The search begins for the new Ohio Women's Basketball Coach. Anyone have any ideas on who they think would be a good fit for the program? I have some ideas, but wanted to see what you all thought.

She just finished up her first season at VCU.. 11-19 record, lost in opening round of Atlantic 10 tournament to Duquesne.. She had a great career at Ohio. If she hadn't just finished her first year at VCU, I could see her being a possible option. Just my opinion, though..

Bob Boldon. Turned Youngstown State around in 2 years (granted he inherited the Horizon's POY). Ohio native, vastly underpaid right now.

My stretch candidate is Caroline Mast, but that should have happened when Crawley left and won't happen now.

She's been mentioned several times. I'm not sure she would be interested in the job or would be interested in relocating. No college coaching experience at all as far as I know. I'd like to see someone with head coaching experience take this job. Randall had none.

But to clarify that, I think she would be a good candidate. Outstanding career at Ohio and points leader. This will be interesting to watch as it's playing out.

I was going to throw out Kelly Packard who resigned from Ball State in 2012 because I remember it was her team that beat Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament, but it looks like their program went downhill in the following years. bornacatfan, what happened with her? Was that a case of winning with the previous regime's players?

Not her team. She was the Coach but that was Tracy Roller's team. Tracy built on Brenda Frease's program and put that run together. I was just wondering the other day where Packard got to.....

BSU had an unspoken women coaching women policy for a number of years (save for volleyball where the mens volleyball program supplies all the coaches round here) and got drilled through ethel gregory and co till Frease and Roller got here.

Now they have a new guy coaching them and have the 2 seed in the MAC tourney. and are bought in and playing well.

I hope we consider the best possible candidate for the job, male female black white yellow brown gay straight or any other label....just win baby. Get good kids , coach em up and bring OHIO back.

Packard resigned from BSU after the 2012 season. Here's the link: http://www.thestarpress.com/article/20120321/SPORTS20/120... type="_moz" />
I know it was already mentioned, just thought I'd add the link for people to read.

If our A.D. can do half as well as he did when he went looking to replace J.G., we will be golden !  Proven winner, first class coach who knows exactly what it takes to be a consistent winner  Go find that coach who can put some life back in our women's program !

With the men's team we decided to go with someone we knew would have success in the MAC.  Let's go brinkg back Brenda Frese.

Longshot/stretch:  There's a 38-year-old lady from Logan living up in Upper Arlington who has a pretty good resume, except for the lack of coaching experience. I think her younger brother attended Ohio.  Of course, there's probably at least 1 person on this board who believes that since she went to The Ohio State University, Katie Smith is disqualified.

Carolyn Peck. ESPN is a good gig; but, most good coaches want to coach. Not just talk about the game/players.

Katie's parents are Ohio grads and active Ohio fans.  Could do worse, but the lack of coaching experience would make it a real risky adventure.

Worth a call, I suppose. But if she's really interested in getting back into coaching, I'm sure there are bigger programs that would be interested in her.

Hey, even if she's not interested, I think Peck is pretty tuned into the coaching scene...could be a good resource, point our search in the right direction.

Would LOVE to see Katie get the chance even without the experience. Is she interested in coaching? The timing is probably good , I think she just signed another contract to play another year?......she has to be getting near 40 I would think. I was surprised to hear a story  about a new contract  fairly recently.... pretty amazing

Katie would be a novelty...but I don't think we want to go down the new head coach route with the current state of the program. We need more seasoned coach, IMO.

She's still playing in the WNBA and has no intentions of coaching at this point. She signed a contract with the New York Liberty 2 weeks ago: http://seattletimes.com/html/storm/2020433563_storm26.htm...

True, but like I said, doubt she has any intentions of coaching and she is still in playing basketball mode. Signed with the NY Liberty two weeks ago.

Exactly. Katie Smith and/'or Peck would get bigger gigs than a MAC school if interested in coaching. Katie's still playing in the WNBA and Peck, if interested in coaching again, would go to a school in a bigger conference, without a doubt.
