place, I would have to think that a top 2 seed is almost a lock for the MAC Tourney.

Hmmmm, I know Kent has had a REALLY down year so far, but there is still a part of me that would rather play WMU in a semi-final instead of the Flashes.

I'm with you on that.  I'd even throw EMU ahead of WMU on the teams I'd least like to face.

Kent State seems to be playing better lately.  They have a lot of talent.  I've been saying all season long that if they gel, they could be a legitimate threat against Akron and/or Ohio in the tournament.

So, Ohio needs to come to play this Saturday!!

I agree Jeff.  I maintain they have the 3rd best talent in the league.  I think it really comes down to how Randall Holt plays.  If he has a good game, they are a tough out. I'd like to see them finish 4 or 5 and make Akron beat them in the semis.

I'm sure the seedings will change 50 more times between now and then, but I'm glad the MAC Tournament doesn't start Monday.  Based on the seedings listed above and assuming I read it correct, OHIO, WMU and Kent State all on the same side of the bracket with Akron getting a cake walk.

When I see the final tournament bracket, the first thing I'll look for is if we're on the other side of Kent State.  Don't care if that means were #1 or #2, I just don't want to play them again and want to see Kent vs Akron in the semis.

Also, I'm sure it's been listed numerous times, but could someone remind me again what the tie breaker is if Ohio and Akron end the regular season both with one loss to one another?

That would come down to a coin flip as the tiebreaker.

Of course, Ohio would only play one...either WMU or Kent.  They would play each other for opportunity to play us.  Kent would be playing 3rd game in 4 nights in above scenario if they survived to semi's.  If we finish 2nd, then we should have tougher road and Akron the easier.

I think WMU's pretty much a lock for #3 and actually think Kent and EMU will slot into #4/#5 to balance bracket because Buffalo has much tougher schedule and may drop 3 of their last 4 to Akron, Ohio and at Kent.. they may lose all four with last one at BG.

Is it time to start to discussing the awkward and probable scenario in which Western Michigan grabs the #3 seed (a near certainty at this point) while Kent grabs the #4 or #5 seed (they aren't there yet, but are playing much better and have 3 of 4 games in which they'll be highly favored)...And suddenly, Akron and Ohio are preferring the 2 seed over the 1 seed?

Here's how I see the final standings:
1.  Akron
2.  Ohio
3.  WMU
4.  Kent St.
5. EMU
6. BGSU
7. Buffalo

In this scenario I prefer the #2 seed.  Hope we beat Akron at home and lose the coin flip personally.  Just my opinion.

After tonight's win, looks like the path to the semifinal bye is now as simple as not losing out.

Obviously we know what has to happen for a shot at #1.
