No class.  Particularly surprised in one former wig-wearing Ozoner who frequents the Akron and Miami sites as a sort of "man of reason."  Just not funny.

You think we should show respect to a young man that has screamed "F*** Y**!" to the Ozone, to his coach, to his teammates, to opponents?   We should show respect to a kid that just received a kilo of pot via mail?   If we were mocking an injury (or a health condition ala Kretzer) it's one thing but this kid made his own bed.  He's not a victim.

The internet is a wonderful place where people can act out how they want to be perceived as the moral authority, then return to living their real life with much lower standards.

Honestly, have the responses been that bad?

Sure, people have been dropping puns like it is going out of style but the relative tone of these posts has been respectful.

Plus, this is a message board, not a town hall meeting. While you always strive to keep it classy, this is not a discussion about a serious sociological issue. It's a discussion about someone mailing 5 pounds of weed to their house.

To be honest with you, I thought the Akron fans have been a lot more vitriolic on their messageboard and have posted worse than anything seen here. IMHO.

You're not kidding. I made my way over there out of curiosity and the stuff they're throwing around is just delusional.

I thought a majority of them would be wildly disappointed...i.e. can't believe how poorly this reflects on the university. Instead, they're debating the intricacies of conspiracy theories. Certainly looks bad to any outsiders taking a temperature of the fan base.

I legitimately feel bad for them.....well more so for the team given some of their bizarre fan behavior.  They were having a great season and, if they had won the MAC, certainly had a team that could make a run in the NCAA tourney.

Now they've lost an important player (and team leader) at a position where they have no clear reliable second option. Guess we'll see how they rally but on the heels of senior night, certainly a blow to the team.

Yeah, but put the shoe on the other foot and people here would be going ape.  I am recalling some of the posts when a fist of a certain football player met the face of a horse uptown.

Glass houses people, we have had our own share of issues over the years, to gloat at someone else's problems is not very classy.

I'm guessing others who refer to themselves as "MAC basketball writer" aren't trading seventh-grade mary jane jokes on fan websites.

Let me just make sure that I have this straight... Puns on a message board about a player on a rival who was *distributing* (not even smoking, but distributing) drugs, and the morality police come out.

Yet, placing ads in newspapers complaining about and calling out your own administration, team, coaches... that's the picture of class?

Me thinks the poster who made the "glass houses" comment doesn't know how right they are.

...or calling for kids to get kicked out of school after an arrest before a trial or even an indictment has been filed.   Which is worse, condemning a kid before you have any facts or posting puns?   But hey, at least you can fire up your righteous indignation.

If you click on the thread that Mike Coleman posted, SBH started a thread lambasting one of our football players for getting arrested and calling for him to get kicked out of school.   Hypocrite much?

My great uncle died of a pun.

They told him the elevator was out of order and he decided to give it a stern talking to. He got the shaft.

Come on man.  Never lose your sense of humor.  I'm actually not happy Abreu got busted.  The MAC needs all the good players and teams it can get.  But, some of the posts are pretty darn funny and clever over on the other thread.
