I am inserting the biggest eye roll in human history. An alum comes here asking for help to build a team and all you provide is negativity? Get a life.
He's the one that needs to get a life, in the sense that he's completely out of touch with much of the fan base. I'd bet he's one of those who roots for the Buckeyes on fall Saturdays and could care less about the Real OHIO's football fortunes!
There's so much to unpack in such a small (in many ways) response. First, the argument that someone who says 'Roll Bobbies' sounds childish is really negated by an elementary school retort of 'He...needs to get a life' and is incredibly immature. Secondly, please do not suppose that you speak for the fanbase of OHIO as a whole and that you get to decide who is completely out of touch. That's quite narcissistic (but that seems to be par for the course with your posts). Finally, it's *couldn't* care less.
I was told to "get a life" by another poster, so I just childishly responded in kind, which I suppose is kind of childish, so you have a point. There are many others on here who agree with me both on the "Roll Bobbies" business and the use of "Ohio U" in an athletic context. Perhaps, they don't care to get involved in this childish discussion, and I don't blame them. I didn't say mine was the only point of view, but I did feel that using "Roll Bobbies" and "Ohio U" in the same post was something that should not go unpunished. ;-)
There were several posters that flat out dismissed the original post so if you felt I was specifically calling you out then maybe that's guilt you're feeling?

I generally agree with a lot of your takes but I feel this was the wrong thread to "punish" an alumni who is taking it upon themselves to create something cool out of love for the university. Maybe save it for another thread?

Now tell us a story about how some random person you came across on campus in the 1960s had a lackluster quote about what to call Ohio and what not to call Ohio.
No, but I can tell you what Vern Alden said. [The guy wasn't wrong about everything.]

You have a point. I kind of acted viscerally. Maybe should have held my fire.

I wasn't providing negativity. I actually responded with a full list of names and suggestions, by year, with reasons.

I also gave a very real response about getting rid of a ridiculous, and frankly embarrassing hashtag as means of constructive criticism.

Unless you enjoy being embarrassed and copying others? Maybe we can start a "Geaux Bobbies, THE Ohio University" slogan. Or we can pass out binkies and blankies for the student support section.

I'm trying to help by avoiding that.

New time out entertainment. Select a student from the stands wearing a pink Roll Bobbies onesie who has to ride a tricycle around the paint using only their knees to steer because they'll have a stuffed "Bobby" in one hand and have to suck their other thumb.

Who doesn't want to stand up and cheer proudly for that?!

Not trying to be that guy....but #RollBobbies is truly one of the dumbest things associated with Ohio athletics. The first time I ever recall seeing it was when The Whiz posted his announcement he was coming to Ohio last year with a #RollBobbies. I'll end my comment there.

Really? How about "Tailgreat" Park? Also, did you forget about the attempt to give the Convo a nickname in the 90s? Palace of Malice?

Palace of Malice?? Seriously? I don't recall that one.

Selective memory, perhaps.

I had not heard this name in over a quarter of a century but I can confirm this as I was a student at the time. I think the sportswriters at The Post held a campus wide contest to give the Convo a nickname and "Palace of Malice" was voted the winner. If I recall the name was not used much even by the Post and was quickly forgotten. I doubt there are many that even remember this at all.

I think that the most frequently submitted student entry for the nickname was "Bob" which in the mid-nineties was something of a social gag meme as they existed at the time for something having the most generic name possible.

Feels like the actual value of Bobcat Attack would be to workshop what the best catchphrase would be for OHIO athletics. Instead of admiring the problem of #RollBobbies, it would be better to offer solutions. Maybe #RufusRoll (though that still plays into the Roll Tide setup) or #LynxUp.

Hey, maybe you've been right about Gabe all along! ;-)

Seriously, I do remember, Palace of Malice. Would not mind seeing that come back, but I also like Russell's Roundhouse on Richland. They can co-exist.

But, "Roll Bobbies" reminds me of either trying to mug a London cop, or a bunch of angry country women coming after Rufus with rolling pins. Ir's got to go!

I was also a student at the time of the Post's contest and I vaguely remember that when "Palace of Malice" was announced that we started chanting "We want Bob"

I also think Roll Bobbies is juvenile and pointless. But then again, so am I. Far more important things to concern myself with when it comes to my alma mater.

"BOB" won that election, dammit, and "Palace of Malace" is not my catchphrase.

The election was rigged. Anyone know a good lawyer I can hire to help prove this?
More importantly, does Athens have a Four Seasons for our press conference?

Neither Ohio 1804 nor Mid-American Unity are in. Looks like only Buffalo representing the MAC.

That's too bad. I honestly did not know there was some sort of play-in? How do they determine who gets in? Eye test? I guess it makes sense. Unfortunate, we couldn't make it in over a team called FRIDAY BEERS.
