Jon Smith leaving before CIT = Quitter

JC leaving after two years to go from rich to super rich = doing what's best for his family

Why is it that our expectations of amateur athletes are so radically different than our expectations of their well paid overlords?

I tend to think they're both quitters. Maybe that just makes me old and cynical...

I'll say it again.

"Withdrawal in disgust is not the same as apathy."

Jon Smith proved himself too reliable and did too much to just quit for no reason.

I disagree. Quitting to prove a point still hurts your teammates. Forget about JC, but you owe it to your teammates/friends/brothers to be there to the end.

This is all becoming clear. Christian never wanted to be here. It was all about getting away from TCU unscathed and into a better job than both TCU and Ohio. It's one thing that Jon Smith comes out with these statements. It's another when Setty tweets "blessing in disguise." There's something going on in that locker room that just hasn't been right.

Now I'm beginning to think the 2012-2013 team of Cooper, Offutt, Baltic and Keely, whom most people lambaste for not showing up in Denver in the NIT, were really just playing with what they had to work with. That's pretty impressive to me the more I look at it.

The senior year Cooper team never paid attention to Christian. He never earned their respect from day one. Go back and look at the Memphis game..I was there. They flat out didn't want to play for him that night. Down right embarrassing.
Schaus whiffed on this one big time.

That team had outspoken leaders too Cooper and Walt. This years team had to rely on JC and I've watched his sideline demeanor it doesnt show that he had a great relationship with his players. Groce on the other hand was/is a master motivator and when he tore into the kids he also celebrated their success.

This is flat-out untrue.

This is not remotely the same thing, but remember when Bert ran away from the program, O'Shea quit, and Groce got hired? Bert was all, "Oh crap, I want to come back now."

I imagine Jon would not have quit on Phillips.

Had to dig to find this thread but I actually ran into Jon about a month or two ago. He's doing great and still looks the same. Was really nice sitting down and catching up with him.
