Katie would be a novelty...but I don't think we want to go down the new head coach route with the current state of the program. We need more seasoned coach, IMO.

Spot on. Bringing in a coach with no college coaching experience and/or head coaching experience would not be a good idea for a program looking for a turnaround. The application process for the job is open until March 17.

Get a Big Ten assistant.

Not out of the question by any means - Debbie Black from Ohio State comes to mind (she's a great assistant under Foster but I doubt she would leave what she has there to come to a program in shambles at Ohio) but I don't think a Big Ten assistant will be getting the job. Just doubtful in my opinion.

If our A.D. can do half as well as he did when he went looking to replace J.G., we will be golden ! Proven winner, first class coach who knows exactly what it takes to be a consistent winner Go find that coach who can put some life back in our women's program !
Who hired Randall?

Who hired Randall?

it was indeed Schaus at the beginning of his tenure at Ohio U.

Schaus's record is pretty awful good.  That every hire of his has not worke out is hardly reason to carp.

Don't decide who you want based on 'false' criteria.  Just because someone has never been a coach or head coach before should not disqualify them.  Everyone who is one now once was not one.  Don't eliminate a world of potentially fine candidates. Rather, do the best possible job of screening/examining in order to find a someone who's most likely to be an ace.

I went to high school with Tamika Raymond.  She has been an assistant coach at Kansas and Ohio State.  She is also a high school legend in Ohio.  I think she would bring instant credibility to Ohio with in state recruits.

I read a previous comment about our program being  "a shambles."  It is, but going forward that's not necessarily a bad thing.  The new coach, whoever it is, will have pretty much a blank slate to work with.  Nowhere to go but up...

I did not recognize the name Tamika Raymond, but checked around and found that's the married name for Tamika Williams from the Dayton area, an All America at UCONN.

never said otherwise. This program is in a bad state - experience is important here....but certainly not counting out an assistant who has had several years of experience under a HC.

It's currently in bad shape, however, it can be turned around. Not sure if you've made it to any women's games of late, but man is it painful to watch...anyone will tell you that. This can be turned around, it will take time. Randall left the program in the state it's in, and the new coach will have to work with what he/she has. It can be done.

Thanks for the link to Packard. She came on after Rollers last full season was 24-7 win an interim coach the following season. Roller had several WNIT appearances while BG ruled the conference on the girls side. Packard's record was worse than I thought.

Packard had a 58-68 overall record, and a 29-37 Mid-American Conference mark, in four seasons at Ball State. She had three years remaining on her contract with an annual base salary of $150,000.

Sallee came on to replace Packard who left early with 3 years on her contract (thank goodness) and has the girls in the #2 seed at the Q in his first year in Muncie. I think you are right. With Curt Miller gone at BG I think the right hire would have a great situation to walk into and turn the tide. OHIO girls hoops are really strong at the HS level. Maybe a personwith local ties would be a good hire. Add someone as an asst with ties to Chicago or similar and steal couple out of Marshall, Fenwick or simialr and you are right back in the hunt.

Not to digress but in looking at BSU heads I noticed Marsha Reall was the coach at BSU for a year, went to HC at Purdue for a year and then ended up at OHIO? My gramps was pretty close to her through Coach Pritchard who coached in Lima IIRC. Had no Idea there was a BSU connection.

Old coaches ....where do they end up?....looks like Coach Reall found another vocation

I'm going out on a limb and guessing we'll know who the new coach is within a week or so. The application process is open until March 17. Shouldn't be long after that we'll know.
